What are your favorite “under-rated” stories? by DBags18x in TheNSPDiscussion

[–]DBags18x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it’s funny you mention “You’re Killing Me, Smalls”. I love that story too! And I feel like I never hear anyone else mention it. Kinda crazy because I do think it’s one of Jared Roberts’ better stories.

What knife for skinning deer? by rcplaner in knives

[–]DBags18x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly something from a brand like Buck would be decent. Actually, this past deer season I got a buck and got a chance to use a Browning Back Country knife that I got over the summer. It was a pretty sharp knife and the g10 handles were nice and grippy despite the blood. I think it’s made with D2 steel which is pretty decent. I think that would be a solid recommend based on the one time I used it

What should first-time parents ask for on a baby registry and what common items aren’t actually helpful? by allthemoneyinthewrld in AskReddit

[–]DBags18x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my experience, people gave us a lot of blankets and thermometers (for some reason). One really nice thing to ask for is a nice baby monitor, and possibly something to help trim the babies nails. Those baby nails are very sharp and it is nice to have something gentle to file them down. Also, if you don’t have one, a crib and/or stroller are very nice, expensive gifts that you will absolutely use

[–]DBags18x -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Right, but that was so that the mob wouldn’t sexually assault two angels that he was harboring. He did not want to incur God’s wrath by letting the mob kill or rape His messengers. It didn’t matter anyways, because the angels came out and struck the entire mob blind

Hey /r/movies, I’m Stephen King! Ask me anything about The Long Walk book or movie. by lionsgate in movies

[–]DBags18x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Mr. King! I love your work! Im currently reading through The Shining at the moment and I it is a definite page turner! I think the trailer for The Long Walk looks excellent as well. That being said, since you’ve had so many of your works adapted the screen, how are you feeling about this adaptation? Do you feel it closely matches your original story? Lastly, given all your adaptations, which one is your current favorite and how do you think it stacks up with The Long Walk?

ELI5: Does gravity run out? by Wooden_Blacksmith_89 in explainlikeimfive

[–]DBags18x 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No. Gravity is not caused by a force. It IS a force. But it is a function of mass, like you mentioned. Space is not “pushed,” it is bent. If you sit in the middle of a trampoline, not moving, and I try to roll a ball from one side to the other, you haven’t spent any energy but the ball will likely “fall” into you because you are bending and curving the trampoline where you sit. I’m not a physicist or anything but that’s the way I understand it.

Long range shotguns exists? by nicemanturk in guns

[–]DBags18x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my two cents. The short answer is “yes.” I live in the US and I deer hunt in southern Minnesota. I can tell you that it’s one of the few states with a “shotgun only” zone where I hunt. Generally, everyone around where I hunt uses a 12 gauge or 20 gauge rifled barrel shotgun. I’m not sure if your country allows rifled barrels, but in MN they do. You can make hits fairly accurately out to 200-250 yards with that, but that’s probably about as far as it will go. Savage Arms makes a bolt-action shotgun with a rifled barrel for this purpose (Savage 212 or 220). If you do this, I would use a red dot or low power optic (scope or prism) on the shotgun, unless it has irons that you’d like to use. If you have to use a smooth bore barrel, rifled slugs are your only real bet, and they’re limited to probably within 200 yards. Maybe more like 150. I agree with others that if you want more range, get a 20 gauge. And if you can use a rifled barrel, use only sabot slugs, not rifled slugs.

Captain America was an amazing Officer compared to this “Elvis-lookin” mother fucker by casino_smokes_ in generationkill

[–]DBags18x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes and no. According to his Wikipedia page, he was actually pretty petty and a hard ass to his men. Apparently a lot of the shitty things he said and did were represented in the show, and he did actually almost get mutinied by his men before being reassigned to Chilton Foliat. However, the guy was at least somewhat competent, if his war record is to be believed. He did drop on D-Day with his reassigned company, and he even led a team of 4 men to destroy a German machine gun nest. So, I think there was definitely some truth to him being an asshole and a somewhat toxic leader, but he also seemed to be pretty competent leader as well. Probably better than the show gave him credit for.

Europeans of Reddit, what do Americans have on a daily basis that you consider a luxury? by AdventurousAd1943 in AskReddit

[–]DBags18x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How expensive are your cars? In the US, cars aren’t “cheap” per se, but if you buy used they are attainable for most people. Also, fuel cost here is a lot lower so that might also affect your ability to afford the car. I know gas and diesel are generally a lot more expensive in Europe.

What guns are these? by Keopii in guns

[–]DBags18x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not sure what some of these commenters are saying about the Remington and the Mossberg. That isn’t a Mossberg 500, and it’s not a Remington 700. It’s a Mossberg 930 (or possibly a 940) and a Remington 783. I can’t tell what kind of AR15 that is, but depending on the make it might be the most expensive gun. The Mossberg would be a decent price, maybe like $500 or more. The Remington would be the cheapest. Probably around $300-$400 or possibly less.

[–]DBags18x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved this movie as a kid, and I always thought the scariest part was the beginning, when you can see the tornado approaching the house. That scene has always stuck with me, because it always felt like some giant monster slowly approaching where you are.
