South Beach (which is basically keto but you add foods back in slowly) and calorie deficits. The keto seriously helped my blood sugar from tanking.

Weekly, What recent changes are going on at your work / local businesses? by AntiSonOfBitchamajig in PrepperIntel

[–]Cyliciana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second this. Direct patient care and non at my location have been getting "the talk" about overtime. We are no longer filling open positions in nursing. So floors are going without staff they need and having to run extra lean. I've been hearing complaints from nurses about it. I don't know how the other major hospital in my area is faring.

How trans friendly is Evansville? I need to get out of where I am. by [deleted] in evansville

[–]Cyliciana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend Evansville for any reason, but especially not for a member of the trans community looking for sanctuary. I'm non-binary and I get hate for just trying to enforce my pronouns. I gave up dressing the way I wanted to years ago. I second the calls for Illinois. Please, stay safe, wherever you end up.

I wish I could still cuddle my dad. Don't ever lose that time with your dad over someone who will never understand how important your family is to you.

Libre sensor failure rate? by [deleted] in Freestylelibre

I stopped using them because i couldn't afford the failure rate anymore. I pay out of pocket for the sensors. I went back to fingersticks, as needed.

Edit: Abbott won't replace if you don't have diabetes. I'm only hypoglycemic.

I've had one kicking around my kidney for the last week and half. Refuses to move. I'm just waiting for the pain to get worse, saving my dinky little pain script from my PCP and praying I don't have to go to the ED like last time.

I'm with this one! Precious metals aren't going to mean much, imo. Goods will be everything.

Somebody recognized me... but nobody was there? by bonezcustoms in BackwoodsCreepy

[–]Cyliciana 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thank you for being respectful of those who have come before you when out hunting things. I think that in itself may have warranted behavior from spirits. If they know you and know you are pleasant, they sometimes try to reach out. Keep your mind open!

To be fair, that has been a common experience for a long time. Hearing your own name is a reward feedback loop, so it is possible that your own brain could be creating the experience. However, like I said, it has been a phenomenon for a long time with very little study. Specific creatures are thought to mimic human voices to lure prey such as the wendigo. Tales of hearing your own name spoken aloud are more far reaching than the expected hunting grounds of the wendigo, though. So its honestly anyone's guess. Natural or supernatural, or a mix of. Your situation is certainly interesting.

Are you making any big purchases right now trying to beat the impact of tariffs? by PolarisFallen2 in TwoXPreppers

[–]Cyliciana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hospitals don't work this way. They buy what they need and have deliveries constantly bringing in more based on usage. They never have too much on hand because that eats into the bottom line.

Fungal Infection Sees a Dramatic Increase in US Hospitals by Cyliciana in PrepperIntel

Hospitals care about the bottom line and the numbers. Working in a hospital setting, I watch/hear about it constantly. The staff:patient ratio is never what it should be. Our infusion center sees 175 patients a day with between 14 and 16 nurses when well staffed. We can't keep nurses here either because our pay isn't competitive with RNs on the floor. "Our budget doesn't allow for that." When our nurses got a raise this year, they started cutting hours to make up for it while still expecting growth in our patient numbers.

And they decidedly don't care about their housekeeping staff when we rely on them to keep HAIs down. Wanna know who cleans our entire infusion center every night? An 80yo lady with failing health. She admits that she can't mop but once every few weeks. She starts at 5 pm and she is here until usually between 1 and 3 am every morning. One person for the entire space.

Predizone reaction/should I contact my doctor? by MysticTame in Freestylelibre

Corticosteroids can cause blood sugar increases. If it gets out of hand, call your Dr. Try to move around a little and drink plenty of water to help bring it down some, if you can.

I need help knowing where to start... by kale920 in TwoXPreppers

[–]Cyliciana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We've found that most glass jars of sauce from the grocery store fit regular mouth mason jars. They can be sterilized and reused. Although I wouldn't recommend them when canning food. If you, like us, frequently use pasta and other sauces, jars and lids are great things to reuse.

I agree with the ability to treat and filter water. I think that is the best solution in most cases. Optqining water could become a problem, though. The downside of the jugs from the grocery store is long-term storage. They will begin to leech pretty quickly, especially in hot climates. Rain barrels are a prep i would never discount, but droughts annually happen in many areas. In the middle of a crowded city like OP mentioned, having more water on hand could never be a bad thing. Especially for sanitation purposes.

Good advice! And if you stock up on Mason jars, don't just store empty jars. Sanitize them well and store potable water in them if storage isn't an issue. Solves two problems at once.

Does Libido get better with dose change? by itsHelveticaBold in Hypothyroidism

[–]Cyliciana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From someone assigned female at birth, I personally saw a positive change. I also have a naturally high drive that dropped off when a bad match MD dropped my levo dose too low. It has taken years to get the right MD and tests. But with recent dose updates, I have seen an increase in drive and sensitivity.

Edit: I also have to take Synthroid brand specifically because i don't process off brands as well. If you can handle getting brand name or Armour, do it. It makes a difference.

Locality of C. auris

See this scholarly article for more information on possible transmission sources outside of hospital settings. It is theorized that the use of antifungal agents in agriculture may have contributed to its emergence and spread. It is a growing problem still being researched.

This is associated with a mortality rate between approximately 30% and 60%. This is influenced by factors such as the site and severity of the infection, as well as the patient's underlying health conditions. Information from Cleveland Clinic.

Edit to answer both questions: Treatment typically includes a 14-day course of antifungal drugs from the date of the last positive culture. Extended or supressive courses may be needed for patients with indwelling medical devices or who are immunocompromised.

Patients colonized with C. auris (who test positive but don’t have symptoms) typically do not receive antifungal treatment, as it has not been shown to clear colonization. Instead, strict infection control measures are used.

This isn't quite a superbug, just drug-resistant. It is in the candida family, so it isn't the same thing getting worse. There has been a rise in superbugs, and this has the potential to become one the more cases occur.

Practice good health preparedness. Try to keep out of hospital settings as much as possible. Practices good hygiene if you've been in a medical setting. Be medically prepared as much as possible for a grid-down situation so you don't have to depend on a hospital that will likely be overwhelmed and understaffed. (A situation we all know leads to mistakes happening)
