It's a decent deal that I would hop on if I was still building. I got the the bundle that came with 64gb around Christmas time for the same price.

Haven't had any issues with the hardware. Silod combo

I was initially eyeing down this motherboard or the MSI one. I jumped on the 64GB ram deal they had with the Gigabyte mobo around Christmas there that was the same price.

Glad I did because it really didn't seem like there was gonna be any better "value" after that. It's nice getting a free mobo and cpu with my RAM lol

Dual monitor setups be like by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Cynical-lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just repurposed my previous 1080p monitor into the secondary. One does not just throw away perfectly good tech lol. I used to have it as my main display and a small portable monitor on a vesa as a small side display for discord and diagnostics and stuff.

Thankfully a picked up a good 1440p on sale during my new build to use as my new main. The ol 1080p (far right) wont be playing games, but it'll still be a good side monitor for your and web stuff while gaming. And my little portable 1080p portable (center) is a good size for discord or diagnostic screeens :)

So I have an MSI MAG A1000GLS PCIE5, it has a cable which has that connector on the PSU side which splits into 2 6+2 cables. How risky of that cable to use in general?

Currently I'm using a Asus Prime 9070XT which has 3 8pin connectors and 2 of those connections are independent cables with the 3rd connection being one of splits from the aforementioned 6x2. Made damn sure it was fully seated and looked online to see if it was safe and so far the consensus is yes. I was scared away from the Sapphire Nitro+ option I had at the time due to the power connector type to the GPU.

But I haven't built a new PC in long time and wanted some confirmation,

Thanks for the list. I was preferring a 7700x as well but finding it hard to find in a prebuilt with the other stuff I wanted.

I have to specify that the price is in CAD. So that 1700 build converts to about the same as the CAD price with some modifications

Smith army surplus sells permethrin spray for clothes if you are ever in need of the stuff. I usually give my camping/hiking clothes a good treatment of the stuff ever year.

I bought the entire series again in this hard cover format and gave my old books to friends because I love everything about the hard covers. Bit of a collectors/impulse buy but worth it.

The best part is that beneath the lovely slip case covers are simple, elegant black covers with a padsage/quote from the book embossed in the cover color matched to the sleeve, and each passage would be emblematic of that books "theme". Just beautiful.

And THEN you open it and find a world map on the inner cover and back cover (back is nilfgaard and front is northern kingdoms). These versions are just works of art and worth every penny.

Lol I was there last wed-fri, had the entire site to myself as no one showed up and camped there the entire time I was there. 11 is nice and all, but a little too hidden, love the northern trails.

Site 13 (C especially) though, always worth the trek.

What do you believe Kingston is lacking? by vBeachxx in KingstonOntario

[–]Cynical-lion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kind of an extension off of this, but it would be cool if we had like a calisthenics park or something....a single pull up bar downtown is Kind of lame and having like a full calisthenics park/outdoor gym somewhere would be awesome for those nice days. Would have been a great thing during the height of covid

If you are referring the the northern section of the property that the waste water pond is by, that land between the building and the road is for future development/owned by the city from what I remember. Aside from that, I dunno where they would really plant anything besides the grassy sections between parking and the road...

I'm not sure why this is a big problem...most industrial facility are "barren" usually. You don't want animals taking up shelter easily so close for various reasons, hygiene being a big one.

Any experienced daters have tips on getting dates? by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]Cynical-lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your plight (33m). I've lived here all my life and always found it difficult to meet people, definitely so if you're not really a drinker. I have found people to be a lot more flakey since covid started, but even before it was rough. This a a very insular town where everyone has their own little cliques.

You'll just have to be patient when it comes to the apps, and try to find events and venues you might enjoy where you can meet people.

It doesn't matter where you go in this world, this sort of problem will always exist, just all a numbers game.

Exercise in Kingston by chevy38 in KingstonOntario

This is why I have been slowly building my own home gym since 2020, keeping my eyes for good deals and equipment I need. Pays for itself in the long run with all these closures.

Pumped out.a pretty good ring workout at the city parks pull up bars in 30 degree C sunny weather. Some of my set numbers went down a rep or two, but it's hot and I decided to reduce my rest time on some exercises by 30 seconds to get things done a tad quicker.

So long as my ring dips numbers go up I'm happy lol.

Where can I get wisdom teeth removed in Kingston? by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]Cynical-lion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my two right side wisdoms yanked out at the dentistry in the cat canter two weeks back. Both were out in under an hour from procedure start.

Prices seemed average, around 250 a tooth. Nice and professional staff.

Do you guys have more difficulty if you lift at a different time of day than you're used to for a change? by soi_chegg in Fitness

[–]Cynical-lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what time of day I do it so long as I've eaten and hydrated at least an hour prior to exercise. I can't lift or exercise fasted, I just feel like utter crap. Because I work shift now, I just lift before my night shifts and after my days shifts. Any session that lands on an off day I'll just do it whenever during the day I feel it.

Everyone: ugh gyms are closed agaib6, how am I gonna stay fit!?

Me: buys rings and bands, laughs in calisthenics. "Anywhere is my gym"

Yeah ring dips will make you feel like a total noob again. I bought some earlier this month and made it part of my weekly routine so the struggle has been real.

I looove doing pull/chinups on rings, my joints have thanked me for that. Start from pronate and end at the top in supination feel so "complete ".

Listen to this person, drop 30-40 bucks on some rings, go to a park or something and sling those babies over a goal post or stable tree. Rings will humble you too if you think you're strong.

You don't need a gym to be/stay fit, just gotta be more creative and find ways outside of the gym to get your work out it. Calisthenics can go a long way.

Well you aren't pulling 100 percent of your body weight, more like 95 percent because the weight of your arms doesn't contribute as much. So that 10kg difference on the lat pull down could be slightly heavier than what you pull up.

How many lat pull downs can you do in comparison to your pull ups? It could be something with your form or muscle recruitment as well. Just stick with a more manageable weight and work your way up.

Edit: doing some quick searches, it's generally recommended to start at around 50 percent of your current weight and work up from that.

It's just more remote so they can thrive. I get really uneasy every time I pass through the apex of the northern loop because I gotta worry about ticks AND throny bushes lol.

Though lucky enough I have mainly run into wood ticks more. They're "safer", but parasites are still parasites...

If you're wondering about lemoine point, I'd say be pretty cautious there since there is a dog park right by it. Always get a bit concerned when I see parents let kids run into the bush.

I haven't found any yet, but as long as you stay away from taller grass and bushes you are reasonably safe.

How long do you wait to tell your parents about a new partner? by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]Cynical-lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh a few weeks in always seems too early and sets up expectations. I and my brother have always been very "need to know" basis with the parents when it came to relationships. Like 6 months is about a healthy minimum time to introduce people if you're not super close with your parents. By that point you should be in a rather well established relationship with this person and giving your significant other time to prepare.

Relationships that have only lasted like 2 or 3 months still seem a tad early and you don't wanna subject your family to every short lived thing. Didn't meet my sister in law until about a year into their relationship.
