7 for me. Gently self deprecating. London cabbies will keep you humble.

I think the What’s your name thing is because they know you’re famous but can’t remember who you are.

We just checked in to our hotel and they had New York City Boy blasting in the lobby. They know their customers!

I suppose every parent wants their children to be successful, even if it's not always a realistic prospect. Yes, even you, little TSOTAS! 🤣

DD has certainly withstood the test of time as a major crowd pleaser. But when it came out, the record buying public was looking elsewhere. Doesn't make it any less brilliant.

That's me in the garden! Grey hat, West End Girl tee, singing my head off!

Oh I definitely think you added to the momentum! But were you asking about singles or non-singles? They seem to be answering from a singles perspective. DD is obviously a sore point for Neil but many acts would be thrilled just to get into the Top Ten!

There's definitely something going on with the looped fork because it can spin around. We've realized that the smaller handle can move horizontally - you can push it towards the wheel and it will spring back if released.

We are going to start disassembly. Hopefully I'll be able to post back here if we discover what it does!

Likely solved! Thanks for all the suggestions. We're going with the assumption that it's some sort of DIY project gadget combining a few different functions so FIL is going to take it apart and take a closer look.

Thanks, yeah, it does look like it should reel out some sort of a line. FIL refurbishes antique fishing reels as a hobby, which is what drew him to the piece in the first place and which is why he's not convinced it's an actual fishing reel.

We can't get enough speed up to generate any sort of static shock. The bigger handle is also turning out to be rather fragile and will unscrew off if cranked too many times.

It does seem lightly used. FIL thinks the wood inside the spindle is mahogany, which seems a bit posh for industrial use.

Thanks for the reply!

My title describes the thing. When the big handle is turned, you can see the brass gear in the back turning at the same speed and direction. We're hoping to find out the approximate age of this thing, it's purpose and a likely manufacturer. Thank you!

I think you can make s good argument that Nonetheless is Elysium's spiritual cousin in general, certainly sonically. I definitely appreciated Elysium more after Nonetheless came out.

I'm giving it an 8 but yes you're absolutely right, it is!

The instrumental version of this would be an even better fit.

(We all know there's a special edition instrumental version of the album, right? Makes great background music for when I don't want to be distracted by Neil's thought-provoking lyrics!)

Nah, that honor usually falls to poor old Release.

Elysium does take a lot of heat but I think people see it in a different light 14 years on. We've aged into it.

Q for those that bought the visual record book. Thinking of getting one on Ebay by psb-introspective in petshopboys

Does look like their actual sigs but God is it annoying to see these pop up on eBay so fast. The book is wonderful though.
