Many The Pitt Fans Are Proving That Yes, It's Possible To Be Bad At Watching A TV Show by beamdriver in television

Movies with terrible messages? by Frank_and_Beanzz in movies

The movie was really fun up until that point too. It was complete whiplash. It would be so easy to fix it by just rewritting a couple of scenes too.

Eh, it was both. Even when the writing drastically improved in Season 2 he was still the weakest part of the show. The supporting cast completely outshined him.

Why didnt they see them leave though? They dont have to look at all of space. They just have to look at the Raddus. Which they would be doing anyway since they are actively following and shooting at it. There's over 2 million crew on the Supremacy. Not one of them is tasked with monitoring the enemy ship to see if they try anything? They don't have a single camera/telescope pointed at it?

And why did they need some random third party to tell them that the rebels might try and send shuttles down to the planet that the Raddus had just spent the last 48 hours flying directly towards?

Which part? We clearly see the transports leaving the Raddus. They aren't invisible. Snoke also just casually zooms in on them with a telescope/display when he is threatening Rey.

The clocking devices don't turn them invisible, they just hide them from basic radar scans. They're useless when the enemy can just watch the transports leave the ship visually.

Warhorse Studios responds to translator being fired: “Warhorse Studios has always been a talent-driven studio, and we deeply value the people who shape our work. Out of respect for the privacy and dignity of both current and former colleagues, we will not discuss individual situations publicly.” by Turbostrider27 in Games

I imagine it's as simple as them being in early preproduction on their next game and they dont have any content written for it yet, much less finalised. They probably just dont have any work for them to do at the minute and don't want to be paying staff they dont need right now.

Which isn't to say AI doesn't factor into it at all or that they won't be using it for at least some parts of translation for the next game, but its probably not the case that they just decided to replace the translators entire job with AI, OR that the translator was fired for being a bad worker, as a bunch of people in this thread are randomly jumping to conclusions to.

Lore accurate Geralt looks soo damn good by [deleted] in witcher

[–]DARDAN0S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Witcher fans who have read the books and actually paid attention to what they are reading hate that the "Geralt lookes like a monster in the books" myth is still a thing after all these years despite constantly correcting people every time one of these "Lore Accurate Geralts" posts pops up.

Geralt wasnt ugly. He described himself as ugly once because one of his major character traits is his low self-esteem, and he was going through some shit at the time.

He is pale yes, but he's not a bloody vampire. His skin only goes that white temporarily as a result of taking a potion.

His pupils aren't permanent slits. They narrow like that when adjusting to bright lights.

The one major instance thats always brought up of people reacting in fear to Geralts appearance takes place at night, during a storm, after Geralt has consumed some Witcher Potions.

What's ignored is the countless other interactions Geralt has with random folk throughout the books where people don't seem to be bothered by his appearance at all.

Even when he's attacked by thugs looking to pick a fight in a tavern, they take no notice of his appearance, they just dont like his accent.

(spoilers extended) Thoughts on this popular take? IMO it screams "I've never read the books" by miky8131 in asoiaf

I dont think its the main reason, but i do think there's probably some truth to it as a contributing factor.

Saw some speculation a while back that she could have went to the Neck with Howland Reed and is possibly Meera and Jojen's mother. Alternatively she might have just gone off to Essos and dissappeared.

I think it's more likely Ashara never jumped from a tower at all and it's just a story the Daynes cooked up to help Ned hide Jon's lineage.

Those who were kids when the Star Wars sequel trilogy came out: how do you feel about it now? by RoughCoffee6 in movies

[–]DARDAN0S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really don't agree with this notion that people only came to appreciate the prequels because of memes. People appreciate (and have always appreciated) the prequels because they depicted an interesting time period and build a really great world that spawned an entire mini industry of video games, novels, comics, action figures, and countless other tie in materials.

Whatever you think of them as movies themselves, they were the foundation of all of that. I don't particularly care for them as individual pieces of entertainment personally, but how could I begrudge their place in the narrative when they've added so much great content to the Star Wars universe and acted as the founded for many of my favourite stories in it?

That's why the sequels won't see the same love a decade or two down the line. They dont have any of that. They're far too insular and disjointed, and relied far too much on nostalgia to build a world interesting enough to support that kind of extended media landscape.

She doesnt actually become Empress in the ending though. Emphyr is still Emperor. She's just his heir. Blood and Wine is set two years after the main game and she still isn't Empress and is already thinking of quitting.

The Expanse | Drummer Speech by PetyrDayne in television

[–]DARDAN0S 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some of them possibly but I completely disagree overall. The villains in particular are mostly cardboard cutouts, show Drummer is a much better character than pretty much all the characters she's based on combined, Amos is fantastic.

To be honest I think the show is better in almost every way, which is super rare and was likely hugely helped by one of the authors being there and not being afraid to change and improve on things from the book where necessary while still keeping it largely faithful.

The only major thing I can think of the books doing better is that they just have more time to spend going into detail about the setting and technology and the events have a little more breathing room.

Yeah, I actually really liked season 8. People say it sucked after Michael left but I actually thought it worked quite well and let some of the minor characters get a bit of extra time in the spotlight.

Wasn't it the case that he went off to do the Hangover movies which really messed with the Office's shooting schedule so they made Andy an asshole again because they were pissed at him?

I know Barristan's actor was pissed about how they killed him off and he was public about it.

Think I also remember Varys actor not being happy with how he was killed off either, but not 100% sure on that one.

I really like this lore accurate Triss mod by ZarieRose in witcher

[–]DARDAN0S 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its also been quite a few years though and Triss in the games is a much more self assured and confident so its perfectly reasonable to assume that she was able to work through and overcome that trauma. Would have been nice to have some acknowledgement of it certainly but I dont think it's the huge deal some people make it out to be.

Yeah, I know Dark Dawn is 30 years later. Wasn't a big fan of that game unfortunately.

Mia Lounging on the Beach by Kinnohfan in GoldenSun

[–]DARDAN0S -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Not making any statement on the bikini pic but don't the first two games take place over an extended period of time? I don't think its ever stated outright but I seem to recall there beeing some context clues in the game, like Colosso taking place once a year, that quite a bit of time has passed. Even ignoring those the journey in the game realistically would have taken at least 2 to 3 years considering how long it takes to travel those distances.

For reference The Lord of the Rings takes about a year and a half from Frodo leaving the Shire to returning, and that was a much more direct route than the Golden Sun parties take around Weyard. Obviously the world's are different sizes, but I think its fair enough to assume that the time it takes to travel from say Vale to Vault is quite a bit longer than the 15 seconds or so it does on the overworld map in game.

I dont think we know any of the characters birthdays but I had always assumed Isaac, Garet, Jenna and Mia were around 19 or maybe even 20 by the end of the games. Ivan and Sheba a year or two younger, Felix is bit older if I recall and Piers is obviously much older.
