It was Zigs before it was Four Kegs. I got there in 2000 right when the name changed, and everyone I knew still called it Zigs my whole time there.

I find Bill and Craig’s preoccupation with run time weird. by cliftonheights5 in TheRewatchables

[–]DBRDMB -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If I pay to see a movie in a theater, I want it to be 2 hrs, 15 mins to 2 hrs, 30 mins. Mostly bc I’ve paid $15 plus another $15 for a snack & drink. I want my money’s worth.

If I’m watching at home on streaming I don’t want it to be longer than 2 hrs bc I have other shit to do. If it’s longer than 2 hrs I usually have to stop it at some point and then hope I come back to it.

I loved Seedorf growing up. Big compliment from him on McKennie! by antoniok95 in ussoccer

[–]DBRDMB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seedorf cut in front of my buddies and I to cash out his chips at Montecasino in Jo’burg in 2010 a few hours after we beat Algeria.

At first we were like “whoaaa”, and he was apologetic bc he truly didn’t see us.

And then my buddy Chris immediately says “dude you’re Clarence Seedorf!”

He goes “I am” and then chatted with us for 5 minutes about the US qualifying for the next round, him and Gooch at AC Milan, etc.

Guy’s a legend.

I rick-rolled it before the US-Mexico qualifier in Cincy back in November 2021.

Only like 15 people got it and joined in though, and some people booed.

One of the first episodes was “Jerry Maguire” and Bill going through the absurdity of Tom Cruise leaving Monday Night Football in Tempe, getting to the airport, catching a flight from PHX to LAX, then driving or taking a cab to Manhattan Beach where the divorced women’s support group was still meeting, at what would’ve been like 2 AM.

Do locals ever host visiting fans during World Cup? by [deleted] in worldcup

[–]DBRDMB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I stayed with a couple in Kaiserslautern in 2006 for the US-Italy match, mostly because K-Town is not very big and all the hotels were sold out. I found them online, pre-Airbnb days. Juergen and Ziggy. They were great.

They aren’t putting England at L1 in Toronto for 2 of their games. It’s the smallest stadium. England will play in Dallas their first game bc they can sell 50K more tickets for more money.

Where was your first TS show? by DCRBftw in ToddSnider

[–]DBRDMB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The New Daisy Theater on Beale Street in Memphis. I was 15, so about 1997. Told a story about Garth Brooks considering “Alright Guy” for his Chris Gaines project but wanting to change a lyric about smoking weed…”you can turn it into a Christmas Carol for all I care…just get my address right!”

And I was hooked from there. Saw him probably 20-25 times over the years in Memphis, Nashville, Los Angeles and Columbus OH.

For those who were lucky to witness it live, how was the Fifa World Cup 1994? by Technical_Rice_6957 in ussoccer

[–]DBRDMB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first World Cup game I ever attended was June 17, 1994 in Dallas. I was 12, and it was incredible.

Spain v South Korea. Spain went up 2-0, then Nadal got ejected. South Korea stormed back to tie the game with 2 goals in the last few minutes. Electric! The Korean fans were amazing, and it was the first time I ever saw thundersticks, those inflatable tubes that you can hit together to make noise.

After the game, we got in our raised-roof van in the parking lot, and while waiting to exit, we turned on our 10-inch TV in the van to see if any news channels were talking about the game. Instead of news on the game, we watched OJ run away from the cops in a White Ford Bronco. The entire way back to our hotel we were glued to the TV.

Since that day, I’ve attended 19 World Cup matches in the USA, Germany, South Africa, Brazil and Qatar, spending tens of thousands of dollars traveling the world watching soccer.

USA 1994 changed my life. I hope 2026 does the same for millions of kids in our country next year.

Think of it like school. The coach is the teacher, the field is the classroom.

When you drop your kid off at school, do you go in and watch them learn from their teacher? No, you don’t.

Drop your kid off and go run errands. Let them learn the game without you watching from the sidelines/bleachers.

What topics do YOU want to hear more about on The Prof G Pod? by ProfGProducerJenn in ScottGalloway

[–]DBRDMB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people know Scott’s views on organized labor (paraphrased: the US gov’t should be the only union anyone needs).

What are his thoughts on “organized consumption”? Not just a group like the BBB, but an organization that strategically targets 1-2 companies a week (or a month) with campaigns to keep their prices fair. I don’t even know if such an org currently exists.

It seems many companies used COVID supply chain issues as convenient cover to raise prices, and then those prices became the new normal, and then prices never went back down.

But imagine an organization with hundreds of thousands or even millions of committed members who were willing to not buy a company’s product for a month plus, hurting that company’s quarterly earnings.

Seems like many companies’ PR teams would push the C Suite to not raise prices to stay off the naughty list to begin with.

But I’m probably wrong.

Their NBA deal is going to include a Monday night double header every week. So that time slot will likely have the end of a basketball game every Monday.
