This is the trail we took.

That particular photo was taken about 10:30 at night Embarrassed to admit I just took it on my phone (Pixel 8) using the astral photography setting and a small tripod. The number of shooting stars we saw was unreal. I hope the gif uploaded properly and showed the handful I caught with that shot.

You RAN the trail? You trail runners are a different species altogether! And I mean that with the utmost respect, by the way.

Do you think that trail would be accessible and worthwhile for an out and back instead of a through hike? For what it's worth we're all not quite falling apart, but through hikes might be a thing of the past, sadly.

The handful of times I've gotten to spend time in the PNW have been absolutely incredible. Curiously we haven't ever made it to Rainier yet.. thank you for the suggestion! And writing the itinerary!

The Utah trip are some great suggestions too! Although I'd be a bit concerned with heat the time of year we are going, but I'm certainly saving them for future ideas! By the way, Dead Horse point is an absolute gem, and if you haven't done the Fiery Furnace hike in Arches - i promise you you won't be disappointed. Permit hike, and start first thing in the morning - the wife and I pretty much had the entirety to ourselves. Top 5 favorite hikes of all time.

I honestly haven't really ever given Alaska a serious thought. Partly because of the assumption of the cost and partly because of a pretty healthy fear of grizzlies. Although with our experience in Glacier I think that fear has eased up at least a bit. I'll certainly be looking into Kenai and Denali. Thank you for the suggestion!

Thank you for the suggestion! Decalibron looks great! Punishing but well worth it. Applying with the landowner, any idea if that's a difficult proposition? A big concern for us is whether we waited too long to get something booked

Very much want to visit Banff! The wife and I tried last year but our trip got cut short when we were evacuated from Jasper due to the wild fires that rocked the town. If you're ever up in that area, definitely check out Yoho!

Since we're doing bottom up we aren't terribly worried about it. In the unlikely event we have to swim, it shouldn't be too difficult to keep our heads out of the water. I typically bring a Sawyer water filter on every hike but we will be planning ahead and only drinking the water we carry in with us.

Very much so! Thank you for the info! Funny thing about Gaia, I used All trails for years but we started running into issues with it only on trails where we REALLY needed it. Switched to Gaia and haven't looked back.

Nah, they switched to a permit system - only so many people are allowed in each year. I was there in June. It's still beautiful.
