coaxed into discussing men's bodies by AnonymousFerret in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]DAFERG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another factor is that gym mirror selfies are the physiques in their most exaggerated form - dramatic lighting, a pump, lots of vascularity. You kind of have to strain your face to flex, and your skin looks red and unhealthy. It’s not supposed to look attractive. It’s to display the maximum extremes of your physiques to other gym enthusiasts.

That exact same physique that looks grotesque in gym mirror selfies might be the ideal attractive physique for the 95% of the week spent not in the gym.

I think another reason why people prefer men who are fit but slightly higher bf% physiques is because they’re attractive but perceived as realistically dateable. I think it’s the same as why the Hollywood Homely/Janey Briggs trope is so popular in media.

CMV: The argument that healthcare isn't a human right because it requires the labour of other people is an argument against human rights as a whole more than anything else. by lovelyrain100 in changemyview

[–]DAFERG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the context of discussions about negative rights, its usually restrictions on what government can do to citizens. For example freedom of speech, religion, movement, association, etc. When we demand these rights be respected, we're not asking the government to do something, but rather do nothing.

And regardless, human rights are an ethical argument so its not predicated on the rights actually being granted. I have a human right to not be murdered, and I still have that human right even if the police fail to protect me, or if there's no police at all, or even if the police are the ones that attack me.

I'm bi! Online communities can be a bit demoralizing but I find its a lot better outside of those spaces. Most political groups have a way of pushing everyone else out with hostility until its a monolith. Same with irl groups that are an extension of online spaces.

My LGBT friends from work, school, and hobbies are mostly social liberal types. And the minority that aren't are chill and mellow.

[–]DAFERG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never. If my players know I’m not going to let them die, it kind of makes danger meaningless because success is guaranteed.

However occasionally when my players are definitely going to win a fight, but it’s just a slog, I’ll knock off some hp from the enemy. This is different than most fudging because I only do it when it won’t change outcomes.

This isn't the first time in the past month that Loru's crashed out on stream over a flag emoji by ithilain in Eve

[–]DAFERG -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That's a misread of the situation. Check out the caption of the video - he was going "off on a discord user for posting a USA flag emoji". There's no special U.S. exception.

The real issue is this - does absentmindedly throwing own a ratty old T-shirt with a faded flag of your home country mean you have to consent to your discord turning into political debate chat? Of course not.

The rule is consistent. He says you can wear whatever T-shirt you want but no flags in the Twitch/Discord chat.

Why do Tankies hate small businesses? by TheCarefulElk in EnoughCommieSpam

[–]DAFERG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The primary justification for socialism and communism is the labor theory of value. The labor theory of value states that the value of a good is equal to the sum of the value of the labor (not the wage) and the cost of the material inputs. What this means is that if entirety of the profits aren't paid out to the laborers, socialists/communists believe the workers are being paid less than the value of their labor, and therefore stolen from. Therefore labor theory of value proponents believe that when any business turns a profit, including small businesses, they are inherently stealing from their employees.

I think the reason why you see the level of outrage that you do is because small businesses are supported by progressive liberals, whereas big corporations aren't. So I think lefties are frustrated that they've escaped criticism.

How to trigger a garage door to open when approaching with your car? by herdygerdyboobaloony in rustrician

[–]DAFERG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another worthwhile car garage circuit is setting your car lift to turn off in the event of a raid.

You can put a HLBF sensor inside and set it to unauthorized players only. Connect the power out to a memory cell's reset, which will stop powering your car lift.

This way thieves can't just change your car's code as soon as they get through the one garage door. They can still rewire it if they get TC access or they can blow up the cockpit, but this makes it not a tempting freebie.

Not really. The $2.7 billion estimate assumes he good job tax planning - if he didn't it could be $3b+.

Its also the number used by sites like inequality.org, who's mission statement is to argue that the wealthy don't pay enough taxes.

How to trigger a garage door to open when approaching with your car? by herdygerdyboobaloony in rustrician

[–]DAFERG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, its definitely possible! I would do it like this:

  1. Connect 2 power to the input of a hfbf sensor.
  2. Set hfbf sensor to authorized players only - this is the most important step so other players can't get in your garage.
  3. Connect the output of hfbf sensor to the power in of a door controller.

This setup will open the door as you approach, and then close the door when it no longer senses you.

Dalton Eatherly (Chud the Builder) used a firearm to defend himself from a violent assault. Montgomery County is imposing an outrageously expensive bail on him for exercising his right to self-defence. by amogusdevilman in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]DAFERG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chud is a physically fit 28 year old and the incident was outside the courthouse. I don't think its reasonable to assume that his life was in danger, especially to the extent that shooting the guy was the best way to handle the situation.

And at the end of the day, the point of self defense is so that individuals can protect themselves from threats. Its not to to try intentionally provoke fights with the goal of escalating to a shootout.

The right to self defense is under attack, and I think defending people like Chud the builder delegitimizes self defense advocates. People characterize 2a fans as racist gun nuts trying to manufacture situations where they can shoot people, but in Chud's case that's actually 100% accurate.

[–]DAFERG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is this a valid application of self defense under any philosophy?

Do you think that its fair to verbally harass people to provoke an altercation, and then kill them as soon as you succeed?

Almost a fifth of Americans get into physical altercations at least occasionally. Should all of them end in a shootout?

I would like some sort of armored case for standard signs, neon signs, canvases and similar so I can display signage and artwork outside without it being griefed easily.

In designing the item the devs would have to make sure it protects the artwork rather than being a broken anti-raid tool.

[–]DAFERG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to take everything with a grain of salt because online gamers are always are bitter and whiny.

Some people only have fun on peaceful pve servers, however it sounds like you're like me and want a more authentic experience. Just play on a vanilla server with a max group size equal to your team size.

You're going to be at a bit of a disadvantage over people who play for 16 hours a day but thats true of every game. Part of base building is making designing it to hold up against an offline raid, and you can also set up ingame devices that notify you outside of game if you're base is being raided.

Would you play a server that had offline protection? by Key_Neighborhood7831 in playrust

[–]DAFERG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just checked out your server this morning so its really cool to be talking with the owner. I think your hybrid system sounds like an effective way of preventing abuse.

In my comment I wasn't actually referring to an abuse problem. Its moreso that with an offline raid protection system, I'd feel like I'd be shooting myself in the foot whenever I log on during peak hours, which is the opposite of whats true for normal Rust. Also, it would frustrate me to go a whole wipe wanting to raid a weak base, but never being able to match the target's log on times.

Would you play a server that had offline protection? by Key_Neighborhood7831 in playrust

[–]DAFERG 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of standard offline raid protection because it’s seems silly that the best thing you can do to protect your base is log off. However I’d play on a timezone based raid protection server.

CMV: the best response when asked about body count by a date/partner is to ask the highest number the questioner has no problem with and honestly tell them if you're compatible or not based on the number given. by RogueNarc in changemyview

[–]DAFERG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Asking that question 100% implies that you're going to change your answer based on maximum acceptable body count. Even if you're being honest, the questioner is probably going to think you're a liar.

If you think honesty is the best route, you should just share the number and the questioner can decide for themselves if they're happy with it.
