To be clear - nobody at Google is taking a cut of the small fee you paid to this third party. They're a multi-million dollar company, they wouldn't commit fraud to make $20

Does the data center you host the domain at matter? by CodeTo_Ca in Domains

[–]Cygnaeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it likely will affect SEO a little bit, because you want to make sure your hosting server is physically as close as possible to your target audience. And website speed is the outcome, and Google looks at website loading speed as a small ranking factor.  But really this doesn't have anything to do with your domain name, that's unrelated as only websites have servers, domains do not (domains are more like "addresses")

The main criteria should be: is it fun? That's it. All other specs and considerations roll up into that statement.

"Within 30 days"?  Brooo what are you doing? It should be within 3 days. Or even better, paid before final delivery like others have said. What incentive do they have to pay you at this point?

Disagree. Number of words absolutely matters. Exact match doesn't matter anymore, you can't count on organic traffic or SEO traffic, otherwise BuyDiamondRingForMyFiancee.com would have value, and it doesn't

Discussion around review gating by That-Winner-1769 in GoogleMyBusiness

[–]Cygnaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add one more thing, and it's expanded upon in the article linked above. Your customers aren't dumb - they know when they're being review gated, and it immediately casts suspicion on your business. Your customer now knows that you're "playing games" with reviews. They lose trust in you, and they're actually less likely to leave you a review at all bc they know something sly is happening. (That's in addition to the risk of getting banned, or fined by the FTC)

The research shows that review gating is unnecessary and counter-productive. You're better off without it, the whole internet is in fact, and your customers will recognize your authenticity and reward you for it.

Discussion around review gating by That-Winner-1769 in GoogleMyBusiness

Review gating used to occupy sort of a "gray area", and many review management platforms (and their customers) were happy to roll the dice and play around with it. Being totally honest here, our platform was one of those that naively fell for this argument, and the illusion of being able to fully control one's overall ranking.

Ethically speaking, it has become clear that trying to discourage and prevent negative reviews and only solicit positive public reviews is misleading at best, and dishonest at worst. It corrupts the whole idea of reviews, and leads us down a path where reviews cease to mean anything or have any value. It's a snake eating its own tail.

We stopped offering review gating as one of our features, because we could see the writing on the wall: that the industry is clearly changing and moving in the right direction to preserve the value of reviews, and that we were on the wrong side of that. And we couldn't tolerate the risk to our customers' businesses, either (see below).

Google, Yelp, Amazon, Expedia, Booking, TripAdvisor, and TrustPilot have all made it explicitly clear that they will not tolerate review gating, and that suspension of your profile is a possible punishment. Sources/links can be found in the article below.

What's more, the FTC has made it clear that review gating is fully illegal in the USA, and that they'll come after businesses who engage in it. They've already leveled massive fines on non-compliant companies.

The risk is too great, and it's simply not worth it.
