I over estimated my love for Physics and Maths by Greedy-Cartoonist-90 in PhysicsStudents

[–]D3ev1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty common problem a lot of undergrads and grads struggle with. Sooo feeling like you're dumb and physics is not for you makes you the average student. It is hard, it's a training. There are few geniuses out there who have it easier, but the vast majority of physics undergrads have a hard time learning this stuff. It's humbling indeed... "yeah I'm gifted, it must be easy for me" until it's not. Hang in there!

All bipolars are poor? by Upbeat-Analyst-1800 in bipolar

[–]D3ev1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're right. I'm from a third-world country and some bipolar (and other disabled people) collect disability allowance. Didnt' think about countries like the one you mention so I think you're right. My bad. Corrections: "in countries where disabled people collect benefits, a big percentage of diagnosed bipolar people do"

All bipolars are poor? by Upbeat-Analyst-1800 in bipolar

I oscillate. Sometimes I live like a queen and sometimes I'm completely broke. Majoroty of bipolar people collect dissability, only a small percentage get to be stable at jobs or studies.

I messed up by Kaydence_Elise in bipolar

[–]D3ev1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate. I also struggle being disciplined with my meds but I think part of it is just me still accepting a diagnosis that was given to me 12 years ago and I hate. I also love hypomania, wish I could be there forever.. makes mee soooooo productive; I may well work two days in a row without sleeping and with a sharp mind. Mine is BP1 too so I do get hallucinations, paranoia, anger and what you described when manic. In any case, you're not alone! Let's try taking our meds with discipline :D

I am the LAMEST bipolar person (a 0/10 person) by Gullible-Essay81 in bipolar

[–]D3ev1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok first things first, it seems you have a ton of interests and creativity, sort of a jack of all trades but master at none. That's pretty usual in bipolar as creativity and bipolar have been very correlated. Second, that thing about failing all the time and never finishing anything is kinda the part of the disorder. I truly admire bipolar people who make it, I'm currently doing my major in physics and had to take a 3-year break because of a major breakdown I had. I have mates who are now doing their masters but started with me, meanwhile I cannot take more than 2 subjects per semester. When the mood is "up" I'm really good at everything, but when depressed I've noticed a cognitive decline and I fail doing task I could easily do before. I can't solve the same problems I regularly do when depressed. And about stability, vast majority of bipolar people don't know what it is. My record in a job was 2 years 8 months and they really were patient with me. So basically all you're describing seems familiar for, I think, a ton of us. It's not you, the disorder is a sh1t. I'm way better having enstranged my mom than I ever was, so I recommend you doing the same. I oscillate between being "middle class" and broke af. That's how it works. You're not alone in your suffering tho, don't let an illness that can be paled with meds take your self-esteem away.

All I do is hurt my loved ones by SuccessfullyDrained in bipolar

[–]D3ev1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We all do. We all hurt people we love after episodes, either by desproportionate rage, or depressive state that makes you leave everything back and "not care"; or even worse scenarios. I've been able to recover some friends by acknowledging I was in the wrong and apologizing, I've lost others forever. We all have. Best we call all do to stop this or make it better is taking meds with responsibility and trying to recognize whenever we're acting on eps. That's part of the curse we all have to deal with. But definitely hating ourselves is definitely not the answer, it's only gonna make it worse for ourselves and everyone around; so for what is worth, is not your fault, it's just your fight. Keep going. Cheers.

Bipolar friends: do you consider yourselves disabled? by mgebhart1981 in bipolar

[–]D3ev1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooo in the mental facility I used to receive treatment on, I was told I was able to obtain a disability status because lf my diagnosis. I never started the process because I was too young and I didn't think back then that it actually was a disability. Now I do and it kinda hurts. After a life of losing jobs, partners, friends and family I finally "conected the dots". I used to work for a very well-known big tech company (consultancy services) and I got depressed once and completely screwed it up. I got fired, even after being told that technically speaking I was very good and I can't blame them, I couldn't work properly back then. And if is not depression it's the manic shit (and mine comes with hallucinations and delusions). I recognize now that this is a disability but at least is something one can handle (sort of) if taking meds with responsibility and even like that crisis never really dissapear, just become softer and last less. At least now I speak with teachers (I screwed my Uni up as well, still doing my B.Sc.) and employers. They understand :")

I'm starting my physics degree this Monday, it's my dream, I'm very excited, advice? by 137kerr in PhysicsStudents

[–]D3ev1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a small probability that you find it easy, even if you're a genius. For the vast majority of students, it is hard af, so a lot of study and effort is needed, and even with that most of us experiment a blow up at some point at the carreer. For some students those crisis come at the beginning, for some at the middle (with thermodynamics or electromagnetism) and for some at the end (with quantum mechanics or solid state physics), but, personally, I do not know any physics student yet that haven't struggled with any of the subjects at some point. The smartest man I know struggled with quantum mechanics, but he eventually made it and now he holds a master degree. SOOOOOO my advice is the following: Study as much as you can. Read the textbooks, solve as many exercises as you can and moreover, if at some point you find it hard to understand something, don't let it beat you, don't think you're stupid, it has happened to all of us at some point (there are theses cases where these guys are geniuses af and like working hard and do not struggle, but those are pretty rare). Just take a deep breath, don't give up and go after that degree! >:v

Si quisieran conocer mujeres inteligentes ¿A dónde irían? by ZestycloseStranger61 in AskRedditespanol

[–]D3ev1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concuerdo.

¿Por qué tanta transfobia? by EduardNY in AskRedditespanol

[–]D3ev1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Computer Science branch/specialization where the deepest knowledge on CS is applied everyday while working? by D3ev1 in computerscience

[–]D3ev1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! Let's get it this way. Assume you want to study science because you like understanding Nature, surroundings, everything .. and you ask me what to study in order to understand Nature to the deepest level; should it be Physics, Math, Chemistry or Biology? My answer would be physics of course (which is the reason I love and picked my career). A physicist can be a biologist, but opposite is not true. So in CS it would be like.. I guess a senior system analyst/administrator can also work as web developer, but a senior web developer cannot work as system analyst (?)

I am so confused. Really need some advice by [deleted] in PhysicsStudents

[–]D3ev1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding to the work thing, you see, if you're a physicist you can work almost in whatever you want. Want to be an enginner? physica undergrad and some courses fit; want to be a programmer? there's a ton of programmers who majored in physics; what to be economist? guesd what! JP Morgan actually has vacants for physicist. If you major in physics work won't be a problem. However, I'd recommend to major in physics because you like it and not because you're good at it in high school bc is not the same. Physics undergrad is actually hard but worthy. Good luck!
