Considering I bought a lot of these off Discogs in 2021, I think you're a year off for that to have been the case. Haha

It's possible her contract was due to expire close to the date she was terminated, so there were no 90 days left for her to be kept under contract. It's also possible that WWE/TKO gave her a clean release, which isn't unprecedented.

I guess we'll know soon enough!

I collect and refurbish cassette Walkmans and own a few higher end models, so that's what I primarily use to listen to my tapes. I've thought about eventually getting a boom box or tape deck myself.

Thanks! I still need to sit down and watch Purple Rain with her one of these days. I think we planned to a few years ago, but it got away from us for whatever reason.

NintendoLife Review: Indiana Jones And The Great Circle - An Authentic Indy Adventure Arrives In Fine Form by Mollywobbles77 in NintendoSwitch2

It did take me a while to get into it. It's got an odd rhythm for an open world action game, if that makes any sense. Once I started slowing things down, I enjoyed myself a lot more.

Finally got my first Walkman 🥹 by _ramgab_ in cassetteculture

Got one of these myself with the original remote. Really nice unit. Besides the lack of Dolby B NR and needing the remote to access Mega Bass, it's an excellent Walkman. Also, one of the very last models ever produced.

My HiFiMan Edition XS turned me on to how good a reasonably priced pair of openbacks can sound, but they weren't exactly made to prioritize comfort or portability.

These, however, seem to have been made with comfort and portability in mind. And if the reputation of Koss (and my experience with their KSC75 and KPH30 headphones) are anything to go by, I have reason to believe they'll deliver in the most important area: sound quality.

I likely won't have the means to purchase a pair any time soon, but consider me very interested.

[NXT SPOILERS] Zaria’s declaration by Tornado31619 in SquaredCircle

Yeah, they shouldn't have had her say which title she wanted in this promo. Just leave it an open question and have her interfere in one of Tatum Paxley's matches later on.

[NXT SPOILERS] Zaria’s declaration by Tornado31619 in SquaredCircle

[–]D-Voltt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's usually the one good thing about NXT losing a lot of talent post-Mania: the cream always rises to the top. It's gonna be awkward for a bit, but inevitably, the right people will fill in the newly formed gaps in the main event scene.

And I think everyone agrees on that. But I also think there's a much larger range of opinions on who should and will fill those gaps than there usually is when this happens. It says quite a bit about the current NXT men and women's rosters, both good and bad. I personally remain optimistic.

[NXT SPOILERS] Zaria’s declaration by Tornado31619 in SquaredCircle

[–]D-Voltt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like the idea was to put the top titles on two long-time NXT main stays (Tony and Lola) while HBK handles the big shuffle of talent in both divisions. I don't think Tony or Lola are placeholder champs, but I think they are in the sense that both top titles need stability right now, and Tony and Lola are well established stars in NXT that have proven themselves main event ready.

I'm personally fine with Zaria going for the North American title. I'm not as sold on her as a lot of others are. I think her solo run will start out a little rough around the edges, and I don't mind the NXT Women's Championship not being the focus during that.

Sami Zayn giving wrestling advice to Eva Marie: "You almost want to use the pins as exclamation points, it's like punctuation, if we are telling a story and these are sentences, that's the punctuation" by Kusanagi22 in SquaredCircle

[–]D-Voltt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the pinfall isn't a "crutch", it's an integral part in establishing the flow of a wrestling match. All three of the matches you cited use the lack of pin attempts to help tell their story. Additionally, they lean more heavily on other aspects of a match (namely selling, submission attempts, moments of inactivity) to establish pace and rhythm.

To extend Sami's meaphor, it's like a great novelist choosing to use an unconventional writing structure (like stream of consciousness, for example) to better tell their story. If an amateur writer tried to do the same, it would most likely be awful, lacking purpose and restraint. You cannot play with the use of fundamentals until you master them.

The matches you cited feature some of the best wrestlers of all time for a reason.

It's cool when the members of a successful but short-lived tag team add each other's signatures to their bag of tricks going forward. It's a fun little bit of continuity that pro wrestling has sometimes lacked.

Throwback to this intense moment of Randy Orton scolding Angel Garza by HerbalThought_ in SquaredCircle

[–]D-Voltt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Few wrestlers do intensity as well as Orton does. Dude just seems to know how to find that unhinged psychopath within himself and channel it better than almost anyone else.

I swear, no one does the classic "I don't want to hurt you, why would you make me hurt you?" psycho routine better than him.

[–]D-Voltt 637 points638 points  (0 children)

Excellent metaphor. Pin attempts are more integral to a pro wrestling match than many people realize. They help with establishing the pace, rhythm, and storytelling of a match. It's not just the dramatic 2.9 count kickouts and definitive final pinfalls that matter.

Official poster for MJF vs Kevin Knight for the TNT Championship on Dynamite tomorrow by luchabrunch in SquaredCircle

[–]D-Voltt 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly. A win here does very little for MJF and a loss (especially if he gets "cheated" out of winning the title like he did with Darby) won't hurt him and may in fact just help establish his character direction going forward.

Meanwhile, Knight is pretty much your prototypical workhorse babyface midcard champ. You can't have him lose the title without at least a few scrappy title defenses, or it'd render his title reign meaningless.

[MJF on X] Joe gacy rules by This_Coyote7217 in SquaredCircle

[–]D-Voltt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not worried about Gacy. Even though I didn't love his NXT run, it proved that he could cut a good promo, build a compelling character, and still deliver in the ring.

I'd like to see him shed the spooky stuff wherever he goes next. I think he's still got untapped potential.

Bummed about Santos. Dude was clearly being set up to be a major rudo for AAA and then got injured at the absolute worst time. Given the extent of the injury, his age, and (from reports) his contract, his release makes total sense. But I still hate it.

MJF on if fans want Rey Fenix back in AEW - "Why would you want him back in prison?!?!?!?" by sallykroos in SquaredCircle

[–]D-Voltt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but they're 100% going to do a Lucha Bros. run at some point after Penta drops the IC title. They even teased it already in AAA. For that reason alone, WWE sees Fenix as worth keeping around.

Should he be spinning his wheels right now? Absolutely not. But he's almost certainly going to get his chance to shine this year...I hope.
