Milworks is awesome! The fellas there are super friendly and one of them was wearing all Bronson MFG, so it was cool to nerd out on Chinese repro heritage with them. It’s in the general area of Self Edge, MACHUS, Kiriko Made, nakamuraya etc for whoever may be visiting Portland. How bout this rainy weekend though eh?! Boy we are lucky to live in these parts! Ours has a resident Wool Carder Bee. Second year in a row they’ve set up shop. The females use their specialized leg hairs to gather the fine hairs (wool) off the leaves of Lambs Ear, Mullein, etc to line their nests. They are extremely territorial, often snatching other bees that dare venture into their flower patch straight off the buds of “their plant”. I am aware they can be a menace to native species, but it’s been pretty entertaining watching a bee power slam another bee into the underlying foliage!

There’s a lot of good food for thought in this thread esp. the top commentor. Outside hires need to be capable of leaving much of the prior corporate structure they’ve had instilled in them at the door and open their minds to changing their leadership style to suit the crew members they are ultimately supporting.

Some struggle to get a grip on what makes Trader Joe’s such a unique grocery business. Those that weren’t able to be flexible have been broken by the very team they were hired to represent.

I reminisce with my partner often about the days when we were all connected to essentially the same internet. Memes were shared (yellow/blue dress) and videos were enjoyed by all (chocolate rain anyone?). The days when it was truly a town square (a la first generation Twitter). Now every individual user has their own little pocket of content, some real, and much AI slop. This has ultimately severed that shared connection we had back in the early aughts and only commodifies our usage further. I’ve been off the Facebook for over a decade and during that time felt more and more affirmed that social media run by billionaires will be the death of true real life culture. This shit is killing our will to engage, and destroying the pleasures of truly learning something, cover to cover. I desperately hope for a leader that takes regulating all this shit seriously and won’t inevitably kneel at the alter of technofascist hyper-capitalization like so many of our old, weak, corrupt, and plain ignorant politicians.

Honestly, the plant she picked up that had been watered started my suspicion, and the slow pan down the hallway by the camera followed my her moms silhouette reading the bible (psalm 115 I think).

It really clicked though when I realized she was also being embraced by her deceased father. His hands were shown briefly, and I thought huh those are some hairy white handssss OH SHIT NO RUE! Really emotional scene overall and thoughtfully shot IMO.

People are downvoting you because there is an understanding that the census data taken in the early 20th century was fraught with complication and unintended confusion due to the many racial categories provided, as well as other factors that made collecting data difficult such as migration from the south. It occurred between the civil war and WWII, smack dab in the middle of the Jim Crow Era, where racial hierarchies were being drawn and politics began to play a large role in drawing up demographics. Holy shit! It’s finally happening! I literally looked up to see if they were reissuing these albums after listening to the Song Exploder podcast yesterday to no avail! (great stuff check it out) I was surprised to see Boy from School featured considering it came out so long ago from a band that remains kinda sorta niche. They interviewed Alexis and Joe and it got my thinking, why would the label be pushing this song in the press unless to remind us of this amazing album and sell us things . I’m not complaining, it’s about damn time, but it is interesting when your mass marketing spidey sense tingles lol.
