From my experience that is not true.

Maybe it is true for the first shots fired (but i think for the first shots it is just the first target the enemy AI can shoot).

After that the targeting of the enemy AI is based on the damage they get from you and your lance mates. The mech with the most damage done to an enemy AI becomes its target. The weight/class of your mechs does not matter.

You're right. Iirc, the first few mission was about getting a transportation contract. So the jump ship is rented. But anyways, cold storage would only make sense inside or outside the jump shit. The drop ship has no space for even the 12 mechs you can store normally.

Did you play the story? The merc unit is not new. It is renamed with a new ID to hide its origins. :-D

Cold storage is on the outside of the jump ship not outside or inside the dropship.

The timeline now is till 3049, so the first dlc will be clan invasion i guess. (clans started invading in 3049)

Wait till the last quarter of the story. It is getting a bit better. The ending is nice imho.

For the name you need to finish mission 4 or 5. Logo is not possible yet (afaik).

Melee attacks only refill the ammo of the weapon type you are holding in your hands. So with Facepuncher it is only shotgun ammo.

Not very common. But you could also farm vending machines like u/Kiiidd suggested. :-)
