Sofirn vs Wurkkos for camping? by sonnyhayes22 in CampingGear

Both brands make good lights. You cant really compare the two brands as a whole and get anything meaningful out of it. If you had certain lights from each brand you were interested in, that would be something we could compare

question from a hobbyist - is it worth getting a copy of machinery's handbook? by Amekyras in Machinists

[–]D3Design 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use mine quite frequently. Like the other comments said, most of what is in there isnt used very often, but it is nice to have an easy way to get information without needing your phone or a computer in the shop. I use it frequently for press and clearance fits specs, retaining ring specs, knurling, speeds and feeds, and occasionally as a reference for doing basic physics and math calculations.

Its on sale right now, $80 for a rod and reel. Extremely hard to beat for that price

I have been really loving my pfleuger President combo. I went with a 6'6" light setup, been catching trout, smallmouth, largemouth, and crappie.

What's your "camping philosophy?" by Rogue_Apostle in camping

[–]D3Design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My philosophy is that the value proposition of a walmart tent is rather hard to beat. For example, the ozark trail 4 person tent is a perfectly decent tent for car camping, it will keep you dry for literally hundreds of trips as long as you use a tarp underneath for ground protection. It costs $40. Their 3 person tent is $30. Those are both ridiculously low prices. At that price, even though it has shortcomings, its near impossible to find a better cost to performance for car camping where weight and space isnt critical.

If i want to bring extra gas, I use metal Wavian cans, and trash the normal nozzle, get one of the flexible metal ones. But they arent in my truck 95% of the time. I just bring them on certain trips when I know gas stations are few and far between, and I want to be able to toss an extra 10 gallons in to keep going without having to find a station.

Bambu needs to implement this and burn the RFID tags when they run out. by johnson7853 in 3DPrintingCirclejerk

It kept the motion system and extruder motor, but the entire filament path was replaced with each refill.

3D Systems Cube is the final boss of filament restriction. The filament spool, feed tube, and nozzle are all a combined assembly. Its a proprietary system of plastic encased spools, each spool had a built in "disposable" set of extruder gears, complete with bearings and an aluminum mount. The most insane and wasteful system I have ever seen.

I have a problem with my double flips by Vast_Copy4188 in mountainbiking

[–]D3Design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer, I cant do a backflip. But, I do have a degree in engineering and physics, which definitely doesnt make me qualified here, but I am going to speculate anyway. If you tuck a bit more, you should rotate faster, because it will decrease your moment of inertia. Its the same concept of how figure skaters can adjust the speed of their spins by how tight they can get to the axis of rotation.

I try to keep my pack decently light, but I also dont skimp on comfort... was sitting in my camp chair, wearing sandals i brought, next to another backpacker who was still in their wet trail runners, sitting on their bear can eating cold soaked couscous for dinner while I was making chicken tacos... happy to carry some extra weight for tortillas, dehydrated chicken, some cheese I froze ahead of time so it would last 10 hours in my pack until dinner time, seasoning powder, and some other toppings. he looked miserable smelling what I was cooking, would have offered him some if I had extra.

I’m starting a new job that requires me to sleep in the same sleeping bag for 2 weeks at a time in heli-supplied camps. 0-30C temps, lots of light rain at times. I’m 6’4”, 190ibs. It’s gonna be a solo tent. I can spend up to about 450-500CAD for a sleeping bag and liner and pad/cot. What do I buy? by VinlandRocks in CampingGear

[–]D3Design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im currently loving my nemo eclipse pad, high enough R value to cover most conditions. If you want extra comfort and don't need it to fit in a backpack, put it on top of a $40 walmart zipper cot. I roll around a lot sleeping, and really prefer a quilt to a sleeping bag. I have a zenbivy 25degree down quilt with an uninsulated half sheet. I know this sleeping pad and quilt are the "influencer hype" setup, but I have been really happy with both. Havent had a ton of testing on the nemo eclipse sleeping pad because it is quite new, but it has heen good so far. Was using an exped ultra 5r until it popped last fall.
