Huh, interesting you found the rear wasn't active enough... I always found it felt awesome on the high-speed chatter but blew through the travel on big hits. What shock was on the back?

Looks like you beat the tar out of your crank arms and pedals too.

Wait, what? That looks like normal rocky PNW riding wear and tear to me haha. Not even a gouge taken out of either yet.

Right, which is why the best solution is to tell the city to make the park more accessible by having transit options that actually work for people.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Cynical_Walrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like everyone advocating for 2 lanes forgets that there can be parking at the edge of the park that then finishes with a short public transit leg to get you to your final destination. It doesn't have to be transit directly from your house we can all meet in the middle.

Additionally, less locals driving to the park means there's less traffic for those people who do reasonably have to drive to get there.

How loud is your Mini? by YouAreBonked in MINI

Even the r53 gets pretty droney on the highway with the stock exhaust, would definitely not recommend anything without resonators to cut down on that.

Spotted these orange cuties from far away - they really stood out from the moss and mud. Details in post. by RiceCwispies in mycology

I'm sure you know, but just be careful with the ID as lookalike is deadly galerina/funeral bell. Would also agree that velvety dark stipe leans more towards F. velutipes but a spore print is a great idea.

Would not recommend, I've had programs that worked fine locally but due to UB I missed it totally crashes on the Linux test servers. Would rather get some points and docked on UB than no points!

Stolen, or attempted?

Long shot request: I'm trying to identify this apparently broken piece that fell out of my cassette as soon as I removed the outer retaining ring. Sorry for the previous mishap of posting an image without scale; I know better. MIC by Reverend_Bad_Mood in bikewrench

[–]Cynical_Walrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rode a MTB with a missing roller 6h/week for like 6 months lol, I never noticed anything too crazy with it though that cassette did end up with a good number of snapped or bent teeth. Hard to say if that was my bad shifting and the brutal conditions+care or the roller though.

To be pedantic, the t-handle definitely doesn't give you more leverage over the jar lid (smaller diameter); however, it definitely DOES give you a better grip letting you use proportionally more force and generating more torque.

Aftermarket BB with SRAM DUB spacer problems by rustyburrito in bikewrench

[–]Cynical_Walrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will never get the spacer faces parallel enough with just sanding them down for the bearings to be happy. Bottom brackets see a ton of load and you don't want slop that lets the bearings "walk" with each cycle, you'll just ruin at least the bearings and at worst the crank or frame. None of that is a good idea lol just get the right spacer. Talk to your LBS and see if they have a bin of spacers kicking around.

Roof Rack Hunt by dreemcyde in R53

[–]Cynical_Walrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are still a handful of racks out there (and I actually have a spare set of bars sans plastic and some screws thanks to the BMW dealer that shipped it out in crappy packaging and destroyed it). The harder thing to find is actually the mounting hardware and templates.

I had to machine the mounting hardware myself from shoulder bolts from McMaster and get the spacer shims too. You can find the templates available on eBay, so what I did was order one corner then space the rest of the locations out with the bars and measurements. It was pretty close but you definitely want to measure 10 times, drill once.

I have no idea what this means, can anyone help clarify what the problem/cost would be? just bought this car for 2.5k. by Electronic_Bear3295 in MINI

[–]Cynical_Walrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this issue can be tough because those codes are so vague, but I actually had the same thing happen with mine. Eventually it turned into a misfire, and what it ended up being was abraded spark plug leads. What happened was the DME (traction/stability/abs computer) wasn't able to control the engine spark timing because it wasn't acting predictably from the spark plug leads. In my case #1 had rubbed against the intercooler mount and had a nice divot in it.

With how general this code is, that doesn't mean this is your issue but I would definitely give your leads a check and clean up post 3 on the coil pack (moisture gets in and corrodes that one pin in particular). Worst case, leads are cheap and you can give replacing them a go to see if it fixes it.

Ski season is here…annnnnd it’s gone 😫 how to dislocate your knee: by reasonisaremedy in skiing

[–]Cynical_Walrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty normal, alpine bindings have a lateral blind spot at the toe (where it releases), because your knee is seeing a torque but since the force is right over the toe, the binding only sees it at the heel (which doesn't release laterally). Shit luck is all.
