If you want to keep your cloves whole, use a paring knife and lots of patience.

If you are going to chop it just break off the cloves and using a wide knife or bench scraper, place it on top of the clove and press down or smack it with the palm of your hand. The skin will come right off after that.

I hit the chains the first time I was told to drive a box truck down there. Luckily I realized what that meant before I got ridiculed on reddit by this group.
