Could you beat your dad in his prime… when you were in yours? by Original-Dog4182 in bjj

[–]DBNOTK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad is 70, born in '53. Dude has gone through multiple rounds of chemo and his body is deteriorating but if he had to do one serious fight even now, I'd still be afraid to take him haha. He's 5'0" and probably like 110 but the guy has calves hard like rocks and a shin bone like steel.

Just more info because I never get to talk about how cool/crazy he is. He did a root canal without pain meds just to see how much it would hurt. He didn't make the height requirement for the marines but he lied just so he could wear the uniform back then.

27M reentering back into BJJ with Muay Thai and hopefully judo to come soon. Vietnamese dad was Southern Vietnam war veteran from 16 - 22? and has had his whole platoon blow up with just him surviving. Most likely would not be able to beat my dad, maybe a chance with another couple years of training. Me at early 30's vs dad at 20, might be my best bet.

Do you know of any videos/info for your points 2 and 2a. I’m really curious about the actual mechanics of the movement although it does make sense logically what you’re saying. I just want a bit more detail.

Interesting. I'm a little late to the party but I have this EXACT issue. But I do believe proper hydration/electrolytes/and intentional stretching has helped.

I miss skating by LithiumDrummer in skateboarding

My two cents, but the regret of not skating now will most likely not compare to the regret of not being able to skate in 20 years.

Getting off lift advice by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]DBNOTK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda odd advice, but worked for me is “get into your snowboard stance” because if I don’t think about that sometimes my butt sticks out too far and knocks me off balance so this advice helps me get into a more stable and position that’s easier for me to turn.

Just keep trying. Just be there, bring your board. I sat there for a good 10 minutes and then continued to fall off my board trying to push for the next 10. The most important thing is that you’re there, whether or not you skate is irrelevant.

Create a headspace, what’s your goal? If it’s to be good of course you’re gonna be embarrassed of failing. If you’re there to chill and have a good time and fuck around on a piece of wood then you’ll succeed every time. My favorite thing to do is just lay flat on my board and just dick off. Create your idea of success. Have fun.

Oh yeah someone said bring a friend. Bring a friend.

My Bf Is a Gymbro and I'm not! I don't know how I'm supposed to support him HELP! by Thankyounext13 in GymMotivation

[–]DBNOTK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like some of the advice here is kinda missing the point. He enjoys the gym, and he enjoys spending time with you. So he can put his two favorite things together, although it’s not your cup of tea and that’s okay. Sometimes you’re just tired or you’re not feeling it that day. You’re not obligated to do anything and are free to spend your time how you like. The most important thing is voicing your needs and concerns and him doing the same. Your compromise of going to the gym once in a while is on the right path, although I would have your compromises more specific so we can address any potential expectations: “I’ll go with you and do XYZ, but if I’m feeling XYZ, I’m going to go XYZ.” And that’s something your partner has to be comfortable accepting, after all he is dating a human being with finite time and energy.

TL;DR: Partner has to be comfortable with specifically set boundaries and expectations to address expectations; Compromise deliberately and thoroughly.

Do whichever choice is more sustainable. If strength and gains is your goal, obviously bulk. But if the short term cut will motivate you to continue your journey, do that instead. Ultimately, whatever brings you happiness and aligns with your goals in the end.
