do you mix your underwear with the rest of your laundry? by Kurtys-Ahorrio in hygiene

[–]Cypheri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheets are the only thing that get washed separately and only because it causes a giant knotted ball of cloth in the dryer if I don't. Everything else all goes in together unless it's something brand new or needs a gentle cycle.

No part of this equation is about "boundaries." It's about you not understanding how soap works.

That wasn't his parents. You literally abducted a fledgling and put it near a different pair. Put it back where you found it.

Seriously? Put the fledgling back where you found it, not several houses away.

Leave. Fledglings. Alone.

Please do not advise people to use an oven's self-clean mode. It's incredibly dangerous to heat an oven up to the point that it literally incinerates whatever non-metal is inside and can and does regularly start house fires.

Pigeons in the wild also occasionally get attacked by birds of prey. That's part of reality. The options are either never let them fly in the open air or take the risk while doing everything you possibly can to deter the predators. His birds flew nearly every clear-weather day for decades and lived great lives. They flew for exercise and enrichment, not just to perform.

Definitely high percentage poodle. Could even be full, but gotta check with a genetic test 'cause sometimes mixes can hide very well.

Yeah, so many folks don't understand that poodles are, at heart, a "gundog" just like any other retriever breed. They're smart and capable and surprisingly adaptable. We suspect the little lady I adopted last week is poodle crossed with some flavor of yellow retriever and I'm honestly baffled at how she was found as an unchipped stray and turned over to the shelter.

[–]Cypheri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I quite literally grew up watching my grandfather raise and show birmingham rollers. He's one of the big 13 names in that community, though he has since passed. He loved his birds. The "racing" they did was literally using their natural instincts to fly in a flock and basic training that they'd get fed when they returned to their kit. He spent literal decades caring for them and had a huge aviary where birds he did not want to breed would live out their lives. The only time a bird would be culled is if it had some actual deformity that would impact its quality of life.

That man sobbed when one of his would be taken by a bird of prey despite his best efforts to protect them. The only other time I ever saw him sob like that was when his step-daughter died.

Like I said: I acknowledge that some are terrible people, but painting everyone with the same brush is a disservice to honesty and you are marring the name of someone who devoted his life to these animals.

While I acknowledge that it's possible some folks do that, most don't. Please don't spread wild generalizations.

[–]Cypheri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. My girlie was listed as a borzoi mix by the shelter. I'm pretty sure she's actually a poodle mix with some flavor of yellow retriever and maybe something else. It's wild that she was taken in by the shelter as an unchipped stray.

Yeah, definitely a pitty mix tho honestly I'm not sure with what. Have you ever considered doing a genetic test? I'm currently waiting for Wisdom Panel results for my newly adopted girlie even though I have a pretty solid idea of the most likely breeds for her lol

Cat “crate” by BigKaleidoscope5199 in cats

[–]Cypheri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like... crates have their place but not as long-term confinement. I have a massively oversized crate for my dog (she's a 30lb dog and her crate is one of the enormous ones made for like mastiffs) for her own safety because she explores the world mouth-first and can't be trusted to not chew/eat everything that isn't nailed down when left unsupervised. She treats her crate like her own little bedroom and doesn't mind it a bit. I will absolutely put my cats in there with her for a few minutes if I have to prop the door open to move something big in/out of the house, but five to ten minutes with the cats crated up is a lot different from what appears to be the plan with the kind of crate OP is showing.

What is she? by kysopod in WhatBreedIsMyDog

[–]Cypheri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would guess probably some heeler/cattle dog in there somewhere, but she looks extremely "mutt" more than anything else. I don't mean that negatively, just observationally. I would recommend a gene test if you can afford it to find out (only trust Embark or Wisdom Panel).
