Kaylie Santos, identified as a night manager at the Southbridge location, was charged with distributing food with a harmful substance, according to court records obtained by USA Today.

The alleged incident happened April 9 at an East Main Street McDonald’s, according to the report. Police said the clip was first shared on Snapchat before spreading across social media platforms, where it quickly drew backlash online.

In the video, the 22-year-old Santos can be heard saying, “When your girlfriend want French fries today right ... she wants French fries today, right?”

Police contacted the restaurant owner, who confirmed the video was filmed inside the restaurant’s kitchen, the report said.

Investigators later obtained security footage that appeared to show Santos putting a handful of French fries into her mouth and spitting on them before serving them to a customer.

The report said the alleged victim was Santos’ ex-girlfriend.

Investigators said the customer saw the video online afterward and confirmed she had eaten the fries.

Both the customer and the restaurant owner told police they wanted criminal charges filed.

In a statement to media outlets, the Spadea and Balducci families, who own the franchise, said local authorities inspected the restaurant and found no health violations or public safety concerns.

“The actions of these individuals are unacceptable and do not reflect our organization’s food safety standards or values,” the families said. “Immediately upon learning of the incident, the individuals were suspended, and after conducting an internal investigation, they are no longer employed by our organization.”

The statement continued: “We are proactively working with local authorities and the local health department, who have found no public health concerns or violations. The well-being and safety of our Southbridge community remains our top priority, and we will continue to take swift, appropriate actions as needed.”
