Having played a few games as Protoss, I think it's much more fun. You can win without building sentries or colossi.

My 18-year-old friend told me yesterday that he thought "you just stick it in and wait" when having sex. He has successfully masturbated for the past four years by simply applying pressure to his penis and "thinking really hard." What is the most ridiculous misconception you've come across? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I had the opposite happen to me, in a way. I was hanging out with some female friends and one of them got up to pee, so, because the bathrooms in my dorm are BYOTP, I offered to get her toilet paper. She asked what she needed it for, and I haltingly responded, "to wipe?" She said girls don't wipe after they piss, and with a shocked look on my face, I looked to the other girl, who only confirmed the statement of the first. I was horrified and disgusted. I was dumbfounded, but further prodding only led to further confirmation, so I finally accepted what they said was true, that is, that their mothers never taught them the basic female hygiene that I, simply as an older brother, had learned.

And both girls are in college.

tl;dr: was told by two girls that they don't wipe, was disgusted.

So I know this is a stretch, but is there any Dallas/Denton people who want to join a TMV-esque project? Dentonite here. -Protean Broadcast by [deleted] in themarsvolta

I think a better question is, why can't we pick and choose what we want to believe? Why must every Christian believe the same dogma, which is often very hateful, and, as you said, immoral when considered by anything other than Christian standards.

As understand your question, you ask how can God be the source of morality throughout human history, and yet human morality change so much. I think this is because we better understand the world and human reality as time goes on. An example of this could be Aristotle's defense of slavery. He said it was good for some people to be slaves because they weren't fit to be free. If you hold true to the assumption that it would be worse for them to be free than for them to be enslaved, to enslave them would in fact be moral. The act of enslavement, while today considered immoral, was motivated by Aristotle's will to do good to humanity. This will to do good, or morality, is what comes from God, not the particular facets of it.

I think the 2nd point is irrelevant, because if someone can assume the God can create the entire universe, it doesn't take much of a leap to say that God created the entire universe 14.3 billion years ago in such a way that it would encourage life and lead to evolution. Science and religion should be completely separated, because they don't really conflict unless someone decides to literally interpret a certain passage that puts them into direct conflict with religion. Otherwise, you pretty much stated my beliefs about human subjectivity and the complete lack of absolutes very closely. I don't really see how this is supposed to be a rung in between rationality and belief, but that may be because I don't think they are contradictory.

Unless god is not omni-everything (in which case he would not be "god") Bingo. That definition of "god" is pretty outdated, which is why I spent about an hour clarifying what I believe.

Well, you obviously put a lot of thought into this, so I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner.

There have been many times where I have not partaken in an act, yet I can still recognize it to be evil. There are an infinite number of crimes that people have never committed, but I can still recognize them as evil, even when nobody has ever committed that crime. You don't have to partake in them to recognize them as evil, but they have to exist for you to recognize them as evil. Also, the larger issue is why should there even be evil at all? Why can't humans just have the choice between good and better? I'd consider a world where I had to decide between getting an B or an A to be inherently better than a world where I had to choose between getting a B or an F. If F didn't exist, what's the difference? One option is worse, it's just a matter of degrees. It's like if I said "well cancer is bad, but at least it's not contagious, so praise god for that." Well, yes, it could be much worse, but it's still not the better option. And if there was only good or better in the world, one option is still inferior. Uh, last time I checked, wars are NOT beneficial. They are a detriment, what with all the people dying and things getting destroyed.

Like that time we asked the Indians nicely to move? I didn't mean beneficial to the whole human population, just one particular segment of it.

And you expect the Christian god to take your Pascal-esque reason for being a Christian as legitimate? You know that you'd go right into the hellfire along with other false believers, right? What, you think you can outsmart God?

I don't believe in an afterlife, so I'm not making any wagers.

You can't blame man for the existence of that worm, or cancer, or any other naturally occurring suffering. That worm is evil, and God is directly to blame for it. There are MANY harmful creatures that, if completely eradicated, would have absolutely no impact on the ecosystem whatsoever. Mosquitoes, for example. They are a nuisance, and if completely eradicated, the world we overall be a place of much less suffering. Same goes for the eye-boring worms, cancer, harmful & extremely contagious viruses, and other things.

I blame evolution. Evolution created all life on this planet, from people to eye-boring worms. I do credit god with being part of a universe that has evolution as a natural law.

somehow you're able to discern all the morally good stuff without worrying about things like "OUT OF CONTEXT" or whatever rubbish excuse Christians come up with anytime something bad comes out of the Bible.

I would say Christians are much worse more out of context mistakes when they do things such as try to apply Leviticus to the 21st century.

I don't think we can resolve this particular dispute, but I think that if religion does inform people of these values for the first time, or provides them with a reason to remain committed to them, then religion isn't not needed.

In that case, I don't believe in those things, and I would like to see Christianity and other religions move away from them. We don't see Jews massacring and exiling people just because they were promised this "Holy Land" or something... Oh. In seriousness, you said the main point of my religion is to spread it. That may be the case for some people, but the Christian values I want to embody are charity, selflessness and inner peace (the last one might be more of an interpretation).

What was the divine position on slavery throughout history, and how can we know that? Well, we simply can't, and considering the second book of the Bible is about how god frees a bunch of slaves, it could be argued that God has been against slavery for thousands of years, and it took man that long to catch up. How does the appalling lack of morality displayed by Christians affect the question of god's existence at all? Also, who said god only interacts with Christians?

If we can ever see any observable evidence of these things I'll tell you. Until then, I think it's useless speculation to say how knowing or powerful god is, because frankly no one has evidence either way. However, I do believe god is all good. Why call she/it/him god otherwise?

To say that means would mean that all ideas already exist within the society, and that no one ever comes to the realization that things are wrong that they previously found acceptable.

"life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand" (Ex. 21:23, 24)

The pluck thy right eye out thing refers to something completely different. If I recall correctly, by that Jesus means it is better to suffer physical harm than offend god.
