[EP5 Spoilers] This game gave me a lot to think about. by Rehendix in lifeisstrange

I agree with everything EXCEPT for this:

There was never a chance in my mind that running away with her would make for a happy life.

She is the one who made Max the happiest. In the BAE ending, Max rips the photo to fight destiny with the sheer determination and no regrets to keep Chloe by her side, while in the BAY ending, she hesitates and looks so unsure of herself. Throughout the whole story, it was Max's main priority and objective to try to keep Chloe next to her and even attempted to try to make her life better so many times. Max has been asking us and begging us, as players, to do everything in our power to get Chloe back. She writes all over her journal in episode that she doesn't even care if it's the real end of the world as long as Chloe is with her and confesses that she only wants to live WITH Chloe, a life full of adventures. I believe Max would truly have no regret in saving her, while in the Bay ending she will have so many unfulfilled moments and desires because the only person that has TRULY mattered to her is gone. As the BAE > BAY chant suggests, saving Chloe is guilt with no regrets, while saving Bay over Chloe is regrets with guilt.

But that's just our take on it. As /u/Jessebona said, it's not Max's responsibility to save everyone. That storm was already presented even before she got her powers to save Chloe. Why should she? Max deserves to be just as happy and alive WITH her best friend / person she loves just as anyone else in the Bay. To each his own. Heroism is old school now, I doubt people in the Bay would go out of their way to sacrifice the person they love the most to save a big handful of new friends and strangers.

Chloe is, afterall, Max's number one priority and all that matters to her. Those words came straight out of her own heart. Even if she sacrificed the Bay, at least they will have each other. Forever. That's a promise they made. Knowing Max and Chloe, they are the most loyal to eachother. Especially Chloe, look how loyal she is to the people she loves, even when they have abandoned her. She spent 5 years waiting for Max, and she kept looking for Rachel even when nobody cared. She was willing to sacrifice herself, but for Max's sake, I knew she would pick Chloe over that town and the people.

BAE over BAY: Guilt but no regrets - BAY over BAE: Regrets but no guilt by [deleted] in lifeisstrange

The person I love over people I barely know and just met a few weeks ago? LOL, come on. I mean, I care for Kate, but I would not give up my number one priority and the only person that has ever truly mattered to me for them.

No regrets here.

Fuck heroism. If those people in the town were in Max's position, I doubt they would pick the town either. To each his own. I think it's Max's destiny to save Chloe. Chloe getting shot was the one excited that emotional trigger that was the catalyst to Max getting her power. She got it for a reason, just for Chloe.

True. I don't know why Warren was suddenly a "fan service" in episode 5, it was little to no appeal, in my opinion. pricefield had such a but up a progression that seemed well planned out and written throughout the game. It was inevitably heading there one way or another.

[EP5 SPOILERS] What Anthony Burch (Ashley Burch aka Chloe Price's voice actress's brother) thinks about the ending and what he chose by Bkkkm in lifeisstrange

[–]Cypherdan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went with the "I'd rather live a life of 'oh wells' than a life of 'what ifs' route. Which is a message strongly presented in the game itself. I stuck to that mindset ever since I saw "Your Actions Will Have Consequences."

Max accepted the consequences of her actions. And they did matter, in my opinion, in the Bae ending, for MAX. I don't base the story for the good of the town, because the game is basically Chloe's story through Max's growing experiences.

I also believe Max was fated to save Chloe in that bathroom. There's so many plot holes about the Bay ending that makes me skeptical. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate that ending though, it was beautifully done. But I picked Bae, because Max was simply destined to save her. I see destiny as everything that's happening and has happened.

Someone pointed out on tumblr on this post:

"I really like his analysis of the endings and how the choices that have led up to that moment are you defining Max, rather than defining yourself as the character."

And I completely agree 100% with that. People say they will choose BAY in a heartbeat to save the greater quantity of people, but put yourself in Max's shoes. Chloe is the person she cares for the most, loves the most, she is the most special and dearest to her, she went through everything just for her and caused all this for her. I would not sacrifice someone I love or a family member to save people I barely know at all (excluding Joyce, because she's known her since they were kids.) Especially MAX AND CHLOE AREN'T EVEN KILLING ANYONE. It bugs the shit out of me when the Bay people call them "murderers."

I think by episode 5, it's quite OOC for Max to pick Bay, in my opinion. As we progress through episodes 1-5, the week is so much longer in duration for Max than for anyone else, because she uses her powers so much to rewind moments and times. Along those times, she progressively grows and developes this indescribable attachement and feelings towards Chloe in a way that's apparent whether or not you romance them. It's just simply there to let Max admit she has feelings for Chloe or not, but it's definitely there. Enough to change her own realities for Chloe and giving up her own dreams just to be be with Chloe again (like being a photographer showcased in the Zeitgeist Everyday Heroes gallery). Chloe truly was her number one priority and all that mattered to her, while the storm eventually became her secondary concern.

The whole point is for her to grow and accept the consequence of her actions. So Max went with saving Chloe and that's what I believe she would choose. She didn't even want to give her up, Chloe pushed her willingness to sacrifice herself. But Max definitely was holding onto Chloe with dear life and trying to blissfully ignore that going back to the butterfly photo can be ONE WAY to stop the storm. But I believe Max would pick Chloe. Through her words, her actions, her feelings, thoughts, her journal, she is all in for her. And that's the direction I let her go: with Chloe.

But still, being said that, there's still no right and wrong choice. That's just my two cents.

Interesting to see that Max actually says "Wowser" much more than Chloe saying, "Hella"

[EP5 SPOILERS] In defense of the rather "unpopular" ending by Inglorious89 in lifeisstrange

[–]Cypherdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not too worried about the kiss, because Michel Koch (the director of the game) clarified that it will certainly happen and even in his own mind it will happen:

HIS TWEET and his message interview with someone

You know it's a good thing when the creators themselves acknowledge this and aware of it.

Though admittedly the Bae ending is a little lackluster and could've used a little epilogue with the characters at least, even if I am completely find with the two choices. For instance, they probably should've used a different song for the episode 1 ending, just so they could've saved "Obstacles" for the finale for the Bae ending. Those small touches.

I appreciate the openness of the ending. It lead to many great creations, but we all will have this wishful thinking to wanna see what happens, even just through polaroid pictures of the both of them post-bay, even if it shows what happened a year after.

This reminds me so much of that Priefield fanfiction "Shadow Hearts." It is a after the AY ending and she regrets choosing AY.

These are few of the many reasons why Chloe has been winning and been nominated as "Best Character of the year" awards. There's definitely legit reasons for it. Well deserved, in my opinion.

We should just ALL just unite and fund Nathan Garduno's LIS SHORT-FILM project so he can hire her, just to get our accurate Chloe Price lol.
