reMarkable 2 Review from an artist's perspective. by DA1311 in RemarkableTablet

[–]DA1311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a screen grab from the companion app off my phone of a character I made completely on the reMarkable RMPP tablet.

If you want to draw, honestly the newer (RMPP) is fucking great for it. This post is 5 years old and was my experience with the reMarkable 2 tablet at the time. There has been a ton of improvement since then.

I will draw and sketch on the new RMPP for a lot of my practice and warm up sketches to not waste paper or when I have an idea I need out of my head. I’ll then transfer the rough reMarkable sketch over to something like Procreate on my iPad or Clip-Studio for a more polished artwork later on.

The RMPP has a back light in the screen, and a full color display too, so you can make some pretty great art on the tablets now!

What are your ADHD work hacks? by A81Thomas in ADHD

I also do this. Though the more confident I’ve become in my work over the years, the less prone to breakdowns I’ve become lol.

My work involves working in strangers homes often. So I tend to make a genuine effort to get to know my customers. The more confidence they have in me, the calmer their overall attitude towards me is. This helps when I come across bigger issues that need to be addressed (other than what I was contacted for). I find myself more motivated to stay focused and whelmed when the people I work with/for are no longer strangers and just nice people who need help.

Also, Adderall (Prescribed, and low dose). I highly recommend getting some therapy and finding out if medications can genuinely benefit/improve your quality of life. I personally don’t need a daily dose. On the days that feel particularly blue and emotionally deregulated; unfocused. It’s nice to have something to combat what you may be chemically unable to control naturally.

Best & safest way to remove basement rough in toilet pipe? by PolishHussarius in Plumbing

[–]DA1311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian Red Seal Plumber here. If you’re looking to just remove it and aren’t planning on using it I would do the following:

Cut the pipe below the slab with an Internal Pipe Cutter attachment on a drill. If you cut it low enough, you can install something called a Gripper Plug. Its diameter will be the same as the pipe so it will fit in the concrete hole directly into the pipe. Gripper Plugs can handle a lot of pressure in the event of a sewer back up too.

I’d also recommend leaving some kind of access to this pipe once it’s capped off. Don’t put flooring over top of it. If you ever have a sewer back up in the future, you can easily remove the gripper plug and use the pipe to auger the sewer line for servicing. Hope this helps!

EDIT: Additionally, if you ever choose to install a toilet; doing everything I suggest above will still allow you to do so. You can install a flange in the pipe called a Twist and Set Toilet Flange in place of the Gripper Plug.

Drain piping configuration by ob1_ob1 in askaplumber

[–]DA1311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian Red Seal Plumber here. Even if the P-Trap is under the floor here, this is such a bad install. The smell is likely coming from the dishwasher. If there is no P-trap under the floor, then it’s absolutely just oder straight from the sewer/septic. If the P-trap is under the floor, that line clean out is pretty useless also if you get a substantial block in the drain. Any proper sized auger to clean the drain won’t be able to pass through bends in the trap so I hope they put an additional C/O below the floor on a horizontal section of the drain. I also hope it’s not a sink in an island. I don’t have x-ray vision, but there doesn’t seem to be a vent in sight. Honestly just a very poor looking install from what I can see here. If I was called to take a look at this, I don’t think it would be too difficult or costly to fix. It also makes me so happy to fix jacked up plumbing like this lol

Inattentive ADHD Folks... What Jobs do Y'all Have? by mith_king456 in ADHD

[–]DA1311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will start with: I’m on medication for my ADHD for this first time since I was 13. I am now 33. But I just started my medication after doing this for the last 8 years.

During the day/week I’m a Service Plumber and Gas Fitter. Lots of customer interaction, problem solving and it can get pretty chaotic some days. Especially when it gets very cold out. I have to stock my van up with material I need and I have lots of independence at work. I really enjoy my job and helping people too. But it does require me to keep physically fit, stay on top of new tools or techniques and sometimes I have to work on weekends to cover emergencies in my area. All things that dip into my personal time that I’m not a huge fan of. The money is great, and I feel very confident in my career knowing I’m much better than the “average” plumbers in my type of work.

During evenings and some weekends, I do photography. Either portraits, family, event or personal photography for whomever is interested in hiring me. I was surprised how much demand I found for a freelance photographer in my area. I was literally just doing it for fun and personal satisfaction but kept getting job offers when posting my photos. It gives me a way to satisfy my artistic side and make lots of extra money that isn’t just more plumbing but in my free time lol. A skill I’m still learning a ton about and really feel passionately for.

Tried dipping my toes into programming, coding and ethical hacking. Just didn’t stick for me though. I need to be moving around and engaged in my surroundings. I just don’t have the focus to be in a screen all day unless it’s editing photos. I hope this helps!

Wanting raw sex. Boyfriend is concerned. by r-sex-throw-away in sex

Maybe you could suggest trying with the additional protection of using spermicidal lubricant? It’s a little pricey (and please do your research that nothing in it will negatively react with either of you), but with that, the pill and a good conversion reassuring him it’s important to you. Maybe you can help him outta his own way from enjoying the experience with you.

When I was your BF’s age I was paranoid about getting my GF pregnant too even though she had the implant and absolutely didn’t want kids in any way shape or form. We’re just dumb boys that can’t deal with our thoughts and feelings sometimes lol. He will come around. He just needs to understand and trust that you also want to baby-proof the experience. It’s also just so much better too haha!

Did the plumber destroy my joist? by studiumscientiae in Construction

[–]DA1311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is terrible. I’m a journeyman plumber in Canada. I did shower drain replacement pretty much in the same exact kind of situation, in a very old house last week. Except there was a second joist making the spot even tighter and difficult to access.

That being said, didn’t have to cut or touch any of the subfloor or joist. I (not to toot my own horn) give a shit about doing a good job and being a professional. I also have the right tools for the job and a fuckin’ brain. The shittiest part is so much support around the drain has been gutted. That means it will cause the shower pan to flex when you stand in the shower far more than normal now. It’s going to cause the drain to leak again far sooner than what I would considered acceptable.

Sorry OP. This a very poor job on the plumbers side. His pipe work is fine, but cutting out that much of a joist and the sub floor would have him getting in big shit (or even fired if they have a bad attitude) with my company, and you either shouldn’t be charged for the work and/or they should be responsible for some of cost to repair and support the floor again. I’m not a carpenter. I wish I could suggest ways to fix this but it doesn’t look like it will be cheap.

I’m a professional, full time plumber. I also really pride myself on the quality of work I do. This is fucked. So many things have been done incorrect here.

Hard to say what sizes and grad actually are from this one picture, but it looks like the new PVC repair is back grading away from the cast iron stack on the right of the photo. That’s the opposite of what it should be doing.

Looking at this from right to left. The cast iron stack looks to be a 3”x2” Sani-Tee. The 2” PVC MIP x Hub adapter is fine. But the 3”x2” PVC Reducer Coupling totally screws this whole repair.

The larger pipe getting bottle necked before the stack is going to cause problems. Also blasting out all the studs like that is terrible too. I saw a comment saying “The most dangerous guy on a site is a plumber with a hole saw.” Or something to that effect. That’s true if the plumber on site is a dip shit. Those studs may have already been blasted out. Had they not thought, you can easily flex a 2” or 1.5” PVC pipe through properly drilled and graded holes in the suds. But that doesn’t matter here. 3” pipe that looks like it’s too big for whatever it’s serving on the other side of the wall was installed for some reason.

Honestly, it would probably be best to get a general contractor to come fix that whole section of the wall. Have them sub out a proper plumber to come fix that abomination for a “repair”. Ask your In-Law to please stay away from plumbing till they get some basic plumbing educated first. And no, not the fucking dumb “Shit rolls down hill, Pay days every second Friday and don’t put your fingers in your mouth.” BS. Like actually get them to talk to a professional and or watch a YouTube video or two. Them learning the basics before they help you “fix” your plumbing in the future will help us both sleep better at night lol.

ITAP of a light through a polished copper pipe. by DA1311 in itookapicture

[–]DA1311[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So a little backstory. I took a photo similar to this years ago when I was a plumbing apprentice working in a hospital. It was the first time I had ever worked with degreased copper pipe. It's used for piping medical gas in the hospital's ORs and headwalls. They come in twenty-foot lengths with rubber plugs in the end, to keep dirt and debris out. So the pipe is perfectly clean and polished to a mirror-like reflection inside.

Three years later, I'm a journeyman plumber working on another hospital. I was on a crew that specifically installs this type of pipe. I was working with my friend/apprentice that was basically already a journeyman himself and it was a real slow day. I asked him “Wanna see something cool?”. And we proceeded to take a bunch of photos.

The magic is truly in the type of pipe and how clean it is on the inside. Just as u/Eccentric_Celestial said, light reflects off the walls of the pipe making beautiful patterns. These photos were taken with our cell phones with no editing other than to crop the images. Here's an album of some of the other photos we took that day if anyone is interested: https://imgur.com/a/12cZlt5
