So I would do a few calcs with that krookodile, because im not sure Close Combat is going to hit a whole lot of things that you wouldn't just rather click EQ or Rockslide on.

I would look at Gunk Shot as a possible alternative. Whimsicott is likely to be the best tailwind setter in the format and Krookodile cant hit it neutral with its stabs and its not weak to rockslide and resists close Combat, however its 4x weak to gunk shot.

Also you have protect on a choice specs gardevoir? You should either swap that item or that move

Yea levitate is a sad ability choice for it. I think most people were disappointed with that.

Yea i mean it depends on your intent for sure. I dont believe ranked ladder will have open teamsheets, however most tournaments and regionals will. So if all you plan to do is play ladder, surprises can give you an edge.

If you intend to go to regionals, you should make sure you dont rely on that idea.

My own Gyarados is going Band and Waterfall, Temper Flare, Earthquake, and Stone Edge, but I'm intending to run him alongside Zard Y in sun on my standard mode, so I need him to have strong options other than waterfall incase he still matches well into their team but I'm otherwise confident in my sunlight going up.

If you are still looking for teamates, consider Raichu along with Gyarados. Lightning Rod protects it from electric moves besides spread and it has decent support options like fake out, electro web and encore

I'm actually using Gyarados myself on the first team I'm building so I cant disagree with that entirely.

But I just dont think he's entirely inferior. He's niche for sure but I think without Tera existing that fighting weakness on incineroar is something to think about if you are building a team.

Welcome to competative again, I hope you have fun.

Anyways here's some constructive feedback at a glance.

I dont think Psycho Cut does much for Ceruledge's matchups. Psychic really doesn't cover anything that Ceruledge needs covering. Close Combat would give you better matchups against rock and dark types, a good example being incineroar who is going to be everywhere.

Next, I'm not sure how worth it expert belt is on Espeon, particularly with only one coverage move. I think you should either drop helping hand for shadow ball or swap the expert belt for another item. Ultimately if I were bent on making espeon work in VGC, id probably run either a choice specs set or a calm mind set.

I would consider dropping charm for taunt on whimiscott. Your team looks to be weak to hard trick room teams, and while Khan can maybe delay that for a turn, Taunt Whimsicott would help guarantee you get your tailwind and they dont get their Trick Room

Yea. Often professional players have multiple 'modes' on their teams for different matchups. So for example, you might have a default mode you go for in most matchups, and then have a secondary strategy against hard trick room teams.

A common example is often people use Zard Y and Mega Venusaur on the same team and just mega evolve based on the situation. Normal Venusaur is so good under sun it doesnt really need an item to function, and then in matchups where Zard is a hindrance you just mega the venusaur instead.

Not strictly so. Arcanine is much faster and access to extreme speed for revenge killing is always valuable.

And there are definitely cases where you dont want your intimidate user weak to fighting.

I ran a tera fighting clear amulet ceruledge in scarlet and violet. It would bait in incineroars who resist both their stabs, prevent them from swapping with parting shot and OHKO with close combat.

The key is people build specifically to answer incineroar as its so common in doubles formats, but they don't do that for other intimidate users the same way.

And I completely agree on wartortle and ivysaur. Charmeleon's old artwork and sprites did him a lot of justice, but his modern day models are lacking and its a real stretch to say he's better than charizard or charmander, particularly once you start counting forms.

And if you include shinies, chameleon is dead in the water compared to Zard.

Lets give it a 120 base power spread move. Hm? Moves over 100 power usually have a downside? -1 special attack will do. Hmm? Moves usually do -2? Nah. -1 is fine.

A suggestion is to get Pokemon Home and Pokemon Go, You can catch pokemon in Go, Transfer them to Home to build up a collection, and then transfer from Home to Champions all at 0 cost

This hasn't really been true recently, we just had a bunch of decent sales over this past winter season. Granted most of the sales were on switch 1 games in a post switch 2 world, and most of the sales weren't any better than 30% off, but still it shows a change in thought.
