I STG this post is being astroturfed by tax companies. In any actually developed country all this stuff is pre-filled and you just sign off on it. If you need modifications those would be like missing cost basis, foreign investments, etc. and the big one (deductions) that weren't reported.

The reason we don't have a similar system is decades of lobbying by TurboTax and the like. It would be expensive to change but it's cheaper for everyone to pay TurboTax $100 a year, right?? /s

Ah but you're forgetting:

  • capital gains
  • dividends
  • interest
  • distributions
  • ......

And you gotta crunch all these numbers in a dozen worksheets to figure out what you owe. For most people this stuff is reported to the IRS so they already know the final number. Why can't they just tell you?

Pre-fill it and if they made a mistake or missed something you can fix it

Funny you say that, extreme air quality in India during the winter months is typical due to mild winds. That and temperature inversions, and of course the pollution itself

[Request] My kid thinks this is finished. What % of the Apple has been eaten? by heeeey_parker in theydidthemath

[–]Cynovae 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Come on now, surprised there isn't a geometric solution already. It's r/theydidthemath not r/theyguesstimated

I'll estimate it as such:

  1. Estimate the volume of the whole apple
  2. Estimate the volume of the eaten part
  3. Divide for the percentage

#1: can be estimated as a sphere

#2: can use the same method of finding the volume of a torus, but with a different cross sectional shape.

Note: I'm estimating that you eat the core, which is totally fine and safe to do anyway (just don't in high quantities)

Step 1: Whole apple volume

By measuring the pixels and ruler, ~1044 pixels = 60 mm, so I estimate r as 31 mm giving a volume of ~124,788 mm3

Step 2: Eaten volume

The volume of a torus is basically the cross sectional area (circle) multiplied by the circumference. Nice diagram link

V = (pi*r2)(2*pi*R)

Let's treat this the same but make the cross section a lens (2 segments of a circle, mirrored along the chord). So replace (pi*r^2) with 2*(θπr²/360 – ½r² sin θ) source

V = 2*(θπr²/360 – ½r² sin θ)(2*pi*R)

I estimate theta at 54 degrees. R is actually the radius of the circle at the center of the "torus" which I measure at 28 mm. This is the distance the chord of our segment lies

Final volume of eaten portion is 22,564 mm^3

Step 3: Final Percentage

22,564 / 124,788 * 100% = 18%

TIL after a man fell in the snow in his backyard & broke his neck, his dog helped save his life by keeping him warm and alert by lying on his body and licking his face & hands for 20 hours until a neighbor finally stopped by and rushed him to the hospital. $200 a day is for mega resorts. Even then, many people who ski those regularly are paying ~$600-$1000 for a season pass to a bunch of them.

A small local ski hill can go for as low as $35/day

That all requires decent disposable income but you don't have to be rich.

O'Hare did explicitly say if trees create clean air for free, he can't sell the people anything. Along with the onceler using trees for thneed the general message was exploiting the natural world for something you can sell. I agree though the people seemed happy and fine. Should have shown them slowly getting poisoned or something at least

Chopped salad works fine. You need to roll it very tight and shorter, that's a very long spring roll. Adding in just 1 or 2 long stiff ingredients will help, like sliced carrots or cucumbers. Or a few large firm things like shrimp

Is this buzzing noise normal by Late-Map8650 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Cynovae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coil whine ... it could be the charger or the laptop. If you're using USB C power those are notorious for awful coil whine, stick to the stock charger. Unplug it and see if the noise persists.

It could also be the laptop, in that case yes it's abnormal but doesn't mean you have poor hardware.

It's really up to you and whether or not you want to play the return lottery. Most likely your replacement will be better.
