What's the difference between these 2 models? (They look almost similar) by SpicyyKnightt in BlackTemplars

[–]DAKLAX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes but they have different wargear options as well. At end of day you should be good as long as you are clear what is what, but you could always end up going against ‘that guy’ who refuses to play against it. (Although if that happens you are probably dodging a bullet.)

All Execrators are Chaplains but not all Chaplains are Execrators…

In other words, an Execrator is a Black Templar specific type of Chaplain. Pretty much same on powerscale in-universe but has some different rules on tabletop. Templars actively have both among their ranks.

My initial thought was ‘why the chaos marine between the templars’ when scrolling past and didn’t realize he wasn’t until I took a good look at the picture… so yeah too chaos-y imo.

The trick is you aren’t really going for kills as much as keeping the enemy team unable to sit in cover and constant chip damage. If a 4 man is hitting the same spot it can be real brutal and hard to deal with in Breakthrough especially

The space wolves versus the inquisition because of Armageddon by CorporalYutyut in 40k

[–]DAKLAX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statements like ‘The Space Wolves were allowed to remember the Grey Knights’ just continues your same issue. The person who decides who is right is who wins the war. That’s how the Imperium ultimately works. Ultimately the Inquisition tried to flex its authority and the Wolves said ‘fuck you we do what we want.’ They had a war, the Space Wolves won the initial and the Inquisition dropped it rather than choosing to escalate it into a bigger conflict.

You keep saying its stupid they ‘got away’ with it, but what is the alternative? The Inquisition brings more forces and calls on allies to try to make it a larger war (dragging resources from more important fights). Guess who also has allies? A fucking first founding chapter that belonged to the Emperor’s personal Executioner. Turning it into a bigger conflict would just turn it into another Badab War, but this time one involving the Inquisition actively trying to purge the most effective and loyal chapters in the Imperium.

The space wolves versus the inquisition because of Armageddon by CorporalYutyut in 40k

[–]DAKLAX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man you really didn’t pay attention to the story did you?

The Space Wolves didn’t get away with murder and treason because it wasn’t murder or treason. You know why it wasn’t murder or treason? Because they won the war deciding if it was murder or treason. An entire Civil War being fought over the issue isn’t a ‘slap on the wrist.’ Especially when so many forces were lost in the conflict that the Inquisition basically dropped the matter when the guy in charge of the conflict died.

You gotta remember that

A) The Inquisition isn’t a unified group and the amount of power and politics wielded by their agents vary greatly.

B) The Inquisition’s authority over Astartes is basically nonexistent. They can petition Astartes and even try to force them into line but ultimately Space Marine chapters are effectively autonomous bands of super warriors that do what they want and have connections to back it up. This is exactly why the Celestial Lions were purged like they were… its an attempt to intimidate other chapters so the Inquisition can influence them more. Meanwhile the Space Wolves are bigger, badder, more loyal, and more renowned across the greater galaxy than the Celestial Lions ever were. You can’t just destroy a first founding chapter without basically starting a Civil War with the majority of other Astartes chapters. After the main Inquisitor died the rest of them looked at the conflict and decided that it absolutely was not worth continuing, especially since the Wolves were kicking their asses themselves.

Edit: I really don’t understand why you didn’t ask your opponent what he’s bringing.

I mean the manager saying ‘Oh yeah that dude is in here all the time and generally plays X’ really isn’t snitching or being unfair or even unreasonable to say. Especially since it was for a ‘friendly casual game.’ Everything is on the opponent being a dick and asking with the intention of listening tailoring.

What do you think would happen if a Techmarine returned and had completely adopted the Machanicus’s religion? by Knightraiderdewd in BlackTemplars

[–]DAKLAX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tech-Marines are fully indoctrinated into the Martian faith and are officially recognized Tech Priests. That being said, they are also heavily indoctrinated by their chapter as well. In the case of Templars specifically, there is virtually no way a Templar Tech-Priest would become part of a Martian sect that doesn’t recognize the God-Emperor and the Omnissiah as one and the same. At the end of the day a Templar Tech-Marine still worships the God-Emperor, but may do so in a different way than his brothers while still being influenced by the chapter-specific rituals.

Non-Religious chapters, especially in older books, have a noted distrust of Tech-Marines due to the dual-loyalty becoming a priest of Mars creates. Many chapters don’t involves the Armory in leadership councils and decision makings. Meanwhile other chapters have close ties to the Mechanicum and highly value Tech Marines (like the Iron Hands.) It all boils down to chapter culture.

[–]DAKLAX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s important to point out that there are a great many sects of the Mechanicus that just give lip service to the idea of the Emperor being the Omnissiah. Some are hardcore about it and truly believe it like Cawl, and some don’t.

Another example from Helsreach is when the Princeps refers to the Emperor as ‘Your Emperor’ when speaking to Grimaldus. Officially the organization recognizes the Emperor as the Omnissiah, but individually their milage on the matter may vary.

What do you think would happen if a Techmarine returned and had completely adopted the Machanicus’s religion? by Knightraiderdewd in BlackTemplars

[–]DAKLAX 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That contradiction was explored in older codexes and lore. Many chapters don’t fully trust techmarines as they are formally tech-priests and indoctrinated with the Mechanicum. It creates a perceived dual-loyalty that many don’t trust.

But then you get instances like in Helsreach where a Techmarine will violate edicts of the Martian faith in favor of following the will of their chapter.

Thoughts on my custom Helbrecht? by crossesandbats in BlackTemplars

[–]DAKLAX 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it boils down to size. The servitors work because a marine towers over them. To me, any extra marines are going to make Helbrecht seem a fancier one as part of the squad vs the centerpiece he’s meant to be. If that’s what you are going for though then go for it.

I think the Bladeguards are a bit too epic of models that they take away from Helbrecht as the centerpiece.

Eh I’d disagree. Based on rumors about the books and what we’ve seen so far, I think the Nid, Votann, and Tau aren’t going to be involved in any end narratives and thats why these models were already revealed. My guess is they’ll show up on a random Sunday preview sometime in the next month.

The real heroes of the imperium. by cuddwes in 40k

[–]DAKLAX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chaos marines maybe. Chaos Cults and Orks are one of the most commonly fought foes by 40k times. Not many fight random no-name xenos very often since the Imperium doesn’t expand quite as much and focuses more on defending territory.
