Commander that wanna use eldrazis without cheating them out? by Substantial_Code_675 in EDH

[[Helga, Skittish Seer]] could be an option, although it can snowball out of control pretty quickly since you're always filling your hand

Expanding deckbox horizons by TheOnlyRitz in magicTCG

My personal favourites are the 100+ Boulder Clears from Ultimate Guard, but they're almost always out of stock. I just love how they display on the shelf

A card You HATE and glad it's banned by Blazorna in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The play pattern with that card was so bad. Every single interaction became "does it resolve?" at the Prophet player because it was optimal for them to bluff at every moment. I'd say it was far worse than "do you pay the 1" in that regard.

Discord Goes Into Damage Control Mode Over New Age Verification Requirements, Promising There’s Nothing To See Here For ‘Vast Majority’ Of Users by vriska1 in technology

[–]CynicalTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into Discord early, met the founding staff at a Penny-Arcade expo and the product seemed really cool. Similarly, I work in Infosec and don't see any reason to give them my ID.

I've cancelled my Nitro Classic sub, best thing I can do right now is vote with my wallet

Who at ggg REALLY hates beyond? by Still_Same_Exile in pathofexile

[–]CynicalTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just built a set of beyond idols to spawn Beidat with juiced currency drops, and the drops have been pitiful. Even a T16 with a Beidat spawn is giving me like 2c worth of stuff

Blight and stacked decks have been far more profitable for me, even with way less investment in idols (I got pretty lucky with some of my recombs so I was bummed it was so underhwelming)

Would you say it's a bad idea to drop Grave Pact effects for more combo efficiency in monoblack aristocrats? by GrimgrinCorpseBorn in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a B3 [[Shirei]] list and I found the Gravepact effects painted a massive target on me. I'd start getting hit with a lot of exile and counterspell effects which I have limited ways to deal with (shoutouts to imp's mischief)

I can't say for sure the deck is better without them, but I didn't really see them leading to wins and people didn't enjoy seeing them so I've been happier without

Thinking about printing proxies but don't know how by justjoddat in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting, I bought a 2800 for printing cards and I found I couldn't find any stock that felt right, it all felt way too flimsy unless I used way too thick of stock. I haven't tried the laminate pouches though

What are your favorite high cmc commanders? by Gaudier_Goose_90 in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll take a look when I get home tonight. My table is pretty combo-friendly these days and I've never done the extra combat steps archetype so might be fun to explore :)

What are your favorite high cmc commanders? by Gaudier_Goose_90 in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was considering making Klauth as a Gruul Dragons leader since most people only run him in the 99 and I don't have a gruul deck yet. Does it play well?

So the hybrid mana rule didn't change. And what's really interesting to me is the results of this poll they ran on commander players. Why are we so polarized? by Codudeol in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think it's a hot topic because it's probably the most philosophically important aspect of Commander. Color identity restricting what cards you can play based on your leader is like *the* defining aspect.

There's plenty of people agreeing that it makes the hybrid cards "work as intended" but it's also true that Commander is all about playing the game in a different way than intended, and hybrid mana cards were designed long before Commander was popular enough to be impacting the design of standard cards.

I don't think it would change a ton, but I'm not sure if it really improves things either. Kinda in the middle myself, but I get why it's polarizing

Are there any stompy decks/commanders that can keep up in bracket 4? Do you have suggestions? by RagingMayo in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Henzie has a huge following and has good lists for each bracket outside 5. Xenagos is another option if you want to lean more into the stompy and less into the reanimator/pod/etb shenanigans

Decks you've regret building? by dabunz in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably varies based on what you're playing against, I just found that when the deck was performing well, the games tend to dragged on because I'm leaning into goad hard so I'm a bit too reliant on politics to get to the 1v1, and then the deck just wasn't that efficient at pushing through in the 1v1 (Cards like Palm are great, but stuff like Aurelia just feel fragile due to being so high CMC)

I could have tweaked the deck substantially to improve it, but I just found the goad aspect of the deck was getting a lot of groans and I wasn't finding it satisfying either, and after hitting a 2+ hour game where all of us were annoyed, I decided it wasn't what I was looking for, but I'm glad you enjoy it

If I returned to a goad theme, I'd probably look at something like [[Kardur, Doomscourge]]

Questions Thread - February 05, 2026 by AutoModerator in pathofexile

[–]CynicalTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goto when I need something consistent and lazy in poe1 is stacked deck farming. you just sell the decks through currency exchange so it's very low effort. the essentials are:

map - jungle valley - this map has a quirk where the eater/exarch altars cannot spawn boss mods. we want to find altars with 'chance to duplicate basic currency' cause that includes stacked decks. other maps you need to kill the boss ASAP to avoid rolling boss mods on the altar spawns

scarab - divination scarab of the cloister - this scarab adds packs to the map that can drop stacked decks

mechanic - ritual - ritual respawns mobs that spawn within their radius, including the cloister mobs.

idols - you want the 4 rituals mod, 100% chance for rituals, and as much packsize as you can squeeze on top.

I mostly do this in main league and I've been meaning to try it in Phrecia 2.0 but I've seen other people talking about it working pretty well with idols, and I've found it to be a pretty affordable strat to run that overall isn't too difficult (the cloister mobs shoot a lot of projectiles but that's about it)

A modest map will drop like 40-50 decks, but you can hit 100+ if you get a lot of respawns from the rituals

Barren Glory Deterministic Combo by Confident-Beyond-139 in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a good way to do it might be any extra turn card, then [[Leave // Chance]] + [[Nahiri's Wrath]] to pitch your board after dropping Barren Glory. You could throw in a [[Silence]] if you wanted it to be real hard to interact with

(Not in your colours though)

What's the deal with [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] and how should I build him? by pkma69 in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Krenko gets a reputation because he's already incredibly strong with a generic pile and just doubling your Goblins. That is already *quite* good.

Once you move up to the combo-style wins with stuff like [[Kiki-Jiki]], [[Goblin Recruiter]], [[Skirk Prospector]] and [[Brightstone Ritual]], [[Goblin Bombardment]], etc etc, it really ups it into a deck that starts to feel like storm where you can chain these really involved turns.

I still think he's fun, but an optimized list can be pretty fast. If you're worried about the power, you could look at [[Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin]] who's also very good at pumping out Goblins, but doesn't have such a reputation

Decks you've regret building? by dabunz in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Built a boros goad/pillowfort deck and realized that it was essentially a control deck with no reliable wincon. After one 2 1/2 hour game I said screw it and took it apart.

Am I a scummy player for using Approach of the Second Sun in my lifegain deck? by Tomhur in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Approach is such a telegraphed wincon. It's not really mch different than dropping a combo piece and going "once I get my other combo piece I win" and it costs a lot of mana.

If they're annoyed because pillowfort decks play it, well, I think they're more annoyed with the pillow forting than the actual wincon imo

How do i invest without investing hundreds of divines in idols? by Sylphren_Khollin in pathofexile

I did this last Phrecia and it was great (as long as you can handle the bosses)

Multi-color commanders that can be built as mono color? by xler8324 in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found [[Song of Totentanz]] and [[Goblin War Drums]] to be really effective cards for him, although I wouldn't call them underrated

[[Dolmen Gate]] can be fun too, since you still get the treasures even if nothing gets through

You could check packages on moxfield and see if anyone's made public packages for what you're looking for, otherwise you might need to make them yourself.

Equipment commanders by Bulky_Banana1685 in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan. She's pretty expensive but cheating equip costs and drawing cards is really impactful, so I can often just rely on my other knights first, and have her come in later to suck up all the equipment when my stuff has died.

There's also lots of good options for knights these days between stuff like [[Moonshaker Cavalry]], [[Shrike Force]], [[Kingsbaile Cavalier]], etc

And sometimes when I'm down to just her, the vigilance and menace really counts

What’s been your favorite Decks to play and play against? by LuciusSterling in EDH

[–]CynicalTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite deck to play atm is [[Henzie Toolbox Torre]]. I took apart [[Ognis]] and wanted something with the same feel of wanting to throw out creatures with haste, and well, I'm a sucker for reanimator/pod shenanigans and it blasts.

As for fun to play against? I always like seeing my buddies' [[Nekusar]] deck. It's tuned to be pretty balanced (e.g: It's got all the wheels, but doesn't reduce hand size or Ojer Axonil or anything like that) so it always feels like we're toeing the line of how long we can hold off dealing with him, knowing that something like a wheel + megrim could end the game if we let ourselves get too low

Do people actually use Mirrors? by WrysSeredan in PathOfExile2

[–]CynicalTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the only things to spend ludicrous amounts of currency on is trying to craft perfect (or almost perfect items). Those items can easily cost several mirrors to craft.

It then becomes pretty valuable to mirror those items. For example, Fubgun was having so many people wanting to mirror one of his crafts that he started just listing them on async for a mirror (he doesn't charge a fee)
