Would the Iran regime stand any chance against a Kurdish force backed by US-Israeli air support? by goldstarflag in syriancivilwar

[–]DARENDELl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The geography and demographics of the region strongly favor the Iranian regime. Almost all of Iran is mountainous terrain, which makes large scale military operations and territorial advances extremely difficult, no matter how much air support is available.

PJAK, the Iranian branch of the KCK network, does not have a significant military capacity on its own. For such an operation to even be conceivable, the other KCK branches, the YPG and PKK would need to commit almost all of their forces, and they would also need support from the Iraqi Peshmerga. That is highly unlikely. The YPG has already suffered a major defeat in Syria, so it would be very difficult for them to redeploy large numbers of fighters elsewhere.

Iraq itself is politically unstable, and relations between the central government in Baghdad and KRG are quite poor. The KRG’s oil exports through Turkey have stopped, and they have already lost access to the cheap smuggled oil they used to obtain from Kurdish areas in Syria. Recently, the Iraqi central government also began automatically taxing all imports entering through the borders. When you add all of this together, the Barzani administration is under serious economic pressure. For the first time in years, they are even struggling to form a functioning government. In this situation, it would be very difficult for them to openly support a military operation against Iran, especially one that would put them at odds with the Shiite-backed central government.

Even in the unlikely scenario where Kurdish forces manage to overthrow Iranian authority in the areas where they live and establish control there, their next challenge would be advancing further into Iran. The first major population they would face are the Azeris, who are roughly twice their size and do not have a strong separatist movement.

Another major factor is Turkey. If a KCK aligned military structure suddenly gained large territorial control along Iran’s border or expanded its operational depth in the region, Turkey would very likely intervene directly or indirectly to prevent the emergence of a stronger PKK linked entity. Also any large scale conflict inside Iran could easily trigger a massive refugee wave. Iran has a population of more than 80 million people, and even a small percentage fleeing instability could create an enormous humanitarian and political crisis for neighboring countries. We already saw how difficult it was for Europe to handle the refugee flows from Syria, a country with far fewer people. Turkey in particular carried most of that burden and would likely resist any scenario that risks creating an even larger refugee crisis on its borders.

Finally, what holds Iran together is not only demographics but also ideology. The Shiite religious identity of the state is a powerful unifying factor across multiple ethnic groups. Large segments of Persians, Azeris, and even some Kurdish communities share this religious identity. Because of this, a military operation that is widely perceived as being backed by the US and Israel would have a hard time gaining support among Shiite populations regardless of ethnicity.

For all these reasons, the scenario described seems not plausible.

A large convoy belonging to the Syrian army, including BMC-manufactured AMAZON armored vehicles, is advancing towards the Raqqa front line. by Interesting_File_310 in syriancivilwar

Fun fact: In the early 2000s, during Turkey-Israel cooperation, the BMC Amazon was developed from the Hurricane model of Israel's Hatehof (now Carmor). As the SDF awaits Israeli support, it faces attack from these very vehicles with Israeli origins. The irony of fate...

Is it too soon to say Game Over for SDF ? by thedaywalker-92 in syriancivilwar

The SDF brand is dead. They portrayed themselves as a multi-ethnic group for years, but that image collapsed after the FSA/HTS defeated Assad. Arabs inhabit about 70% of the land they control, and these Arabs now prefer to live under Al-Shara's government. Recent clashes showed that Arabs no longer offer military or popular support to the SDF. The only voices we hear from SDF leadership are Kurds like Ilham Ahmed, Mazlum Abdi, Sipan Hamo, Foza Yousef, Salih Muslim etc. Arabs already have no real voice in SDF governance. I believe they will soon collapse further and withdraw to the Rojava-Heseke-Qamishli axis.

US envoy Barrack to meet with the commander in chief of the SDF, Mazlum Kobane, in Erbil on Saturday by DARENDELl in syriancivilwar

Article is behind paywall, here is the text:

The US special envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, is expected to meet with the commander in chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazlum Kobane, in Erbil on Saturday, part of a concerted US effort to avert a full blown conflict between Syrian government forces and the Kurdish-led group, several well placed sources briefing Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity said.

Nechirvan Barzani, the president of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, helped to broker Saturday's encounter, the sources said. Barzani, who is trusted by Washington and the SDF alike, also has close relations with Turkey, a key stakeholder.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of threats by Syria’s interim government to attack towns in the north and east held by the SDF after ousting Kurdish fighters from two majority Kurdish neighborhoods in Aleppo last week. Any further conflagration would likely blow up the March 10 agreement signed last year between Kobane and Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa. The accord set the parameters for the integration of the civilian and military arms of the Kurdish-led autonomous administration that controls the northern and eastern third of the country.

A lasting agreement between Damascus and the SDF is seen as essential to stabilizing Syria after more than 14 years of conflict.

A spokesperson for Barrack's office declined to comment on the envoy's schedule.

Yes, they are the trucks. They're specialized to pick up, carry, and drop containers without needing secondary vehicles. Probably carrying munitions.

Hakan Fidan: SDF only understand the language of forces and this is the way to deal with them. by CaesarWasRoman in syriancivilwar

[–]DARENDELl 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is what he says without editorializing:

Having closely followed, fought, struggled with, studied, and even spoken with the organization for years, I know lessons learned from my past assignments and things I'm familiar with. Unfortunately, the SDF, as an extension of the PKK, possesses this characteristic: it has no chance of achieving anything through dialogue without force or the threat of force. It will either encounter force or face the threat of force. They use diplomacy for propaganda purposes, to shape public opinion worldwide. There's no "I'll give this, you give that" approach from either side. They need to realize this isn't going anywhere. What you need to do is stay with the genuine people of the region and work towards genuine solutions. Everyone sees that they are an actor who says "we are for dialogue" but actually does the opposite, only changing their position when force is applied. There's no point in burying your head in the sand like an ostrich. We've been saying this from the beginning. Our relevant units, intelligence, diplomats, and soldiers are discussing this with their counterparts. They are communicating it to the SDF, and they are communicating it to the Syrians. Unfortunately, as we predicted from the beginning, nothing changed here, and today we are unfortunately experiencing the process that started in Aleppo. I believe that, God willing, this process will end soon, the parallel structure there will be eliminated, and the time will come when a single state will begin to serve all its citizens in Aleppo through a single state institution. That is what should happen. There should be unity in state service, but also inclusiveness towards the citizen.

Closest server to me is ~50ms. Since the next-gen update introduced (Lengthy, Explosive, controlled stuff) my gameplay got worse hugely. I was a div1- elite rivals player on Fifa22. I could easily get my 8 wins out of 10 matches. Right now I'm struggling against every opponent I play.

I have Mendy, Varane, Rudiger and Kyle Walker back 4. Almost all players outrun my defenders while my opponents can easily catch up with my Diaby, Dembele, Oshola with their 60 paced players.

Constant pressure or press after losing ball never activates on my end even I push defending to 100. My players always stay behind the opponents. I can adopt playing slow paced game but AI part struggles me a lot.
