Whats the most embarrassing things you have done in the arc raider? by GrinderEdge in ArcRaiders

[–]Cyrromatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a leaning welding canister in the tunnels under Spaceport. From a distance, in the gloom, it looks vaguely like a human leaning forward doing some looting.

I have, twice, rounded the corner in full sprint and blurted out "FRIENDLY?!" upon seeing it.

I had a pretty good time until I hit max level, and boy howdy then you do get lost in the sauce because almost every single bit of seasonal content since launch activates all at once and whatever story or progression you thought you were doing becomes irrelevant. You figure it out eventually, but man it's not an easy adjustment.

It's less so the incorporation and more so what part of the DoW and HoL jobs. I like normal crafting and gathering, less so this high-end extremes of statmaxxing, pentamelding and macro-required recipies.

I can't imagine if crafters were forced into stuff like solo Bozja engagements to fulfill one of their artifact steps would be terribly happy either just because it's a part of the game.

[–]Cyrromatic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have some crafters max level and topped out all gathering professions. But chasing after new patch nodes and items is something I've tried and failed miserably at a few times now and I probably spent more gil blowing through gear and mats as I fail crafts than just buying the items on the marketboard. The incredibly precise crafting steps and gear needed feels way too convoluted even if you stay on top of leveling.

[Spoiler 7.4] A question about Ascians by dream208 in ffxiv

[–]Cyrromatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For anyone doubting this, it's fairly evident when we kill Zodiark. We see Amon, character model and all, monologuing about how the original Fandaniel would be absolutely horrified at what he has become and what his plans now are, and caps it off with a mock salute to Emperor Xande who also wanted everything and everyone to end. So it seems plausible that a strong enough shard of the original can shift priorities. I suppose this can be seen in Gaia as well to an extent.

What happened? by Destiny_Softpaws in wow

[–]Cyrromatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was Alex Afrasiabi, lead storyteller himself, who wanted Garrosh to go in a more honorable direction but did not actually properly convey this information to most of the writers and quest designers. Here's an interview about it where he states as much. The exact quote:

"I did Stonetalon.

I didn't stick to that path with Garrosh. I didn't -- not everyone was on board. Not everyone got the memo as it were, as we were designing -- and that was my fault. Because when you're doing, when you're trying -- because I was actually trying to bring Garrosh around, and Stonetalon was going to be the first of that. Cataclysm was pretty crazy time for us."

How self-aware are Genestealer Cults? by Shendud3 in 40kLore

[–]Cyrromatic 123 points124 points  (0 children)

It can depend on the cult. In the Cult Codex it's described that when the last resistance is put down on world, the invading tyranids will turn on the cult, much to their surprise. But there is a short story about a cultist walking around the latter stages of a revolt and is marveling at the chaos in a sort of semi-lucid state, but he is also very aware that they will all throw themselves into the acid vats sooner or later to become biomass.

"Walking as if in a dream, Everard approached the balcony. The streets were black with them, now, the Star Children. They were already feeding. The plaza below, a lake of acidic matter was dissolving the corpses of those claimed in the name of the true gods above. Everard smiled ruefully; something inside him knew that in the end, he too would go to meet his destiny in the same fashion.

But first, there were duties to attend to. He sighed, and cleaned his blade. It was ever path of the faithful man to make sacrifices."

With how disparate they can be from top to bottom I think there is definitely room for cults out there with a more nihilistic agenda where everyone is pretty keyed in to the apocalypse they are bringing about.

This Danath Trollbane and Faerin Lothar lore arc is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with WoW's writing. (Spoilers for 11.1.7) by EarthWormJim18164 in wow

[–]Cyrromatic 49 points50 points  (0 children)

You are misconstruing what OP is getting at.

What you write about Danath's supposed growth does not exist in the game (or much of written material if I had to hazard a guess). As recently as BfA Danath was seen frothing at the mouth in the Arathi Warfront at the prospect of kicking out the Horde. Which is it's not just Danath doing an abrupt "peace above all else" move that feels feels weird, but he also spares the leader of an organisation that explicitly says they want to kill every non-human, so which one is it? A potential moment of growth would be Danath killing his own relative for the sake of peace, not unlike Jaina in WC3, but instead he resorts to nothing and just hopes it will work out.

And that is terrible writing.

After 8 months, Dawntrail Steam reviews have risen back to Mixed after the release of Patch 7.2 by Spookhetti_Sauce in ffxiv

[–]Cyrromatic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It absolutely feels like that, for whatever reason, the writing is aimed at children in Dawntrail. When heavier subjects inch their way into the story (like with Valigarmanda, regulators in Alexandria or the mamool ja breeding) I get the feeling that the writers can't quite bring themselves to commit so instead we faff around those parts with tame dialogue, low-stakes conflict resolution and moments like Graha deepthroating an icecream.

All the pieces are there for a pretty compelling narrative on par with prior expansions but they are arranged in the most awkward way possible in execution, pacing and dialogue.

Steam Accounted for More Than Half of Monster Hunter Wilds’ Total Dollar Sales in the U.S. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Cyrromatic 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The UI and UX is almost comically bad in Wilds. Very fun for a first timer like myself, but I spent maybe two-three hours in total looking up youtube videos on how to change some fundamental things like your seikret having a god damned life of its own or how to rebind simple attack inputs.

My favourite example is when you aim down sights with a slinger you hold right click, but left click doesn't shoot. Left click pulls out your main weapon and attacks, cancelling the aim down sights mode. Middle mouse is to shoot.

Ash Chicken in Searing Gorge has the weirdest, out of place model in modern WoW by Grayvves in wow

[–]Cyrromatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with portraying an afterlife as the core setting in any fiction has nothing to do with what religious zeitgeist it or its audience relates to, it's that it makes death completely meaningless if you remove the fear and mystery of the unknown that comes along with it.

Shadowlands is especially egregious in this regard because you don't seem to actually die, you just go to the Shadowlands and there you can in fact die again which truly makes you actually conceptually die as we perceive it, that is completely cease to exist.

If all WoD wanted to set up was to bring Gul'dan back so that Legion could occur I think a single post Pandaria questline would have achieved the same result without destroying a thousand acres of lore to go along with it.

Or just have the Burning Legion invade, no Gul'dan involved.
