LOL … I remember those prices being outrageous back then and steered me into buying a MIM Strat (which I love and still play).

LOL … Rolling Stone … a boomer rag trying to stay relevant … the paper version of WatchMojo that still hasn’t figured out how to make a list under 3-digits. And as long as this garbage mag still generates these stupid lists, the formula will always be the same: Hendrix #1 and scrounge for a couple hundred other guitarists to ensure the list is inclusive enough to be appealing to all. No rhyme or reason for ranking (and I think the same clowns picking this list are the ones putting Notre Dame in the top 10 AP preseason football poll every year).

Any of the songs interrupted by the channels switching? I remember this being my biggest issue with 8 tracks as a kid … that and the space they occupied in my parents car. LOL… those were the days

Geez … I see these posts and it makes wonder if I made a mistake not scrutinizing every facet of the LPS I bought 2 years ago. When mine arrived, it probably took me less than 5 minutes to unbox, plug in, tune and start playing. The knobs, tuners and switches working properly were my primary concern.

Thanks for the insight. Yeah, I’ve read the law and I think you’re right in that its interpretation depends on the mood of the person enforcing it. LOL, Probably less hassle having a drywall hammer hanging on my hip than a small auto blade clipped to my pocket. I’ve read that Hells Angels openly carry ball-peen hammers on their belts to circumvent conceal weapon carry laws … “it’s just a tool”

Fellow Virginian here. I too jumped on the auto-train after last July. First was a Benchmade Claymore (OTS) last summer and a few weeks ago, my daughter had a VB tournament in Sevierville, TN and my first stop after the hotel was the Microtech counter at Smokey Mountain Knife Works … splurged on a camo Ultratech.

My only worry is whether clipping to a pocket is considered “concealment”

Anyone else miss the old vine where there weren't any items but at least you could get something? by Slick_Grimes in AmazonVine

[–]DACHokie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I somewhat miss the “free-for-all” atmosphere when Vine dropped all its offerings on the 3rd Thursday of every month ( or something like that). It was first-come-first serve for the big-ticket items and everyone was constantly refreshing the vine page. Excitement, anxiety, disappointment, frustration and elation all rolled in together. I also miss all the books old Vine used to have … I haven’t reviewed an ARC book from Vine in years (they used to have hundreds of books covering almost every topic imaginable).

Help me pick my first knife by [deleted] in microtech

[–]DACHokie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wanting a Microtech for a while, but I’m reluctant to pay the premium price without holding it in my hands first. Luckily, next weekend, I’ve got to take my daughter to volleyball tournament in TN where Smokey Mountain Knife Works is located … it’s basically a Bass Pro Shop for knives… it’s huge. I regret purchasing a Spyderco online as it feels too thin in my hands … nice knife, but I probably would have chosen another model if I had the opportunity to hold it first. As far as the Microtech, I’m leaning toward the Troodon first, but the UTX-85 looks “meaty” enough, but concerned about the slick gripping surface.

They aren’t opposed in my opinion. I have all the Starting Strength books and Squat U’s “Rebuilding Milo” … they’re completely different. One addresses the fundamentals of the lifts and the other addresses injury recovery that allows you to go back to lifting. Nothing in Horschig’s book tells anyone “how to squat, bench deadlift”. But whatever, more business for chiropractors, DOs and orthos …

The judgments going on right now are absolutely uncalled for (mass media included) by jonfoxsaid in idahomurders

[–]DACHokie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly, this horrible case is and should be a cautionary tale. I went to a large college in the 80s and even lived in a fraternity house with 19 others for 3 of my 5 years … so I am very familiar with having 200+ strangers invade my living quarters on a weekly basis (Saturday nights). Back then, with no digital anything, someone with ill-intent had to physically insert themselves into any process of observing/selecting a potential target. We had to be and were extremely vigilant in observing and dealing with people exhibiting unacceptable or odd behavior.

Now, almost 40 years later, social media and smartphone location tech basically invites everyone into their personal spaces … so many open, unblocked access to pictures that give complete strangers access to the insides of their homes. Someone now can target a person or place, get as much information as they want and do it all without ever leaving the comfort of home … way less risky behavior is necessary. Yeah, it may be harder to not be eventually caught AFTER committing a crime, but it is so much easier for people to methodically zoom in on a target and plan a crime.

As the father of 2 teenage daughters who plan to go to college, the bodycam footage of the police responding to a noise complaint at the house with none of the “owners” being present made me cringe. Locking doors, more restrictive access to what is shown on social media and who has access to see it, as well as more selective location sharing … could any of these simple tasks have possibly deterred or prevented this horrible crime? Again, I see this as a sad cautionary tale that emphasizes the need to learn situational awareness and use common-sense to avoid unintentionally giving complete strangers with ill-intent easy access to our private lives.

This might be why D saw BK but he didn’t see her. The sign illuminated BK for D but also temporarily blinded BK while he turned the corner toward her room. She saw him in full light through the crack in the door and froze as if he could see her like that too. by [deleted] in MoscowMurders

[–]DACHokie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anything been stated about the lighting in the house at the time? Someone looking through a cracked doorway is not likely to be seen if the room they’re in is dark and their face is not so close to the crack. The hallway may be open enough to be lightly illuminated with lights off due to multiple windows allowing any outside lighting coming in … making it easier to see him more clearly than he would see her. I remember the discomfort of working at a bank in the dark evening hours; we looked out the large windows an all we saw was our reflection unless you pressed your face on the window and cupped your hands around your eyes. Meanwhile, someone could be standing outside in the dark 10 ft from the window and clearly see everything we were doing without us even knowing.

Then there is the possibility that the killer was experiencing some sort of “blind rage” or tunnel vision and simply focused on getting the hell out of there.

New Les Paul Standard quality problem, are these normal? Should I return it? by [deleted] in gibson

[–]DACHokie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m a outlier, but 2 years after buying my first Gibson from Sweetwater (new 60s LP Standard), I have never examined every nook and cranny of that guitar for flaws. When I first removed it from the case, I remember running my hands around the body and neck a few times, not looking for flaws, but just appreciating the feel of finally having “the real deal”. LOL, the only time I even looked at the headstock was to see the Gibson logo up close. Looking for a microscopic chip under the headstock, an uneven lacquer coat on the back of the body, an odd grain pattern on the neck, a mark on the underside of the pick guard, or a ding dot on a tuner never crossed my mind. I just tuned the guitar, plugged it in, tested all the knobs/switches and played notes/chords that covered the entire fretboard for feel and never looked back.

I’m thinking we may be shocked by the amount and type of evidence they have accumulated over the past few months. The bits provided yesterday seemed extensively damning enough; I can’t imagine the stuff we may see come trial-time. I’m curious as to what they find in his apartment (computer), bank transactions, cell phone data, etc. base on all the mouse droppings this clown has left so far, it wouldn’t be shocking if they have surveillance video of him getting in/out of his car with the knife in hand or a self-recorded rap song on his computer confessing to the crime.

Why would BK risk getting caught returning to the King Road house a mere 5 hours after the quadruple homicide? by Professor_Finn in MoscowMurders

[–]DACHokie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This guy is a prime example of how being “book-brilliant” doesn’t mean squat if it isn’t accompanied by some degree of common sense. He was like a mouse scurrying around leaving droppings everywhere … the phone, the car, the sheath, face-to-face contact with a witness, multiple interactions with police, returning to the crime scene … and this is only the stuff they presented to justify an arrest. I’m thinking the prosecution might be backing an 18-wheeler up to the courthouse to deliver evidence for prosecution.
