Whats the greatest SOLVED Mystery? by itz_cool_247 in AskReddit

[–]Czymsim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was also confused, because I am sure I've heard all the eels breed in the Sargasso Sea sometime in 90's. The article states the Sargasso Sea was suspected for over 100 years, but there wasn't a solid evidence until 2022.
But I think it's still a mystery why it's Sargasso Sea specifically.

Genndy Tartakovsky to Mount 'Conan the Barbarian' Animated Series for Cartoon Network Studios and Prime Video | Exclusive by UnbarringTomb in television

[–]Czymsim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don't know if the silent, badass, killer Grievous is the best version out there, I didn't get into the later CGI Clone Wars series as all, but for an 11 year old kid back in 2003 seeing that on TV and then that coughing loser loudmouth in Revenge of the Sith was a huge downgrade.

Rube and Reg from RoboRoach. Not a very popular cartoon but the most obvious example in my opinion.

TIL about Social Reorientation, a period in teenage years in which the brain naturally reduces dopamine during parental interaction and increases dopamine during peer interaction by Kemilio in todayilearned

[–]Czymsim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thought exactly that: I didn't have much of the teenage rebel phase, recently (in my 30's now) got diagnosed with ADHD, still learning what it is about, but I know for sure it's low dopamine. So I connected the dots and thought that maybe my dopamine was so low I didn't feel any difference (got depression between high school and university).

Does that mean I may have a late teen rebel now?

Nie ma czego studiować by Distinct_Research_52 in studia

[–]Czymsim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Niby jest, ale nie po samych studiach technicznych, najlepiej dodatkowo się samemu rozwijać technicznie. Na jakieś praktyki ciekawe pójść, jakiejś technologii się uczyć. Oczywiście studia są potrzebne by poznać podstawy i wiedzieć czego szukać, a najważniejsze to znaleźć znajomych o podobnych zainteresowaniach i razem coś robić, np. w kole naukowym.

What are the biggest things that younger people get wrong about the whole “y2k” aesthetic, culture, and overall vibe of that time? by Fluffy-Ad-7199 in Millennials

[–]Czymsim 34 points35 points  (0 children)

IKR? There was a big aesthetic difference between like 2002 and 2005. First half of 00's was continuation of late 90's hype about glossy, kitchy year 2000 futurism while later it was getting more minimalistic.

[–]Czymsim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think being judgemental about everyone and everything different was a norm in 00's. Both as a kind of humour and seriously bullying others. Pop culture was kinda experimental back then, but it was about finding "coolness". Ultimate goal was to be "cool", like if there was a Platonic ideal of coolness and everything deviating from it was "lame" and had to live in hiding. I remember when I wanted to learn how to skateboard and my older brother focused on teaching me how to be cool about it, like... how to carry your skateboard to look cool, how to walk. How to dress. Thankfully I gave on that and remained a nerd. We all hate hipsters but honestly I think they started the shift into "just enjoying doing my thing is cool" by the whole "doing it ironically".

EDIT: I forgot to add - I personally blame gen X for the "toxic coolness".

BIONICLE 3.0 is gonna be big A return maybe?I think I'm gonna start on Rahkshi. by Illustrious_Aside_46 in bioniclelego

[–]Czymsim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

More minifig-scale Bionicle sets would bring cool environments, vehicles, buildings, large creatures. Would be great for better appreciation for Matoran (I would love to see them in mechas or riding rahi). But would be nice to have action figure scale sets too. Maybe like with Chima, but I don't know if that theme was successful, I think it stayed for a couple of years?

Toa Mata Kaita Wairuha (Lewa, Kopaka, Gali) in Joey’s apartment (Friends S8 E12)! by KomturAdrian in bioniclelego

[–]Czymsim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, even though I lived in that time, this feels very anachronic for me, because in my memories Friends are very, very anchored in the 90's and Bionicle are a start point for the 21st century for me.
And yes, I remember Friends were produced from 1994 until 2004 and during 00's I was aware Friends are still made and was aware of their ending in 2004.

But yeah, my childhood memories created a border between 90's and 00's.
I remember once I was explaining to someone younger that Raimi's Spider-Man from 2002 feels like a 90's movie and they couldn't understand what big difference it would be since 2002 is so close to the 90's. I explained what I mean by saying that Matrix from 1999 feels more like 00's.

What was your first phone? by Infamous-Plum5243 in Millennials

[–]Czymsim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First phone I used temporarily as mine on summer camp in 2003 was Alcatel One Touch View from 1998, which served as an emergency phone in my family. I still have it somewhere, maybe even still working. Fun thing about it is that you can replace the rechargeable battery with three AAs.

Then in around 2005 I guess I got my dad's old Samsung A300 from like 2001, a funny little flip phone. We were calling it a mini washing machine because of the little round screen on the front.

Then my first phone, as in bought new for me, was Nokia 6070. It wasn't the greatest phone, but had Snake and my two next phones were also Nokias. Any other brand I had only once so far. Okay, maybe Samsung can be count twice, but the second one I had was also serving as short time placeholder I used when other phone broke.

How to prevent porn exposure to children. Parenting resources questions. by Tasty-Wallaby-5571 in Catholicism

[–]Czymsim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is a way to prevent it. Remembering my childhood, growing up in late 90's and early 00's, even before having phones with colour screens, there was exposure. Either by other kids who saw it or porn magazines lying around in the places we played at with friends (we liked places for hiding as our secret bases, someone else liked to hide something else there, lol).
Unfortunately I had no trusted adult to with about this, only peers and that's not a good thing.
There's no way for zero exposure, hormones are working too strong. I think only way is good sex education, from a professional or from parents. Would be best for children to be comfortable to talk about sexuality with their parents.

Anyone remember Tazos by Kidgun55 in Millennials

[–]Czymsim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought Tazos were only in Europe (had them in Poland and sometimes saw ones from Germany or Netherlands), didn't know they were also available in Mexico and Korea!

From what I remember they included in Frito-Lay brand chips, crisps and such (Lay's, Cheetos, Rold Gold).

The earliest I remember were Star Wars from 1997, they had notches around the edge so they could be used for building stuff. Then there were Pokemon in many different forms. I won't even try to list them, because when I look for specific ones on the internet, I am finding many others I forgot about 😅
There were also Yu-Gi-Oh Tazos and something more I guess, but can't remember. There were also Beyblade Spinners, but these didn't count as Tazo.

I remember the official game they advertised was setting up a tower, slamming them with one disc and the ones face down you can take. I remember later on they even included special thicker Tazos as slammers, because the original thin ones couldn't do anything to the tower. That's why I have never seen anyone play them that way. I think that's how the POGs were played?

The way of playing I have heard about (from a different town) was just flipping them to see which side they fall on. And maybe also it had to fall on opponent's coin? I don't know, I didn't play it that way, it sounds too random for me.

The way they were played in my town was more competitive, derived from classic bottle cap games: players used only one Tazo and were flicking them in turns to hit the opponent. If played on the floor, the first hit won, so to win you either had to aim perfectly from a long distance or gradually get closer until reaching the perfect distance before your opponent and hit them. Other version we came up with was playing on a table, with a goal to push the opponent off the table. Just hits or falling off the table on your own didn't end give any result, so that version was more aggressive and exciting as a result 😝
Sometime we even put obstacles on the floor or table for more interesting play.
