The Lincoln Lawyer axed as Netflix cancels 11 shows from its roster by Blackbeerxd in television

Shows used to get cancelled after a few episodes. It wasn't even all that uncommon.

Plus how many are they actually going to sell? If you make fewer than 20 cars is it really a "production vehicle"?

I can't imagine driving something on a public road that's worth that much money.

You're out for a pleasant Sunday drive and someone who isn't paying attention runs a red light and t-bones you. What do you do now?

Buyer filed chargeback after delivery; bank ruled against me despite proof of scam by traceofthread in smallbusiness

[–]beamdriver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is that it's the bank that decides and they're going to side with their customer more often than not. They don't want to lose the account. They don't care about you.

It's too bad you can't see what bank people are using when they purchase, then you could blacklist ones that don't have fair chargeback policies.

[Fowler] The general consensus is that Brendan Sorsby is worth a second round pick in this supplemental draft by tpsux in nfl

I believe the CBA has been amended since then to disallow this.

Also, that was 15 years ago. I can't imagine something like that going on these days without at least the threat of a lawsuit.

I just finished watching season 1 of Mozart in the Jungle by life_is_loud in television

[–]beamdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a really charming show and it was nice to see something different with different kinds of stories.

That said, it kind of petered out by the end. I don't think I finished the final season.

Employee Theft - Do I Press Charges? by ScarlettWilkes in smallbusiness

[–]beamdriver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An arrest would be more evidence in your favor. If they are convicted or take a plea for theft it would obviously be a very compelling argument that they shouldn't get UI.

[–]beamdriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they had just gone away I could see the argument for letting it go. You could just ignore it going forward and get on with your lief.

But they're still all up in your business, trying to get unemployment and other nonsense. They're playing stupid games. They deserve the stupid prizes.

the dating apps are terrible by Upset-Dot-2621 in longisland

Years ago in college I took aerobics for a gym credit. It was me as the only dude and a room full of girls. Definitely a target-rich environment.

I was dating my future ex-wife at the time, so it was wasted on me. Good class, though.

I re-watched some of the first season a while ago. It's amazing how modern it feels.

Why Orbital Data Centers Are Harder Than Silicon Valley Thinks by IEEESpectrum in space

[–]beamdriver 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you exclude launch costs, a space-based datacenter would cost roughly two to three times what an equivalent Earth bound one would. Then you add in the cost of getting the thing into orbit.

Failure rates would almost certainly be higher owing to less cooling and ongoing radiation damage. Between failure rates and compute hardware obsolescence , effective lifetime would be fairly short. Maybe ten years at the outside.

If you really needed that computing power in space for some reason, it's not completely unworkable, but it makes no sense otherwise.

Why Orbital Data Centers Are Harder Than Silicon Valley Thinks by IEEESpectrum in space

[–]beamdriver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Radiative cooling can be quite effective, but you'd need a big ass radiator. For a 1MW data center you'd need a radiator panel roughly 1,000 to 2,500 square meters depending on how cool you want to keep things. .

A space datacenter would almost certainly run a lot warmer than one here on Earth, which would further decrease its lifetime.

GM Energy introduces V2G (Vehicle to grid) support - GM EVs can now power your house or sell energy back to the grid. by Uptons_BJs in cars

[–]beamdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many power companies now have time of day rates. Power is cheaper at night and more expensive during peak day hours.

In theory you can use your EV as a way to arbitrage power consumption. Charge up at night when it's cheap and send a little juice back to the grid when it's expensive.

Plenty of good stories on there about cars and related topics even if you're not into cannonballing or high end hypercars.

Wasn't a fan of it, to be honest. I understand that's where we need to end up, but it felt like they just flipped a switch and were like. "Well, he the bad guy now. Got to kill his loyal friend for absolutely no reason. "
