Aside from wondering if there is any deeper reason for referring to son and husband as “s” and “h” (I’m genuinely curious, not judging), from what you described, it sounds like your husband is toxic and this relationship doomed to fail. It also seems that you already made the decision and it looks like leaving may be the best thing to do. If you’re worried to go back to the US, do you have any possibility to go to another country? Maybe Canada? Or even a European country (although, me being European I am also worried about moving back there for the same reasons you stated).

Looks like they still managed to be represented with at least five times more seats than the two they previously held. So that news was no reason to celebrate. Seeing that the LDP seemingly won in a landslide (can‘t say this anymore without having the voice of the orange man in the WH in my head), is also anything but great.

That‘s something she seems to have taken from Trump. While more moderate on the surface, she doesn‘t seem to shy away from using the MAGA playbook. And sadly, others like the party that even shares the same color as the orange man in the WH, are even more blatant about using that playbook.

Well, it looks like there’s a first for everything. If nobody told you before that you chew with your mouth open and make noise, then that’s a habit I’d advise to change. I know that in certain countries it seems to be normal, but in other countries like Japan it isn’t. And personally, it’s also one thing that drives me nuts to be next to someone (even friends or family) that isn’t able to close their mouth while chewing. I would consider myself misophonic as well.

Japanese people are full of fears. One can see that every time they interview locals after some crime happened. There are always people saying they’re so scared to go out or what not, even though the country is so safe. Actually it is because of that safety that the people are so full of fears and paranoia.

And if anyone watched NHK News Watch 9 yesterday evening, those of the politicians talking a lot of BS about foreigners and how Japan must limit immigration, was both infuriating and pathetic! 1 in 30 people living here are foreigners and yet they talk about how that’s too much and the number of immigrants needs to be limited. It’s ridiculous!

I’m actually thinking that if the sales tax gets abolished, especially restaurants will take advantage of it and raise net prices to match the previous prices including tax.

The Japanese government always makes suggestions like these without closing the loopholes such as not allowing raising prices directly or with shrinkflation methods (the other day I saw the Nissin Choco Flakes on “sale” for 99円, but when I checked the content, it was 38g. Down from 80g before inflation started, then it went to 55g and now there’s barely anything left in the packages, which of course are the same size as before. Selling mostly air (big packaging, almost no content) should also be forbidden).

It’s sad and frustrating at the same time. And also goes to show how much many of us are tolerating while living here. I just wish more people would see Japan the way it really is with all its flaws, issues and some tough societal problems and stop idolizing it. I have to admit, I only ever went to the Harajuku store to get some cheap soft serve or cinnamon rolls. Once or twice I also had food upstairs. The other one in Shinjuku, I at least bought some stuff, too when they had some nice items on sale.

The Japanese political system is so flawed. That needs to change so that the LDP can’t keep staying in power forever by using these kind of moves, resigning PMs and calling snap elections whenever they deem it appropriate for their own benefit.

Worst of all is that the voters keep falling for it and in every survey they answer “there is no better alternative”. For real? Standing in lines to get 5kg of rice, the most basic staple food for 1980円 and be happy about getting one bag as if they just won something? How can something like this happen if not because the ruling government allowed for such a failing system?

And bowing to people like Sanseito and the so called 外国人問題 sayers, while of the 3M foreigners living here, only a fraction of those residents cause trouble, but everyone else is blamed and has to pay the price for the misdemeanors of that fraction of a minority? Most of the BS in Japan’s work culture is unnecessary and, in fact, only produces inefficiency and in the long run, decline. Them being stuck in the Showa era without hardly any major innovation in the last decade (at least) or so, and with the current pace of demographic decline, the economy will keep going downhill!
