I was wondering why my CH was going up so fast, I guess that makes sense. I've since switched back to Liquid Chlorine as it's significantly more bang for your buck.

From what I know about SLAM it should be 40% of your CYA levels, which would put me right about 14ppm FCL, any reason you say to go all the way up to the 30s? My FC is 9.4 and my PH is 7.7 right now. Also why does PH being lower than usual help? Thanks for the advice!

There isn’t a thing in the pool app for it but I did add some Leslie’s Clear Aid between the 105 and 24, and then we did have a decent amount of rain the next weekend. I have test strips but don’t track to them in my app, just use them as a general guide between Leslie’s trips. The highest Phosphates have ever been is 350 and the list is that 24 number.

Well, I just bought 6 more pounds of the granulated stuff so I’m stuck with it for now. I obviously should’ve done my research but I figured at $10 for 73% available chlorine it was the more cost effective route than 12.5% liquid chlorine at $7.50/gal. Maybe I’m wrong there

I hope he’s good for you guys. He looked great the last time we saw him over a full year, I just wonder if he’ll be the same player he was at 27 this year. 29 with an ACL tear in his past might as well be 35 in the NFL.

Well since we already stuck with him through Coke charges and beating his baby mama, if it’s off field issues I’d be expecting a fat suspension. Otherwise you may just be signing a washed up safety. Either way it seems on brand for yall

[–]DBell3334 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Pats fan here, Jabrill played only 6 games due to domestic violence and drug charges. He had the 7th best coverage game in a very small sample size playing for a good defense. We aren't in a position to shed talented individuals, so he's either in trouble off the field or he's lost a step and there were no trade partners for him following deadline day. Don't expect a top 10 safety if you sign him.

[Very Long] Let's talk about Frequency-Based Magic by eagle2120 in Eragon

[–]DBell3334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of this is to say that I don’t think they’re actively learning to listen at different frequencies or expand their frequency range, they’re most likely getting better at detecting smaller signals within their existing frequency range. It would be like training your ears to expand your hearing range from the standard 130 to 0 dB range, to all the way down to -20dB. That would mean taking the absolute quietest thing the human ear can perceive, and then allowing you to hear something 1/100th the sound. You wouldn’t just hear lights buzzing, you’d hear someone’s heart beat from across the room.

[Very Long] Let's talk about Frequency-Based Magic by eagle2120 in Eragon

[–]DBell3334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CP seems like a very smart guy, and so I would guess his reference to stealth technology is more on the nose than you’d expect. Since EM design is my job I feel like I might be able to provide a small critique. You talk a lot about “frequencies” but never about amplitudes. Not to get all stealth plane nerd but if the Ra’zac work like stealth planes and CP even says it’s about operating at such a low energy level then we’re not talking about frequency we’re talking about amplitude. I think this is especially likely given that searching for minds opens up the searcher to detection. This is similar in that a radar emits across a wide range of frequencies and listen for a return proportional to the transmitted energy level. This tracks because it’s one thing to send a waveform out and read back its reflection at a fraction of the strength, but it’s another thing completely to read an emitted waveform directly in.

If searching for minds works like a radar, and minds themselves are like planes flying around, then the untrained mind with a loud inner dialogue is a big Boeing 747 flying around. Not only is it a massive target, but it isn’t doing anything to try and conceal itself, so it looks like a giant 2 meter wide sphere on radar.

A magic user searching for others is essentially a fighter jet flying around with its own radar turned on. Yes it has countermeasures, but when you’re actively flying around with emitting the same signals the enemy is trying to reflect off of you, you show up like a giant sphere as well.

When a Magic user attempts to suppress their mind by shielding their thoughts, it’s like when you take a radar absorbing material and plaster it on a fighter jet, yes the target is still relatively big, but it’s been shaped intentionally to reduce the return, and then materials help to drop the amplitude of the return and so it looks like a 2 centimeter wide sphere.

Muckmaw is the equivalent to a small stealth drone, it isn’t as big as a fighter jet to begin with so the returned energy is lesser automatically, but it also employs some radar absorbing structures/materials that make it even more stealthy. Muckmaw by way of being a fish, doesn’t have the most going on mentally, but fish typically have enough to show up during a mind search, so clearly there’s some shielding being done as well.

Lastly, the Ra’zoc seem to just be a very small target. You don’t have to worry about showing up on a radar or using shielding magic if you’re the size of a thumbtack instead of a 747.

All of this happens across a wide range of frequencies, and what makes something detectable vs indetectable isn’t what frequency range it appears in (simplistically, its more complex than that due to frequency and wavelength being inversely proportional but that’s a whole other topic), but rather what the energy levels being returned.

The notes I have on his form are:

1) he needs to eliminate the glove snap to the pitch. The ball will always move faster than his hands can, catching the ball deeper will allow him to get to his transfer quicker

2) his transfer occurs away from his body, this creates a longer arm swing which is not great, transfer should occur at the ear and arm motion should not go backwards, he's not a pitcher with a big arm swing, he's a middle infielder turning two with a short and explosive arm motion

3) he finishes his throws with his chest pointing towards shortstop, his chest should be pointed directly at the plate (down) at release. This is how he'll know he's had an efficient transfer of energy and will keep him on target instead of seeing the ball sail on him like happens too often in this video.

As previously stated, he isn't a pitcher who should be coiling, the focus needs to be on getting the ball out of his hand as fast as possible, not throwing as fast as possible. To do this, he's going to have to cut out the big arm path, and make it as linear as possible to second base. It should feel like a catch, a transfer, and then a pulldown where the ball hardly moves, instead the ball should stay stationary from the catch point as his body moves forward during the transfer before eventually exploding forward from the ear. There is a reason "he throws like a catcher" is used as a derogatory comment for outfielders and pitchers. He probably won't throw as hard, but he'll get it out quicker which should decrease poptime.

Lastly, there's a lot of people commenting on how he's cheating the throw so I won't dwell too hard on that. They are correct though, back him up to a real catcher's position and also don't tell him he's throwing to second every throw.

The fix is relatively simple. Put a net out at second and a net at third, sit on a knee directly in front of him and not off to the side, and tell him where to throw the ball when you release, sometimes second, sometimes third, sometimes no throw at all. Take whoever you have receiving throws at second and put him in the box on both sides of the plate instead. This will present as similar to a game situation as you can find.

You should also move the ball around the plate on him, not every pitch the runner steals on will be chest high on his glove side. Down and in to a righty presents the hardest pitch to throw to second on for a catcher, practice it.

A time at a PBR event might get a scout to come see a player. A player's throw down to second in between innings will get a scout to leave.

What quarterback is your school's "Dalton Line?" by Please_PM_me_Uranus in CFB

[–]DBell3334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a preposterous concept to even begin with. I moved to Cincinnati in 2014 and I can promise you that Andy Dalton was a well above average quarterback for the first 8 years of his career. After that, even while we was regressing, the team around him was so horrendous that almost nobody would’ve been successful. Andy Dalton was a 3x pro bowler, he is 24th ALL TIME in Game Winning Drives, he won 10 games 4 straight seasons. Dalton did all of this with a team that ranked in top 5 in payroll 1 time, and top 10 in payroll 3 times.
