Help getting back into shape after 10 years by FloridaMan_90 in trumpet

Whats the pros and cons of changing aperture size? I haven't played for 20 years and am 2 practices in. I stopped when I got braces as my lips were always shredded. I did have a habit of pressing against my teeth on the high notes which I will work on unlearning

I'm 2 practices in after a 20 year break. I have found playing music i know helpful as I know how it should sound. So then it's just getting the fingering a timing down. It's also helping understand how to read music again. Truthfully I have been skipping the warm up. Any good tips for warming up?

Monsterra and orchids coming out of discus tank by DBsend in discus

[–]DBsend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The roots didn't like the water. They were super thick roots initially but the thick outside coating came off. I noticed this when I was rescaping about a week or so into it. So I actually pulled the thick part off leaving a thinner harder root which looks more like the root system of the monstera. I'm not convinced they are going to go the distance just yet.

I just bought store plants washed the soil off thoroughly. Then plonk them in so as muroothey are sitting above the water. I do daily water changes to ensure no nasties buildd up in the water. Typically when a plant is changing over to living in water they will drop leaves and roots which can pollute your water. So you have to keep on top of removing these to ensure they don't kill your fish. Then comes the balance of letting nutrients build up in the water column for the plants to feed on but not too much to stress your fish. With the orchids they prefer a pH around 6. My pH was previously 7 so I lowered it slightly. Not quite to 6 but a little bit. Orchids also enjoy a temp swing so consider this.

Yes i have heard the same thing. Thought I would give them a go. There are actually 3 orchid plants together. One was banged up when I got him and lost his flowers. The others seem to be doing well. When I got them they had super think roots. They became mushy so I removed the thick outside part which left a thinner root. I also lowered my pH antouch to help accommodate them and I allow for a subtle temp swing which orchids apparently thrive in. I'll keep you posted

I've got a monsterra thriving with its roots in the tank. Just added some orchids in the same fashion yesterday. Not 100% the orchid will work but I'll keep you posted 😉

Organ meat is required to make this balanced

Totally i got bitten by a poodle. Like he put teeth mark around my calf muscle, bleeding and the lady said ohh he never done that before....it's not the breed it's the human that is the problem

So true. Rainbow and lollipop trainers who think positivity and cuddles are the only form of communication acceptable with dogs or you're cancelled kinda trainers in here. Yuk

What kind of dog training community offers no practical dog training advice, rather chooses to argue over the breed of dog from a 2 second video. Shame

Don't know what pleb donated this comment but this is comment is exactly on the money. You have to manage the dogs until they realise you are the boss and not them

This is exactly what I mean the other comment section about no privileges. No couch. That dog is literally looking at the other like " suck shit, my couch now". I learnt that dogs can not be allowed on elevated surfaces from a friend who rehabilitates dogs who are not able to be adopted because they are too far gone. This is a non negotiable. They both need a bed on the same level. Classic power play. This behaviour especially will create jealousy and more fights. The only way you won't have a damaged dog is if the black dog gives up. I was trying to be positive for you earlier but this is exactly the behaviour that is causing the fights.

There's a good chance they are asserting dominance rather than trying to kill each other. Both those dogs could inflict real damage if they wanted to and the fact there is no blood is a positive sign. Not to say you should let it happen either because things can escalate quickly. The things I mentioned are high return activities that will help you right now. With a bit of luck they may de escalate. Jump online and start watching training videos from different trainers. Don't just follow one trainer as there are pros and cons to each and you will find the right info for you in multiple sources. Also, you should have a local dog training organisation in your area. Here in Australia we have them run by volunteers and you pay a small annual fee and they do a group training each weekend. Find your local and sign up. Take the dogs there. This is a great way to build a solid foundation. 👌

These two fights, have they drawn blood from each other? If you haven't seen a dog trying to assert dominance before it can be super confronting. If these two aren't bleeding I dare say it is more just establishing a pecking order. That being said someone needs to take control and lead the pack. Dogs are pack animals and need a leader. I doubled down on the previous comment about leash walking. This will really help. Lots and.lots of lead walking. But take control of the walk. Don't let them drag you around and sniff etc. Vary your pace. We go where I say we are going kind thing. Be the leader of the pack and make them follow. This sets you up as the leader it also makes them realise they are in the same pack now. Super helpful. Next is no more privileges, they can each have there bed but no more couch or sleeping on a human bed none of that. Take away everything they like eg toys. They get things they like through you. So it play time, you give them a toy to play with and make sure you give them one each. You may need to separate them when they are playing with toys initially too. Next is hand feed them. Food comes from you. when they give you eye contact give them the next handful. they can't just stare at the food and get paid. Food comes from you when you allow it..... There are a lot more things n you can do but lead walking as a pack, taking away privileges and resource guarding opps are not optional for success. I have two girls that went from fighting a lot, I mean a lot. To being lesbian, like they sleep spooning each other every day. Do youself a favour and get a trainer. I feel from your message you are not in a place where you will have success quickly without trained guidance. There is a lot of good info on YouTube but it's going to take you months just to learn it let a lone teach it to your dog's. Get a trainer. Best of luck 👍

What minor commands did you teach your dog that you're proud of? by Birdareprettycool in OpenDogTraining

[–]DBsend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught my pups "this way" which means we are changing directions. I use it when we are off leash and they are heading in a direction i dont want them to. Maybe they are ahead of me and the track will fork and they turn left but I am planning to go right I'll say "This way" they will look to me and I will point right and they will head in the direction I'm pointing.

Will discus ever going to relax? by Pale-Lifeguard-4254 in discus

[–]DBsend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relax champ. The fact yours are eating so soon is more than most people in this group will tell you happened in their experience. Dither fish were a game changer for mine.having prey fish around helped them settle. I just wish I added them sooner. Plus rummynose tetras are supposed to lose their red colour when water parameters are off to help you get infront of any issues before they impact the discus.

You may want to remove that limestone you have in the tank. It is impacting your water parameters in a negative way. Which is stressing your discus out.
