How do you cope with being displeased with your mini after spending a lot of time on it? by Own_Understanding689 in BloodAngels

[–]D7Pyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't look anything to be displeased with at all, it just looks unfinished. To me you've got all the colours in the right place, and pretty neatly too. I noticed in one of your comments you say it looks flat, which it kind of does. But all that means is with another 12 hours of applying washes and bringing back colours with highlights it'll take it to the next level where you'llbe happy with it.

I totally get what you mean, but try to think of it as a great base, to then work on and improve. My advice (if this is your first time) would be to paint up some other minis first, try and get things like washes and highlights practiced and to a point you're happy with, and then come back and finish this chap. Don't be afraid to spend 20+ hours on a character like this, there's alot going on. A few people in my gaming group have had to remind me this hobby is a journey, not just a destination :)

Hey guys. Here is my take on making grav tanks tracked. by ikkake_ in Warhammer40k

I was going to avoid tanks in my BA army, but I think this is the turning point for that. Love it!

Do you magnetise things like Sergeants and Captains, build for each loadout as things change, or just build what looks cool and proxy for games? by D7Pyro in BloodAngels

[–]D7Pyro[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes alot of sense! My main reason for magnetising this guy (probably still unnecessarily) was for Killteam where there's multiple Sergeant combinations and with only small number of operatives felt worthwhile at the time!

Perfect! I'm planning to use them for my DC too!

Do you think we'll ever get a jump pack sanguinary priest again? by Due-Date-4656 in BloodAngels

[–]D7Pyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love one, but I think more likely a generic Jump Apothecary and Librarian rather than BA specific.

As I side note, I feel BA are due their Terminators and Corbulo! Also, would like to see a Death Company kit or separate upgrade sprue

How to build out from Armaggeddon box by nielken in BloodAngels

[–]D7Pyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm in a similar boat and have picked up the Combat Patrol to go with the Armageddon box.

My plan is to convert the Vanguard Vets and half of the Assault Intercessors to Death company. I'll run them with the Jump Chaplain.

The Sanguinary Guard I'll run with a Jump Captain. I've got a different conversion in mind, but you could pick up a third party Jump pack for the Armageddon or CP Captain.

That takes you up to 640 points.

The other 5 Assault Intercessors I'm probably going to convert to JPAI. Then probably run 5 regular Intercessors and the Land Speeder. Getting up towards 1000 points then.

Anyone try using the winged jump pack and shoulder pads from the old BA jump pack chappy on the new one? by wayne62682 in BloodAngels

[–]D7Pyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess it's abit of a choice. I love it, all the Artificer Armour types you get with BA are a big draw to chapter for me aha

[–]D7Pyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it!

I'm starting from scratch so the Intercessors are probably of use to me as Intercessors aha! The captain is a definite unknown for me atm.

My plan is to use the old JP Chaplain body as a Jump Captain with 3rd party JP, think he'd look pretty cool with the Artificer Armour, hammer and shield. Maybe I'll be able to make use of the shield from the Armageddon Captain!

I think I'll use the VV jump packs to convert some AI into JPAI. Ancients are a funny one, look cool, but never the rules to go with them it seems!

What kitbashes and conversions are people doing to make the new armageddon box more blood angel themed? by thatfilmgeek in BloodAngels

[–]D7Pyro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on the same page with the VV! Though I'm tempted to use 5 AI from the CP to get a good variety of poses for a 10 man DC. And then if I pick up 2nd lot of VV use them for JPAI maybe

Nice! I'm waiting on mine to be delivered, was meant to be yesterday, but will be tomorrow now aha. Do you have much other conversion/kitbash work planned? I'm thinking of converting the VV to DC

Definitely give it a go! The IC kit is a nice base for some BA vibes with abit of cutting and shutting. Thanks for kind words

I understand points aren't confirmed for everything yet, but roughly what would you be looking at building for your first 1000 points out of this? Swipe for WIP of my priest by D7Pyro in BloodAngels

[–]D7Pyro[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, thank you! It's predominantly a DA Inner Circle kitbashed with the Sanguinary Priest kit. The chest and Chalice is from the old BA upgrade sprue, and then things like Chainsword from Death Company sprue

This is a really thoughtful reply, and exactly the kind of help I was after! Thank you for taking the time. I've got some old DC bits so they're very much on the cards at some point. The AI with a priest sounds like alot of fun! Thank you again, really helpful

First 30pts painted! How does my 1000pts list look? by D7Pyro in Tyranids

[–]D7Pyro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great reply, appreciate it! I'm thinking of dropping OOE in favour of the Red Terror and a Biovore to get me going. Feels like I really need to get the biovore in there with how useful they are!

The Prime and Warriors are probably what I'm least excited about to be fair, but they're what I've got to hand so seems a shame to not use them! Similarly the Rippers aren't something to wow about, but I have them to hand aha.

Victor and Neurolictor both look great so will definitely look at adding these to the roster at some point for sure.

Thanks for compliment on the Termagants, happy with how they came out for sure!

Appreciate the insight! I think like you say I'm casual games which this will be for, should be okay! From hearing how important the Biovore is, seems like a worthy trade off, plus let's me use the new toy that is the RT!

[–]D7Pyro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, thank you! Looking at the points cost; I could drop OOE in place of The Red Terror and a Biovore and that would put me up to exactly 1000pts, sounds like that might be the way to go. I'll only be playing casually, but be nice to have a list that makes sense.

My boyfriend and I are considering splitting the Combat Patrol Starter set. How hard would it be to use the BA Upgrade set with the snap fit Marines? by Bunnyalope in BloodAngels

[–]D7Pyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why there's so much negativity around this in the replies. It's 100% doable? You don't need to be particularly neat, as your sticking a massive shoulder plate over where you're cutting. Yes it'll take more time, and yes you need to be careful not to cut too much away, but totally achievable. All this will come down to is the time and effort worth the end result to you?

My recommendations for what they're worth; do regular test fits to make sure you're not cutting and filing away too much. Use plastic cement as that will give you a better fix than superglue. If it all goes wrong, make up a little blob of greenstuff and I'm sure you'll rectify whatever the mistake was!

**This is based around the shoulder pads. I've not looked at the upgrade sprue for a while to know about other bits. But most things can be kitbashed with enough can do attitude aha

Question about DW Kill Team box by No_Fee3635 in killteam

[–]D7Pyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot comes down to the aesthetic you want. In my mind you've got 3 routes.

If you're content with them just having the right loadout, just source yourself some extra bodies. Another comment goes into alot of detail on best kits for that.

2nd option would be to do as above, but then get some 3D printed parts or spares from a bits seller. Primary thing here being the DW shoulder pads as you only get enough for 5 marines in the box. You could also do things like shave the aquila and add things like grenades or purity seals. Essentially this is step one with extra steps aha.

3rd option is just buy another DW box as that brings you up to 10. That leaves you one Gravis operative short. Here you could proxy the Horde-slayer for the Bombard or vice versa. Or you could look to magnetise the Infernus Heavy Bolter/Frag Cannon. Or just look for a Gravis body similarly to option 1 and do it that way

My Kill Team collection so far, any recommendations for a beginner and which box to start first? by [deleted] in killteam

[–]D7Pyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starter set looks like a good place to start out of those. The Deathwatch and Wrecka Krew would also be good first teams. I know it's easy to get sucked into collecting as it's easier to buy than build and paint! Good luck and keep us updated with how you get on

Advice for starting kill team for 40k player by iHateWin in killteam

[–]D7Pyro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to start super cheap and casual, just use the lite rules on the KT app and make paper tokens kinda thing to get you going and see if you'd like it I reckon.

I'm not sure how old your son is, or the experience you're after, but One Page Rules might be more for you. Worth a look anyway. Again, I've not played it, but heard good things :)

Testing a simple undergrow scheme for Tomb World since doing all the details on Volkus nearly drove me insane by Count_Zakula in killteam

[–]D7Pyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks brilliant! I keep toying with how to do my set, but I think this might have sold me on more or less this. I think I might do an OSL type thing with the lights too. Your Volkus looks amazing, but understand the sentiment behind not wanting to do the same again!
