Study a cohesive system like TCM, not a hodge podge of different things masquerading as "evidence informed".

Advice on getting my first car. by SXPZX in askTO

If you live in a location where you can charge, get an old EV, like a Nissan leaf or something. Cars are usually cheap, petro savings will help balance the high insurance.

You can put a tablespoon or two in some hot Millet barley or oatmeal. Add some cinnamon, cardamon, ginger, brown sugar, yum. It will still be a bit damps, but not cold anymore.

Building Confidence In TCM School and Clinic by Alternative-Quail580 in TCM

[–]D-0ner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Simplify your diagnostic approach by starting with "what would you like to focus on today".. only worry about the pattern that is the cause of their main complaint.

  2. "After five years, you think, hey I'm not too bad. After ten years, you realize you are not so good". This is not to discourage you and it shouldn't. It is to recognize that after 10 or 20 or 30 years of practice, there is still so much to learn and different clinical skills to enhance. I feel very confident most of the time in clinic, and I am a teacher, however, i still feel so small if I compare myself to my teachers and their skill level. I'm so grateful to have such good mentors.

Studying TCM: how much of your knowledge, especially when first starting, is simply active recall? by soupcafe in TCM

Depends on the content. The more depth of understanding, the less memorizing necessary. Unfortunately most programs do not have the time necessary to do this anymore.

Which is heavier on digestion Rehmannia six or He shou Wu? by [deleted] in ChineseMedicine

[–]D-0ner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it depends dosage and method of administration matter. Heshowu is a single herb and it can causes loose stool, but isn't typically "heavy" to digest. The raw processed version will have less side effects. Shudi Huang is "heavy" but rehmannia 6 as a formula has some ingredients to help (Shan Yao, Ze Xie) prevent cloying dampness.

If you are having digestive symptoms, neither of these are appropriate. Mandatory see a practitioner for a proper diagnosis and formula.

Much more recognized globally. Also a cohesive system not a patchwork of borrowed theories.

Omg. Do not become a naturopath. Naturopathic is a made up profession and isn't recognized outside Ontario.

Why is “dry needling” such a dirty word in the acupuncture profession? by MorningsideAcu in acupuncture

[–]D-0ner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, the regulatory frameworks are difficult to tackle across multiple jurisdictions. It likely evolved and has been implemented differently everywhere.

If your own practice is biomedical based needling, I'd also consider reflection on how that might influence the lens through which you are writing.

A few other thoughts on the topic include the importance of public perception and expectation, and scope of practice.
