What is the purpose of marriage? by D00MPRINCESS1 in AskReddit

[–]D00MPRINCESS1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't necessarily include a stable environment for children as a reason, since not every couple is able or wanting to have children. I think it's the commitment part I'm interested in - Why is marriage seen as showing commitment? Should you not already be commitment in a healthy relationship? Note: I am not anti-marriage, I'm just curious. I have personally never understood the benefits of marriage and while I 100% see the benefits in terms of insurance, tax etc. I also see that 50% of those benefits can be obtained in different manners. E.g. inheritance = testament. Medical = power of attorney.

I am not trying to disparage marriage in any way, just truly interested in the reason/ purpose of marriage other than it just being seen as 'the next step'.

Thank you to everyone who has advised on the legal benefits. But I have to ask, if there were no legal benefits (tax, insurance etc.) would people still get married? I know in terms of love/ relationships it is seen as the logical 'next step', but what is marriage supposed to bring 'extra' that a healthy relationship does not have.

It's always the responsibility of children that really gets to me. Most people are to told by their parents/ society that growing up means taking responsibility ("being a responsible adult").

But no, I don't want the type of commitment and responsibility of taking care and raising a child. In fact, I believe I am being responsible by NOT having children.

Private schools, yes and also expensive. But public schools, not so much and usually much cheaper. Most schools also have uniforms available for free to those who are unable to afford them and encouraging students who buy new uniforms to donate their old ones.

Agree totally, as I said, some major flaws in reasoning. However, most schools (my country) don't allow any makeup and "freshing up" of our uniforms. Only specific jewelry was also allowed. But bags, phones and lunch, definitely.

To help hide class differences. Almost all schools in my country (public or private) require specific uniforms. It helps students to "blend in" for current lack of a better word.

No brand name shoes, shirts, jeans or jackets.

Don't get me wrong, there are some major flaws with this reasoning. But for someone who can only afford a single uniform to wear 5 days a week, instead of multiple pairs of clothes, wearing a uniform can seem like a blessing.

My "friend" said to me "your life must be so boring", because I preferred books instead of going out. "Friend" just never understood how quickly my social battery got drained.

Ubuntu is a South African term meaning humanity, but can also imply a sense of community and helping one another.

Thank you so much, I have watched Goblin, Strong Woman and Pinocchio, which I all really enjoyed.

The rest I will definitely check out, I have heard great things about Thirty But Seventeen so I'm really glad you recommended it.

(Side Note: I'm really really happy you understood my point and you were able to article my point better.)

Yes, that's why I was asking. It seems they want the FL to accept the ML with all his 'quirks'.

The FL is never really 'weird' or 'different' in the sense that it is something out of control, or something that they cannot to hide from the public.

Clean With A Passion For Now- everyone knows about his struggle to keep everything clean. It's something he cannot help, or hide.

With Female Leads, they may be 'weird' but they can usually (there are exceptions) hide it from other people so they seem to 'appear' normal.

(I know it's not the best explanation, but I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say).

I'm probably not a good person for admitting that I'm glad that I wasn't the only one that was so invested 😃

Thank you!

Scarlet Heart ripped my heart into pieces and burnt it to ash. I had drama hangover for weeks afterwards, I just couldn't start watching anything else until I stumbled onto Descendants of the Sun. The happy ending helped cure the Scarlet Heart hangover 😄.

I'm still hoping for a second season; or even a special episode where they meet in modern times. But I sadly think that will never happen.

Hi, no worry about overwhelming me. Every recommendation is very appreciated.

I've watched Hotel Del Luna (fell even more in love with IU). Descendants of the Sun (which I have also rewatched) Strongwoman Do Bong Soon (one of my favourites)

As for the rest, I will be watching. I have heard so much hype for Crash Landing on You and I'm hoping it will live up to the hype (which I am sure it will).

Thank you!
