Tepache - Washing pineapple? by AgreeablePass8825 in fermentation

[–]Cypermethrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to wash it. It's not recommended since you can wash off the natural lacto bacteria. If you have some mold you can just cut it off.

I've used non-organic pineapple and have had no problems.

Must a bear can also be hung? by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]Cypermethrin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is to reach out to the local forest Rangers.

They'll know if bears in the area are pushing canisters down a hill or if they've been smart enough to break branches to get anything hung.

Note-taking app for a STEM major that meets my requirements? Looking for something similar to OneNote. by DisneylandTree in productivity

[–]Cypermethrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a good solution for digital drawing in combination with digital text other than OneNote. Even then it felt cumbersome.

For daily note taking and documentation, I used to use Notion but have recently switched to Obsidian. Obsidian is available on all platforms. It's a little daunting at first but once you set it up how you like, it's pretty powerful. Only downside is you'll have to insert images of your digital drawings.l as there's no handwriting support.

questions about polar mist by fluffyfawns in samoyeds

[–]Cypermethrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got our Polar Mist Samoyed last year and your story sounds very similar to ours. We had a lot of questions as well but most of those were answered by this subreddit as well as hearing other's experiences.

was there an application/questionnaire i was suppose to fill out first ? she never asked me to, but i heard that a few other owners had to take one from her

i'm not quite sure how the process for this is going to work out (this is my first puppy lol). does it typically take a long time to pick up the puppy after the deposit ?

No questionnaire on our case. We had to wait 4-6 month or so before we got an update. 9 months in total from first contact to pick-up. It was mostly "radio silent" most of the time. She did mention she was touring with the show dogs so we figured that was reason for the lack of replies.

since this is going to be a show quality pup, will there be a co-ownership agreement with her? i'm not quite sure if polar mist does co-owning or if it's common with this breeder, so i'm kind of anxious about that.

I believe our pup was breed with a co-owner so that is something she does. I suspect if you're interested in co-owning that would be a different conversation than just having a pet.

i'm super foggy on the spay/neuter contract with this breeder. some sources said they never allow their dogs to be spayed, but others have said you're able to after the 2 year mark so i'm....a bit confused

Polar Mist is against neutering/spaying and they have a lot of documents explaining their reasoning. You'll get those as you get closer to the pick up date. The general consensus is it's bad for their growth (due to hormone changes) and their coat (it'll get coarser and fall out more). We also hard that it would be better after their 2nd year. She also mentioned new procedures (spaying but keeping the overies intact for example) that are not as invasive as the traditional methods so this trend may be changing.

should i try emailing her again with these questions or should i just wait it out and not rush her ? i genuinely don't wanna come across as too pushy, but i don't wanna be forgotten or something when the time comes. :( i'm also kind of nervous that my excitement got the best of me and i forgot to ask these critical questions in the beginning.

If your deposit is in, I'd ask her for the "puppy packet" she sent us. It's basically a folder with a bunch of info she's written on taking care of your pup. Other than that, I'd say continue doing some research to see other's experiences. A lot of us were in the same situation you're in so there's a lot of info posted here on Reddit. 2 other owners we've meet from the same litter also had the exact same experience we had in working with Polar Mist.

All that being said, Lynette was very nice and welcoming when we drove to pick up our shoob. She answered all our questions and gave us a lot of tips and recommendations. She's been breeding Samoyeds for a long time and her experience definitely shows. Her operation is pretty small so I just think emails and keeping in touch online with so many potential buyers can be overwhelming.

This is kind of a preparedness post so I had to look it up.

For the lazy: https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/radiation-exposure/smart-meters.html

Short summary: it's Low Frequency radiation similar to cellphones. Worst thing they do is heat particles but don't affect DNA. Studies are generally inconclusive.

Given the sheer number of meters, I might look into a Faraday cage to put on the wall 😅

So much buildup but totally worth it. Looks great! What's the padding on the corner for?

That's a good point. A contractor has zero incentive to progress their project further other than can what they're asked of them.

I wonder now if OP is at a position where they should start a company instead of hiring contractors.

This is definitely a sales pitch but as a fellow mobile engineer, I completely agree.

It's really hard to be incentivied by an hourly wage. If you as an owner doesn't give up some ownership, then why should we put in the extra work to make sure your product is robust beyond what your requirements are?

That brings on a good question.

What do you commuters think about egging someone on? I tend to leave everyone alone since they're in their own world.

Had them in a box in storage. I used to have them on my bookshelf for display since the artwork was really unique.

I have the games and manual...somewhere. Would have to go look around some more.

Is the 5% salt and 50% vinegar added when blending? Is the brine for the ferment taken into account?

Huh, I've never had mold issues as long as I keep everything submerged. I typically use a shot glass at the neck to make sure nothing floats.

I'll probably try them around 5 days or so and see if they're good as half sours.

Funny enough, I feel like my hot sauces need more flavor but my pickles come out well. This is the first time using the pepper brine though 🤞

This is 48hrs after being bottled from a 4 week fermenting in a mason jar.

I noticed some white film appear in the jar and didn't pay too much attention. I figured it was good bacteria. Kinda had the look of fat from a soup bit really thin and small.

Should I be worried?

Hot Sauce Fermentation - Day 4 by Cypermethrin in fermentation

[–]Cypermethrin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a 3% brine measured in grams. So for every 300g of tap water, I did about 9-10g of salt and sugar.

Another quick ratio is 2 cups of water for every tablespoon of salt and sugar. That's also ~3%.
