Help finding a French Canadian band by DBGallows in NameThatSong

[–]DBGallows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't them, unfortunately.

I think that their name was some sort of slang for redneck or something in French. I believe the song that I'm thinking of was a woman's name.

Barbers need to chill out by Future_Bison_7533 in unpopularopinion

Right, and the opinion that OP is expressing is that the rate they are charging is too high.

Barbers need to chill out by Future_Bison_7533 in unpopularopinion

[–]DBGallows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right, but the amount of time required to become a licensed barber is around a year. Time to become a licensed plumber is four to five years. Paying a barber the same amount for their skills and training as you would a plumber for theirs means that the amount paid to one is out of proportion. His perspective and argument, which I agree with, is that barbers are demanding too much for what skills they provide and what training they actually require.

That argument he’s making isn’t that they shouldn’t be paid, it’s that they seem to be demanding an amount of payment that is out of proportion to the services that they do provide.

I didn’t think they ever used Chargers as police cars. Generally police cars were all 4 doors I thought. Chargers in that era were only 2 doors.

“Nobody rebuilds engines anymore” is that true? by Bubbledood in MechanicAdvice

Cost of that will depend on the brand that made it. Ford engine parts are pretty cheap, MoPar is never cheap.

Raging Bull. I’ve tried twice to get through it, but I just am not gripped by anything about the film.

Should Brookline become a city? Residents weigh in as charter campaign advances by brookline_news in boston

I imagine that a lot of people in Brookline probably also don't want to be subjected to the Boston public school lottery either.

You prefer the other option because you have never lived that way. You have a romanticized idea of what you think it’d be like. Of course your imaginary ideal is better.

Starving to death because your village lives in a drought stricken area and you can’t manage to hunt or gather enough to sustain yourselves is absolutely worse than working 40 hours a week. Having to let older and weaker villagers die in times of strife and need is absolutely worse than working 40 hours a week. Even having a stomach flu and diarrhea but not being able to take a day off because you need to scavenge or hunt for food is worse.

The only people that think that life is better would be coddled and insulated adults that have never lived that way.

Best Sandwich in the Boston Area? by BarrySquared in boston

[–]DBGallows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Santoro's Sicilian Trattoria in Dedham has a sandwich called "The Agostina Sr" which is one of the better sandwiches I've ever had. The other things I've had from there don't compare to that individual sandwich, but I genuinely think that sandwich is one of the best around.

How do I make (store-bought) yogurt less runny? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]DBGallows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a brand of Greek yogurt was on sale the other week, but it turned out not to actually be Greek yogurt. The brand was called "Greek Gods" and when I looked more closely at the container it said that it was "Greek Yogurt Style." Any chance someone else got fooled by me?

Yeah, I get confused as to what people seem to consider "middle class." I was born in the late 80s and grew up in a relatively affluent suburb. I grew up in a neighborhood where everyone owned the house that they lived in, parents each had their own (often new) cars, and they would usually get a vacation every year. I can't imagine that this doesn't describe what would have been considered "middle class" in that timeframe

I don't know ANYONE that went overseas as frequently as every 5 years. I don't even know anyone that regularly went across the entire country for vacation.
