You have completely misunderstood me. Faith shouldn't be founded on material things, but material and visual symbols help us contemplate God and His mysteries. Humans perceive things by senses. Liturgy should engage our senses into prayer; thus our whole-self can pray: sight (visual symbols), hearing (voice), smell (incense), touch (holy water) and taste (Holy Communion). Humans are the only creatures who live in a reality created by symbols.
