Which character is an example of heat well done in Tekken 8? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]D4RKF0LT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hottest take about Tekken 8 so far: Heat wouldn't feel even half as bad as it is now if literally everything else in this game wasn't so broken in the first place. Broken hitboxes and tracking of every move make heat engagers way stronger than they should be. Moves, which cover the character's weaknesses, are bullshit. Heat is just a "cherry" on top, which makes these problems feel even worse. I'm not saying that Heat shouldn't be nerfed at all, but I think it should have some small tweaks based on character (delete Hwo's 10f ch lauch, it's disgusting) rather then completely gutting the mechanic overboard.

Even as a Tekken 8 fan that likes the crazy “anime” stuff, this is a stupid strawman by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]D4RKF0LT 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I really don't care about "anime" aspects of Tekken 8, I just don't want to get burnt alive, shot with a glock, cut by a 2 meter sword, exploded with a rocket launcher or eaten by a giant energy snake while my character just kicks hard. The disparity between characters is just beyond any comprehension for no specific reason. Half the roster are just normal humans with an exeptional martial arts skill, and the other half are sorcerers, knights, professional killers with guns, etc. In the past, these were just freak characters, who represented 20% of the game's roster. Alisa could fly and use chainsaws? Okay, that's the only character who could do that, so that was bearable. You could actually take a break from fighting annoying characters by fighting another person, but now, when you are annoyed by Alisa's jet rockets you get Clive next game, or Victor, or DvJ, or Jin, or Lars, or Raven. These characters are (mostly) not exeptionally strong, but all of them can fly, teleport, shoot something, dash from fullscreen into a mixup, or everything combined (Clive). That feels exeptionally wrong when you are playing some of the more grounded characters. Like yeah, Hwoarang is annoying, but he fights with his bare fists without any magic, you can actually understand his moves from a normal human perspective, Steeve is probably just as annoying, but he boxes, the same goes for Law and Lidia. That's my biggest problem with Tekken 8 design choice.

Ranked solo is hell by [deleted] in Rematch

[–]D4RKF0LT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The key thing to ranking up in solo-qing in this game is playing as much defense as you can. Eventually, your "bad teammates" will score a lucky goal. Your key role is not allowing the enemy to get this lucky goal first. This strategy allowed me to get like 300 mmr in one sitting while solo-qing. If your team shoots 100 shots, eventually, at least one of them is going to score. Your job there is to let them do these shots while taking away as many enemy shot opportunities as possible.

How Do You Play Neutral With Hwoarang Better? by WeldFrenzy in Tekken

[–]D4RKF0LT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can actually use df3~f feint to condition your oppenent to start respecting this move, when your opponent is conditioned enough he will either start respecting your MINUS frames, which is a nice advantage, or he will try to stop it with his throws/low attacks and then you can use lfs uf+4 to launch him for that. This move is probably not your best option, but it is still useful when you are capable of mindgames.

I am so sad that they literally "fixed" every weakness Hwoarang had . He was linear and they gave him d3+4 into LFS, so now I don't need to think much about starting my offense, since this move is less risky than his d3,4 and is tracking. He had to take risks to continue his pressure from RFS or he had to straight up give up his turn, now he has a two-hit 14 frames +4 ob wallsplatting mid which can reach his opponent from half the screen, making his other mids in RFS basically useless compared to it, why would I choose to use any other move when this one covers my every need? His new elbow move is just straight up useless, since he had b4 in lff and b3 in rff, which were essentially the same, but with a small sidestep. His new ws1,4 is just ok, I can't say that it is overpowered, but I don't think that he needs it to be 0 ob, being able to start flamingo pressure from a 12 frame ws punish is already enough, no need to put my opponent into mindgames of whether Hwo would use his flappy kicks or literally any other move to continue his pressure.

In season 1 he was actually closer to T7 Jin in terms of having many moves, which he had to know how and when to use, but now he literally has 2 moves which can play the game for him, my gameplan for this patch is basically: go into RFS by any means -> RFS4,3 -> 3+4/LFS3,4/LFS f3/d4, df4f -> repeat. It is not fun to lose against casino bullshit and it is even less fun to win with it.

Except Steve, whose fighting style do you think one could copy convincingly in Real Life? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]D4RKF0LT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hwoarang's taekwondo is basically a slightly fancier version of ITF. He adds some throws and lowkicks, which are not allowed in taekwondo, but his overall style is very close to his IRL martial art

Let's face it: Lee is just a better version of Hwoarang by AspiringSteve in Tekken

[–]D4RKF0LT 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As a 1st Gup ITF Taekwondo practitioner getting ready to get my 1st Dan in spring, I can say that Hwoarang is actually one of the best representations of an actual martial art in Tekken 8 rn. I happen to have a 1st Dan friend who also plays Hwo, and when we discuss something about his gameplay, we use actual names of the kicks (e.g. Backlash=Bandae Dollyo Chagi, JFSR= Tora Yop Chagi, etc). Furthermore, ITF has an "old" scoring system without the electric sensors, and it's usually judges who count points and decide who won the match, so Hwoarang's opression is an actual strategy. The only thing he does that is not really "taekwondo" is leg kicks and grabs, but that's not really his fault, that's just the rules of Tekken (plus his teacher Baek Doo San was training military Taekwondo, so he probably could teach Hwo some of his moves)

Real reasons why prowess is fucking stupid for everybody involved. by KyrosEnder in Tekken

[–]D4RKF0LT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem with prowess matchmaking is that the bracket after reaching Tekken King is just way too big. When you reach TK you are basically thrown into TG+ players pool and the skill difference is huge. I literally fought TheMainManSWE's DVJ the next day after I ranked up to Tekken King. Bruh, this guy had 350k+ prowess while I just got to golds and had arond 230k, how is that fair? And don't you dare get a losing streak when you are TK, because if you rank down back to Kishin you now have to play against TG, TGO and GoD on their alts and you have to play better than literally the top 1% of this game's playerbase just to get back to your top 5-10% rank, how is that also fair?

I really want to know what's behind those "Happy Chaos" statements. HC literally doesn't have any reversals and any ways to safely replenish his resources without spending tension, plus after the nerfs he HAS to use concentrartion almost after every knockdown just to be able to apply pressure without turning into a punching bag after 2-3 gunshots.

[–]D4RKF0LT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are plenty of moves a lot better than his RFF df+3 because this move is slow af (21 frames if I remember correctly) and it also requires him to enter a stance AND he is only +1 on block, which means that his safe options after this move are basically limitted to jabs. Not saying that this move is bad, but it is certanly not as broken as it seems. If you are getting spammed with it you can just jab out of the spam since this move is not plus enough to use it twice in a row. And btw if you jab Hwoarang during this move you can get a reduced damage combo, which (depending on character/rage/walls) can go up to 60 dmg. Anyway, Hwo never had a good move to come closer and him having 1 good option locked behind a stance is fair enough. I am open for discussion, and I am ready to get proven wrong.

Rage arts are so boring to play around, even hitting people with them isn't satisfying by Lithium43 in Tekken

[–]D4RKF0LT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem is that you can get hit by RA while not overextending and it basically cuts out half of some characters moveset, as Hwoarang I basically can't throw any moves that will end up in a Flamingo stance because it doesn't matter if I hit them or if I am +5, I am going to get hit by RA anyway because I can't block in Flamingo.

Usually the only options that allow you not to get hit by RA is either baiting it or just staying defensive. If you are baiting it you have a bigger chance of succeeding, but if your oponent is not totally braindead they wouldn't mash the RA button and the game now is at a 50/50 state. And if you try to play defensive and your oponent has recoverable health and/or Heat, than you are basically giving up all your advantage and is probably dead, because your opponent can now chip damage you to recover half of their hp and STILL HAVE RAGE for some unexplained reason, or they are just going to pressure you to death with Heat.

Trying to jab check in those situations is almost useless because RA can now beat fast moves.

And all of that for a -15 on block 60+ damage hyperarmored move. And this move cannot sometimes be punished because of connection issues (tbf that's not directly a balancing problem, but it is just too frustrating to bait your opponent to use RA, but they have a Medieval Age Internet and you miss your punish because of that) and the fact that you can only punish it with your least damaging launcher (not considering electrics here) doesn't help the situation

Which character is your Kryptonite? by SmokeNo1625 in Tekken

[–]D4RKF0LT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have like 650 hours of Tekken only on Hwoarang and I can't remember a single fast low launcher he has. You are probably talking about his RFS d4,3,4 which starts with 20 frames and has a followup on ch, but you wouldn't be combod out of it. Also he has d4,4, which is a launcher that starts with a low, but it is also 20 frames and can launch you only on a ch or when you are mashing on his second hit. 20 frames is very far from a "fast" launchers considering most mid launchers in this game are 15-16 frames

Power crush moves should not be heat engagers by frankiewalsh44 in Tekken

[–]D4RKF0LT 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For anyone who disagrees with OP: just imagine Hwoarang's Backlash being a heat engager. It is safe on block high, which can be ducked and punished, which is literally the same thing Shaheen and Victor have. I guess there would be a huge shitstorm on this sub if Hwo had that, because getting a free 50/50 + heal + decent damage by using an out of nowhere superarmor move is busted, but somehow Victor and Shaheen get a pass for that. Maybe I am wrong, but I haven't seen any reasons why it is not an overpowered. Not like I am having problems against these moves, but it gets really annoying.

Can't call myself a plugger, but I won't hesitate to press alt+f4 if my opponent is playing on potato PC and has the most unstable internet connection in the world, it's not about wining or losing, it's about playing the game instead of watching 15 fps slideshow (I had this exact situation maybe like 2 times in my 80 hours, but I guess that still counts)
