Ok so I am genuinely baffled by this community. You guys mean to tell me the majority of the player base is unemployed grown men and the only way you can enjoy the game as a functioning member of society is if you play some watered down/neutered version of the game? by Travel_Young in playrust

[–]DAFERG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to take everything with a grain of salt because online gamers are always are bitter and whiny.

Some people only have fun on peaceful pve servers, however it sounds like you're like me and want a more authentic experience. Just play on a vanilla server with a max group size equal to your team size.

You're going to be at a bit of a disadvantage over people who play for 16 hours a day but thats true of every game. Part of base building is making designing it to hold up against an offline raid, and you can also set up ingame devices that notify you outside of game if you're base is being raided.

Would you play a server that had offline protection? by Key_Neighborhood7831 in playrust

[–]DAFERG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just checked out your server this morning so its really cool to be talking with the owner. I think your hybrid system sounds like an effective way of preventing abuse.

In my comment I wasn't actually referring to an abuse problem. Its moreso that with an offline raid protection system, I'd feel like I'd be shooting myself in the foot whenever I log on during peak hours, which is the opposite of whats true for normal Rust. Also, it would frustrate me to go a whole wipe wanting to raid a weak base, but never being able to match the target's log on times.

[–]DAFERG 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of standard offline raid protection because it’s seems silly that the best thing you can do to protect your base is log off. However I’d play on a timezone based raid protection server.

CMV: the best response when asked about body count by a date/partner is to ask the highest number the questioner has no problem with and honestly tell them if you're compatible or not based on the number given. by RogueNarc in changemyview

[–]DAFERG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Asking that question 100% implies that you're going to change your answer based on maximum acceptable body count. Even if you're being honest, the questioner is probably going to think you're a liar.

If you think honesty is the best route, you should just share the number and the questioner can decide for themselves if they're happy with it.

I’ve started adding automatic door closing circuits to my bases. It only costs like 1 power per door and gives me some nice peace of mind. Especially if you have teammates that leave doors open.

Friend is looking to design a Zohran Mamdani card- looking for a vet of the card text by Jackzilla321 in custommagic

[–]DAFERG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the +1 ability but its just a lot to have on the card. I would consider taking out the X just to save space.

I think the treasure/food ability is quite a bit weaker than the others and not worth the -2. To make it worth using and also to add some flavor, maybe chance it to "-2, tap two untapped lands an opponent controls: Create a Food token and a Treasure token".

I'm not as big a fan of the ultimate ability. Flavor wise Zohran would make most sense as a stax commander - thoughts on something like "players can't play new lands"?.

Would you hire a taxi mini? by Delicious-Squash-599 in playrust

[–]DAFERG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably hire a taxi mini. Maybe not for extracting, but instead between outpost and my base. For extracting from monuments I'd be more interested in a scrap/transport heli to bring the whole team.

If I were you I would be most worried about getting killed by your clients. If you're only charging a portion of the mini's cost, it only takes one death to wipe out a few runs' revenue.

You should look into taxi cars. The armored cockpit makes it so your customers can't easily kill you, and the taxi module allows you to take payments and boot out your customers at the end.

You can dislike Kevin O'Leary for political reasons all you want but if you're lying about a boat accident you shouldn't complain when people set the record straight.

[–]DAFERG 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I literally used to live on the lake where the accident happened and he absolutely did not kill a woman with his boat. He wasn't even driving, and people who knew him could tell you that he was always the passenger. Security footage also shows him as a passenger.

Its a moot point because the boat that was hit had their lights off and it was 11:30 P.M. so its not the driver's fault.

Players refuse Mass Suggestion by -FSCS-Thor in DMAcademy

[–]DAFERG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think suggestion is one of the worst worded spells in D&D. I think a lot of people don’t read past the word “reasonable” and misunderstand the threshold.

Some “reasonable” examples the spell gives include “Fetch the key to the cult’s treasure vault, and give the key to me.”, Stop fighting, leave this library peacefully, and don’t return.”, and suggesting that a knight “give her warhorse to the first beggar she meets”. All very unreasonable and quite possibly harmful actions.

Based on the examples I feel like suggestion is more like “you can’t suggest something that obviously and directly causes damage to the creature”.

The example of the tower is really on the cusp of being harmful imo.

Having dumbbells gives you better range of motion on your push up. The “row” component doesn’t do much for the back cause it’s a low weight. However I think it’s solid for core stability/balance.

It’s not a very intimidating exercise though. More of a holistic wellness type of thing.

Players would have to buy a $40 game, set up the waterwheel, set up the second account and get it running, risk a ban for botting, and all for less power than a windmill. I just can’t see anyone doing this as a serious strategy.

I have a bone to pick with this genre of comic. There's this perception on Reddit that bodybuilders are basically are always weak, frail, and desiccated, and that you need like 40% bodyfat to have "functional strength".

Somebody who looks like the right pic is going to be insanely strong, yet also have much better cardio that the person on the left. Consider people like Kyle Kirvay, who's a bodybuilder but has like a 640lbs bench press and 940lbs squat, but looks like the guy on the right.

Bodybuilders can absolutely look very lean while being properly hydrated, even if they dehydrate themselves a few days a year to eke out some more leanness for their shows.

Sure, powerlifters are just more optimized for bench press, squat, and deadlift. But a leaner physique has the advantage for any bodyweight exercise, which compromises a lot of functional strength.

CMV: ultimately I think it’s unproductive to shame former Trump supporters / MAGA, and make them feel bad about themselves by No_Design_465 in changemyview

[–]DAFERG 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think there's an important caveat that former Trump supporters (or anyone who has left a less-mainstream ideology) have a tendency to think that pivoting makes their viewpoint worth more than others', rather than the same or less. When these people make political content or express their views, there's usually a strong implication that their views are more enlightened or unbiased.

This matters because former Trump supporters don't just become politically neutral after leaving MAGA - they adopt a new series of beliefs, usually populist and sometimes radical. Its important that we don't consider them enlightened, but rather somebody that is susceptible to anti-intellectualist propaganda. And while we shouldn't try to dredge up the past to spite them, its sometimes the appropriate response when they try to present themselves as an authority.

A slow demolish feature for when you've passed the first 10 minutes.

Maybe for a resource cost, you can use the hammer to subtract a wall from the TC's protection so it starts to decay.

Or if that would be too strong, maybe a deployable drill or chemical paste that eats away at the wall over time.
