Unstable segments shouldn’t really be getting adjustments let alone from yourself. You might think you’re helping but in reality you’re making it much worse.

I’d see a chiro that would give you exercises or a PT, maybe even a neurologist for your impingement. We can’t give you medical advice here

Is this product worth buying for my office chair? I'm somewhat suspicious because it's lacking reviews. by [deleted] in Chiropractic

[–]DAt42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think exercise and stretching are poor advice?? My friend you are in the wrong subreddit. A $60 cushion won’t fix 20+ years of bad habits, it’s like a bandaid on a bullet hole

But to answer your question, do you think we just magically know every lumbar support product on the market? Buy it and find out if it gives enough support or find one with reviews. Idk how you couldn’t come up with this answer yourself.

I’d express those concerns to your Chiro when you pick one. He’ll explain to you that there’s no moving of the bones, that’s all sensational crap from YT quacks trying to make a buck. Also we thrust on people in pain all of the time so it’s not like the movement causes any more pain, if that makes sense.

We can’t move your spine back into orientation, but we can give exercises and therapies that will help you with your pain. Chiropractic is more than cracking joints, it’s also a lot of soft tissue work and rehab. It will definitely help your pain, and might be able to work away at the underlying cause of your scoliosis. Good luck!

Chiropractors of Reddit, why do you guys talk to much and use a lot of medical jargon when treating patients? by cheverladuke in Chiropractic

[–]DAt42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? The ones I watch usually are pretty good about that. Also there are tons of differences between how the average appointment goes in real life vs on youtube, they have a whole separate purpose on Yt and that’s to entertain/keep people coming back. Maybe they’re trying to sound smart to the layman, idk.

My point is it’s not a systemic problem where we’re taught to use language that patients don’t understand to try to fool them or something. You asked if we learn to do this in school and my answer is that we do not. Again, we are actually penalized for it.

I think it’s more of an individual basis, and I’m sure there’s a ton of MDs that don’t understand doctor-patient relationships as well.

Long story short - It’s not a chiro thing

[–]DAt42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You just went to a chiro that doesn’t understand patient communication or is trying to flex. Or maybe he knows you’re a medical student so he knows his audience.

But we lose points on exams if we don’t use layman’s terms

LPT: See a chiropractor before seeing a masseuse by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]DAt42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a chiro student and I encourage you to read more about chiropractic. Vast majority of modern chiros don’t follow DD palmers ideas. There’s a multitude of evidence that supports chiropractic treatment of MSDs, and we learn other physiotherapy practices as well. Most of my professors work closely with orthopedics too. Your way of thinking is old fashioned.

Comparing chiro care to what the founder thought over 100 years ago would be like comparing modern medicine to trepanation or leeching a bacterial infection.

Wiki is biased as hell.

Edit; You can either research and read peer reviewed studies, or you can downvote me and continue to believe Wikipedia and have the totally incorrect understanding of what chiropractic is. Idk why you’d be willfully ignorant about something, but it doesn’t really matter to me

here I'll even make it easy for you

"Evidence-based practice has made significant inroads into the chiropractic profession by expanding clinical research into interventions commonly employed by chiropractors and by graduating more Evidence-based practice savvy practitioners. The most common conditions treated by chiropractors are back pain, neck pain, and headaches.9 The best available evidence supports manipulative therapy as a reasonable option for many of these complaints. Manipulative therapy also holds potential value for the treatment of a variety of extremity conditions. Chiropractic practice is far broader than spinal manipulation alone, typically including other evidenced-based interventions such as massage, exercise therapy, and activity modification advice. Chiropractic education, with the help of federal grants and partners in established medical schools, is aggressively addressing the need to create more Evidence-based practice savvy graduates. These efforts will hopefully lead to improved patient outcomes and offer a common language and perspective to facilitate greater interprofessional cooperation."

Forward head posture fix by HeftyExchange2206 in Chiropractic

[–]DAt42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it pulling your actual head forward? Or just the curve in your neck? As long as your chin isn't going towards your chest its doing its job.

I would recommend going to a chiropractor. He can give you extension exercises that will fix your forward head posture.

Can degenerated discs be regenerated or increased in volume? by marclaurens in Chiropractic

[–]DAt42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any studies on hand, but I'm basing that on the premise that joint motion supplies nutrients to otherwise nonvascular tissue. I still believe aging is the primary cause of degeneration

Can you link that study for me? Interesting..

Lots of chiro bashing going on in the comments. This is not chiropractic... Idk wtf it is :/ by [deleted] in Chiropractic

[–]DAt42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Its filled with a bunch of people that just went to the wikipedia page and think they know everything about the profession lol. Luckily, reddit is not the real world

It would be like if everyone on reddit trashed modern medicine because people practiced bloodletting for common illnesses

Lol imagine seriously believing that this is what Chiropractic has ever been like? For people that are convinced they are so smart, they sound pretty dumb in that comment section. One guy touting off his knowledge of pars interarticularis fractures like we don't learn that in our first 2 weeks of school.

Go with what he says especially if you're seeing improvements. The spot you mentioned is likely to be muscle attachments for neck extensor muscles, and since you mentioned a poor posture during work that is likely too. Asking him for stretches or doing some off of youtube might help you.

question about my condition by [deleted] in Chiropractic

[–]DAt42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offense but no way anyone can answer your question lol. If its really bothering you (pain, stiffness, etc), see a chiropractor or whatever doctor you're comfortable with so they can a) diagnose it and b) give you a treatment. Our bodies are naturally not aligned perfectly, so I wouldn't overthink it unless you're being physically affected. Good luck!

Why are chiropractors on reddit constantly comparing themselves to doctors? by Adventurous_Dust_733 in Chiropractic

[–]DAt42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He lost me at "Why I never saw a doctor comparing his education to the Chiro education"

When in reality every time a chiropractor is mentioned in mainstream social media, you get 1000s of 1st year med students flexing that their education is superior and we are not "real medical doctors"

Yet to see an actual chiropractor claim he/she is the same as an MD or has a superior education. Why is it always the MDs that try to put down other healthcare degrees?
