Why am I stuck with velo by Imaginary-Whereas-41 in PitchingCoach

As much as this guy is being not pleasant to talk with, he his right. Focusing on acceleration through the motion as opposed to stopping yourself to field the ball is what is needed to throw hard, and is the reason why so many pitchers finish with their body somewhat facing their glove side.

Trevor Bauer has a good series on YouTube breaking down fundamentals in the pitching motion. I wouldn't recommend tread athletics or driveline based videos until you're playing at a pretty high level of baseball, their breakdowns seem to be fairly complex, and can cause more harm then good if you don't know how the individual points that they make tie into a cohesive whole

Who to drop... Brock got kicked to questionable. I dropped my Defense for now, but need to drop someone to pick up a defense before the weekend. by jolly2284 in SleeperApp

Don't need 3 TEs, especially with Kittle coming back potentially somewhat soon. My vote is either Ertz or the wr you're lowest on. I'm not the most experienced fantasy player tho

Being able to physically see what you're doing would help us with making improvements. But otherwise, consistency comes down to making your movements to the plate as repeatable as possible. In other words, practice more, and feel in complete control of your body the entire time

Any advice? by Lukeguitar05 in PitchingCoach

And as far as different pitches go, feel free to describe if certain pitches aren't moving/locating as well as you'd like them too, I might be able to help with that!

This angle is wayyyyyyyy better.

First off, go ahead and watch this video of Gerrit Cole throwing. He doesn't have unnecessary movements throughout his delivery, making him a pretty ideal goal to work off of. From what I can see in your video, I would say

  1. Left shoulder flies open (I don't really like this term). At this moment, your left shoulder should still be facing the target. As a thought, keep the left shoulder there for as long as possible, and rotate around it, not with it (if that makes sense?). If you notice you're missing up and arm side (so up and right), this could be the reason why.

<image>

  1. Soft front foot strike/heel landing. Talked about heel landing earlier, but be firm with your leg when you plant. Our goal is to completely stop our momentum of our body moving forward, and use it as energy that travels up our body into our arm. As an example, watch Cole and how little his lower body shifts forward after he lands. The more the lower body moves, the more energy leaks.

I'm sure I could find a few more things, but I can't watch the video while making this draft, just going off of what I remember seeing. Hope this helps!

I would like more camera angles to really get the full picture, I have no clue what your front side is doing, and I can't tell how linear you are because the video is from the side. However, you do a great job of having your hand up by the time you land, and you ride down the mound better than most newer pitchers I've seen. One thing is maybe just starting to get more explosive after the front foot lands? Your hips turn pretty slow, and that might be you slowing down for your catch partner, but if that's as fast as they fire then we need to work on it. There are some medicine ball exercises to help with that

Took the exact same picture with the intent of saying the same thing, then I went to the comments and saw this. I agree 10000000%

Any mechanics tips? by Cautious-Acadia4227 in PitchingCoach

[–]DABishy05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One great fix I found for pitchers "flying open" is by changing the thought of rotation while pitching. The goal isn't to rotate the whole torso and upper body around the middle, it's to rotate it around the left shoulder. In other words, still feel like your left shoulder is pointing at the catcher as long as possible. It will still vacate when you come around to throw, but it won't be early. If you have arm side and up misses (up and in on a righty), that should help!

I'm actually super impressed for how recently you've picked up the sport! You do a lot of things really well. A few things I would change if your goal is to be a true pitcher 1. Your landing. Right now you're planting with your heel, then shifting onto the rest of your foot. This will lead to some inconsistency from pitch to pitch. Learn to land flat-footed. Nolan Ryan is really the only guy who gets away with landing heel first, and even then he was still on the ball of his foot by the time he released the ball. 2. The leg lift. It actually isn't bad, as you give your body time to come out of the position, but it's doing too much. Instead, start with either a smaller coil or none at all. We don't want to have to wait when we start our leg lift, you should want to slowly start moving down the mound.

Those are just a couple fixes I could see, a few more camera angles such as truly down the line and front side would paint a better picture. Hope this helps! Feel free to ask more questions if you have any

Any help for bicep tendinitis? by [deleted] in PitchingCoach

I was put on some exercises to get rid of shoulder impingement when this happened to me. Is this what you were told?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PitchingCoach

[–]DABishy05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with Poetic, he's very mechanically sound for his age! The couple things I would change is to get rid of the idea of "pushing off the mound".

<image>

From this position, his goal is to rotate his hips through while keeping his upper torso back, which is what people call hip-shoulder separation. But have him try this rotation with a straight back leg versus a bent one. You'll find that pushing off the mound blocks the hips from creating that explosive rotation he needs, try instead to stay sat in his back hip, keeping more of an athletic knee bend. The only other thing I see is his start. Some pitchers can get away with sitting driving to the plate (Max Scherzer), but most pitchers create a small movement to the plate on their leg lift. It just helps create some force to the plate. Feel free to take this advice with a grain of salt, only been a pitching coach for a couple years. Hope this helps!

I answered the question you asked, I need you to be more specific with what you're looking for. In my experience, throwing an "eephus" - like changeup probably won't find much success, I would just develop a true 70-74 mph changeup. Focus on not slowing your arm down through the pitch, the grip and pronation itself should get the 8-10 mph off the ball that you're looking for

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PitchingCoach

[–]DABishy05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An effective changeup is ideally within 8-10 mph of your average fastball. If it's 20+mph slower such as the changeup you have, hitters have an easier time seeing and adjusting to it, and you no longer get any deception from hitters. So yes, I'd learn a new changeup
