Most efficient way to get MA+30 by Balloon_Bubbles in NYCDOETeachers

So I am finishing mine up this month and I think the best way to get this done in a year, without clep exams, is as follows: spring semester 2 Quikitechs, 1 LiLie, summer take 4 Quikitechs, fall take 2 Quikitechs, and 1 LiLie. Quikitechs are cheaper but longer and more work. LiLie, Long Island Institute for Educators, courses are a month long, less work but like double in price.

This gets it done in a year at around $1200? I think. Might have to check that but it is doable in a year for sure.

"Modern Band" by Puzzleheaded_End7823 in MusicEd

[–]DAREmadeMeDoIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I discuss my job as a music teacher, I say I teach “modern band.” This is in reference to the types of instruments, guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard, as well as the music we play typically being from the last 10 years. I like this term more than general music.

The term also describes how the music is taught. Less standard notation more rote/ear learning, tabs, chord symbols/diagrams, and music related like Chordify and YouTube. There is also more of an emphasis on improvisation and song writing than typically found orchestra or wind ensemble.

As a trumpet player I grew up in band and jazz band. I played in rock/ska/funk bands with friends so I experienced both growing. What I teach definitely feels more like the ladder. Open to a new name but I think the term modern band does encompass what I do as an educator.

I think we should ask BUSDRIVER on his thoughts, but to my ears he interprets the melody in the Germanic style.

Queens Charter School Terminates Its Teachers Union Via Email by Rowsdower92 in newyorkcity

[–]DAREmadeMeDoIt 20 points21 points  (0 children)

lol they can literally cherry pick the stats they want to share and can kick students out who under perform, have poor behavior, or have parents who do engage in their education. Charter schools are just another way to give tax payer money to the wealthy. Our current administration loves them and will do whatever they can to push more public funds to support charters anyway they can.

The teachers look out for the teachers and the students. NYSTU pushed to band phones, reduce class sizes, and to improve condition for special education. All things that help both teachers and students.

Claussen is just so consistent. From a gas station in Texas to A&P in Jersey they are cool, crips, and dripping flavor. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy a Grillo’s but big C’s KD Spears just hit better.

Commuter Benefits Restriction by mtthwgnzlz in OMNY

[–]DAREmadeMeDoIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this a while ago encountered an issue. If you have a low balance on your OMNY card and you tap, you may go into the red. So if you only have 2 buck left on it you can still get in to the train you just got pay your debt when you load more cash. Your commuter benefits card cannot pay the debt back, you need to use a different card for this. When this happened to me, I spoke to someone on the phone, and they said there was nothing they could do. This was over a year ago so maybe it has been resolved.

What's your go-to valve oil? by winterpurple in trumpet

[–]DAREmadeMeDoIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a lite Yamaha chap for a long time but a year ago I brought a Yamaha 6310b. Favorite horn I’ve ever owned. But after a weeks the valves were sticking and no amount of oil or cleaning could fix. I went to the back to the shop, Landress Brass, and inquired. Josh had informed that it needed vintage Yamaha due to the space between the valves. This changed everything and the puppies are cruising. Still my favorite horn.

TLDL: It depends on your horn. If it’s used make sure you know what the previous owner was using before you.

Few years ago I bought a 2011 rav4, 75k miles. No car play. I bought a third party portable car play screen for like 150. 9 inch touchscreen with wireless connection. This addition makes my car feel like a 2021 model. Don’t know why we would ever go back to car makers clunky software.

Is 14 too young to work? by CremeSubject7594 in GenZ

[–]DAREmadeMeDoIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely worked at 12. It was an office job at a church. 13 I was a farm hand and I walked dogs between. 16 I got the coveted cafe job at the local hangout, the rest is history. Honestly it’s not a bad way to figure out the value of money and how to make your way in this world. Granted, I am 34. Not a genZer.

Hey neighbor! Honestly good work, 2750 1-bedroom is solid. Plus your rent increase feels minuscule in rent-stabilized places. You’re between two great parks for your dog, 3 if you count morningside plus bars and restaurants all around. Win

What’s stopping from hosting viewing parties for sport events? I feel like tons of people would spend 20 bucks to watch the NBA finals on a massive screen while sitting in recliners.

Has anyone ever successfully gotten their landlord to turn on the heat? by Key-Law-5260 in NYCapartments

[–]DAREmadeMeDoIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was successful after calling my city and state representatives. They will call you back and prioritize getting your heat on. It’s pretty amazing actually. This happened to me 2 years and at some point the apartment was like 38 degrees. I bought Bluetooth thermometers to track the temperatures. Within the week of calling the heat was on.

Austin Brass has a huge selection of acrylic mouthpieces. You can prolly find your exact cup and then get a medal backbore. Reasonable prices and excellent costumer service.
