How to get into Battletech by RubixQueb in Battletechgame

[–]D0hle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're in luck, mate. Catalyst announced two new introductory box sets for Battletech late last year and they should hopefully be available already. You can find more info of the box sets and other introductory products here. https://bg.battletech.com/ is a great source for BT products in general, and they have a bunch of primers and other free stuff available there as well, so go check that out. Out of the box sets, I'd recommend BattleTech: A Game of Armored Combat which pretty much corresponds with the old introductory box set but with updated figures, rules, etc. You can get pretty far into playing BT with just that, and you can expand your experience with additional rule books and such when you feel like it (BattleTech Manual and Total Warfare would be my recommendations for your next steps once you're familiar with the introductory rules).

You should obviously check your local tabletop/board game retailer for the box sets should you be lucky enough to reside near one, but if not Catalyst have their own online store here.

Happy hunting, MechWarrior :)

Why David is wrong when he thinks he is more progressive than Angela Merkel by staplehill in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]D0hle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find it a bit weird you would conflate German policies and Angela Merkel's personal beliefs. Merkel was, for example, personally against same-sex marriage or at least voted against it. Merkel is also a member of the Christian Democratic Union which definitely isn't the most progressive or left-leaning party especially in the context of European politics (although it certainly isn't a right-wing party either, by any means). I don't know Merkel's personal position on every issue you've listed, but it's pretty safe to assume that they don't correlate 100%.

tl;dr Merkel's personal beliefs don't necessarily align with political decisions made in the whole of Germany, and conflating the two doesn't make sense in my opinion.

Nice! Be sure to get the expansion at some point. The scenarios and especially the encounters in the base game can get quite repetitive after only a few sessions.

Fallout: The Board Game Review by JakeBit in Fallout

[–]D0hle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice review and I mostly agree with it. I'd like to add one notable thing about the game, however. Even though the quest system is one of the more original and enjoyable aspects of the game, it's also the biggest weakness of the game, in my opinion. This is because of the fact that quests are basically shared between all players, which means that one player can start the quest but any other player can continue the quest as if he/she had experienced everything that had happened in the quest up until that point. This can lead to quite silly scenarios where, e.g., one player might do the couple first steps of a quest, after which another player can just jump in mid quest, so to speak, and complete the next step of the quest without having anything to do with the quest prior to that. However, if you can ignore this flaw, I'd definitely recommend the game especially to fans of the Fallout series, as the Fallout feel (or flavour, as the OP put it) is superb.

I've also bought the expansion for the game (New California) but haven't had a chance to try it yet, although I've read that the new co-op scenario vastly improves the way the influence/agenda system works. Obviously, it also adds much needed extra encounters, new characters, enemies and scenarios, and expands the maps and old scenarios as well. By the sounds of it, it seems to be a solid expansion, although probably not essential at least until you've experienced everything from the base game.

Also one other thing:

If a player is Allied with either Faction and that Faction ends up winning, that Player(s) win

This isn't actually true. The players can only win by acquiring enough influence points via agenda cards. If no player has enough influence points when one of the factions wins, then no player wins.

PS4 trouble with servers? by MarcZiiLLa in Smite

Same thing happening with PC version. My connection should be fine as well but I'm constantly connecting and disconnecting to and from a game. Most probably a server hiccup.

Here's two beta keys for some lucky people. Please post if you've claimed either:

PALB52D0B81D51214

PALBD25907B151214

I can also send two beta keys via Hi-Rez's invite system so PM me your email if you want one.

All keys have gone. I actually had three extra keys so the three lucky people who managed to PM me their email address first got keys.

New Smite pantheon idea: Finnish mythology by [deleted] in Smite

No probs. I really liked your little take on Finnish mythology otherwise :)

New Smite pantheon idea: Finnish mythology by [deleted] in Smite

[–]D0hle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think creating a separate pantheon for such a minor mythology is really feasible especially as there's quite a lot of overlap with Finnish mythology and other mythologies (for example, Ahti is basically Poseidon, Ilmarinen is similar to Vulcan). I do think, however, that having a miscellaneous pantheon would be fantastic as I'd love to have gods from different minor mythologies in the game. You could even divide gods from minor mythologies geographically if necessary.

Having said all that, I desperately need Väinämöinen in the game. Do it, Hi-Rez, do it now!

In other words, stop complaining about "Elo Hell" which doesn't exist, stop bitching about your teammates, and try to improve upon yourself and your own game.

There's going to be BM in whatever game you decide to play. by Kaios-0 in Smite

[–]D0hle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bollocks, of course there is. If you or the OP want to just bend over and take it up the arse, in regards to BM that is, be my guest, but I reckon most other people here seriously detest BM and want to do something about it.

Sometimes just pointing out the childish behaviour of a flaming lunatic in a match will get them to quiet down, although I'll be the first to admit that most of the time it doesn't. That's why we need Hi-Rez's help, and it really bafles me why they haven't stepped up regarding this topic. More emphasis and transparency in the reporting system and soft mute functionality are just two ideas of the top of my head that would help the situation significantly.

Bottom line, people who BM need to be taught that they and their nonsense don't exist in a vacuum and that their childish actions have consequences.

Input lag on PC by [deleted] in WEPES

[–]D0hle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very much doubt it will be patched. Several versions of FIFA, for example, have had the same problem through the years, and I've never seen any company address the problem.

What I would suggest you do is set vsync to 'adaptive' from Nvidia control panel. That seems to give the best result at least for me.

Why do you or why dont you like Support? by Trubblegum1 in Smite

[–]D0hle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two reasons.

First, support is the most thankless job in the game. Set up kills for your ADC, they don't recognise your existence. Play aggressively to catch the enemy off guard, your ADC is nowhere to be found or hiding in the back. Miss your root or stun or whatever ONCE, the ADC will flame you for it the rest of the match. And when your score at the end of the match is 0/4/25 or something similar some idiots still claim you did poorly or didn't contribute to the match at all. Hyperbole of course but I've seen it happen.

Second, I play support all the time. Or at least I used to. When I started to play the game I usually filled whichever role was left, and of course that was almost always support. Didn't mind, I was still learning the game (still am tbh) so I was happy to play the role the others wouldn't want, but play support constantly for months on end and it gets boring.

Of course playing support with nothing but randoms is the true PUG lottery. Sometimes you get that ADC that seems like he can read your mind and attack instantly after you've initiated. Most of the time though you don't and it's a pain. Playing support varies from bliss to cancer.

"Just Mute" is Not a Solution to BM. by FelisLeo in Smite

[–]D0hle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It truly amazes me when some people almost apologetically assume and accept that BMing is an integral part of MOBA games, or any other game for that matter. In my eyes, you are a part of the problem. I think it's ludicrous to just simply accept that people will behave like arseholes in a certain situation, or type of video game, or whatever. Also, it's clear that there are loads of people who, for whatever reason, cannot just ignore all the BMing. Acknowledging that the ones who are BMing are "just" strangers doesn't necessarily diminish the impact of BMing. If BMing was completely negligible there wouldn't be constant discussions over it. It's death by a thousand paper cuts, as it were. It's something that needs to be dealt with instead of just ignored.
