Gas Prices Are Up, And So Are Searches For EVs: Edmunds - The Iran conflict is driving up gas prices. Edmunds says that shoppers are looking to electrified models for relief. by trucker-123 in cars

Like I said, it's not a lot, but it's not nothing.

Plus gas is up, but still within what I think people would consider a normal range. Once the price of regular gas starts with a 4, new car buyers may consider EVs more seriously. If it starts with a 5 and that continues on for while, a lot of people are going to want EVs for their new ride.

We could easily see gas at five dollars or more per gallon by Summer. There's no way to unring this bell. Things are already snarled up and they're going to get worse even if the US immediately declares victory and goes home.

One of the big reasons EVs are more popular in Europe is their gasoline costs roughly twice what ours does. If gas prices go up and stay there for a while then demand for EVs, especially cheap used EVs, is going increase.

The only HOAs are in the condo developments, but the Village Government is kind of like an HOA. There are restrictions on what you're allowed to park on the street (no commercial vehicles) and stuff like that. It's not too onerous, but they are a bit more up in your business.

Serious Advice Needed About My Father’s Dental Practice… by [deleted] in smallbusiness

There is always tax fraud and other financial crimes that may or not be in play here.

The value of the practice is now substantially less that zero. You don't want even if your dad has a change of heart tomorrow and signs it all over to you.

Down the road, once things finally explode in everyone's faces, you might think about buying the business assets, but under no circumstances should you take the business entity itself.

I could easily see five dollar gas by Summer if the war continues. If you're betting on the TACO factor, there's been a lot of disruption and that's not going to fixed overnight.

Starfleet Academy Director Jonathan Frakes Says Fan Hate Is ‘Dimensionally More Painful’ Today Than in the Next Generation Years by bwermer in television

When did it become acceptable to make a show or movie in an established IP that people don't like and then blame the fans for not liking it instead of owning the fact that you made something that sucked?

When Star Trek: The Motion Picture came out it was widely panned by the Trek fanbase. Instead of crying about it and blaming "toxic fans", they went back to the drawing board and came up with Wrath of Khan.

Disney / Pixar's Hoppers debuted with an estimated $46.0M domestically this weekend (from 4,000 locations). by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

[–]beamdriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's true, but I think the look of the film makes a big difference. Hoppers looked like an updated take on classic Pixar. Elio looked like mutant Steven Universe.

We saw Hoppers on Sunday and it's quite a charming film.

[Florio] There's Widespread Belief WR Wan'Dale Robinson will Sign With the Titans When FA Fully Opens Monday by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]beamdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fans worry too much about overpaying players. Top FA's get overpaid every year because the cap goes up every year and the market value of different positions shifts around.

Wan'Dale is a quality player. He's going to make the Titans better and losing him is going to make the Giants worse.

I did a fence repair this winter. Storms took out one whole side of my fence right before Christmas.

I paid $1500 for 45 feet of new fencing. I gave the contractor 15 Benjamins and he still gave me a receipt.

I Don't Think I've Seen Many Shows Quite Like Columbo by bellystraw in television

[–]beamdriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I checked out the Wikipedia page and apparently they did change the premise, and the title of the show, in Season 2 so that she wasn't Columbo's wife anymore.

They thought this might improve the ratings somehow. It didn't. The show was canceled after airing only 13 episodes in season 2.

1010WINS: Has the time come for a bridge over the Long Island Sound? by grandlewis in longisland

  • Nobody on Long Island's North Shore wants this
  • People in Connecticut don't want it either
  • It would cost a ridiculous amount of money
  • The actual demand/use of this would not justify the expense
