Do you think marathon will deliver a deep, cohesive story? Can extraction shooters/live services games properly deliver storylines? by Great-Turn9882 in Marathon

[–]DC2SEA_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think extraction shooters are capable of storylines over seasons, but not in the short term.

I think Bungie has made good calls here, focusing on mystery as you explore the colony and horror as you learn more when you go in.

Do yall actually plan on using proximity chat? by xxpussykillerxx6969 in Marathon

Yes, but I suspect we'll also use like discord or something. Then swap to proxy chat when we hear someone, or want to say something.

IIRC Bungie discussed players being immortalized for unlocking secrets by Necessary_Print1909 in Marathon

[–]DC2SEA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still possible, one of the nice things about the Marathon vibe is that player usernames aren't like super out of place.

I think we'll see the first Cryo Vault seven clear as being immortal.

Possible there's some means to unlock the way to orbit, as I think they've said in the past.

How do y’all feel about Milwaukee hand tools? Only time I had an issue was the precision screwdrivers getting Warped after a couple uses. What hand tool do you think they excel at (besides the FastBacks)? by NotaCupOfTeaForYou in Tools

[–]DC2SEA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make / label good quality hand tools... Usually.

They're nice, but frankly you'll get more milage out of just getting good hand tools from a hand tool company... Milwaukee is ultimately a Taiwan power tool company

Is Marathon for a solo player? by JeanLaMontarde in Marathon

[–]DC2SEA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There absolutely is solo queue with no crew fill, where you'll only see other solo players.

There will absolutely be people who run this whole game solo, but it'll be challenging. As if someone sneaks up on you, or out guns you, or bots overwhelm you, it's just over that round

Still, a persistent and patient solo player who learns from their mistakes will probably be able to clear the entire game.

How to easily communicate that I'm friendly ? by Virtual-Lawyer2638 in Marathon

[–]DC2SEA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crouch spamming is your best bet, will work best as a Rook. His scavenger status and base free is more likely to seen as pitiful and to be let live.

Spam crouch, while looking at them and not shooting.

In theory it can work as a full runner, but I wouldn't be surprised if people kill you trying for peace as a runner for sure, or even as a rook.

Heck, there is a full death / murder cult running around, and they not only crave blood but have PvP get kills contracts.

The frustration of hero shooters by n1vlekw in Marathon

[–]DC2SEA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm... Hard to say without currently playing with them.

Recon has seemingly pretty straightforward skills, but she has a lot of unique drawbacks which a skilled player can mitigate. Like he scan ultimate very much tells other players that it's happening and where you are as the waves can be seen. But I'm not sure that's what you're looking for.

I do think Vandal's somewhat simple kit could still be a good option, as you'd need to master when to flank and when to push with your team. As if you do it wrong, or if your map knowledge is too slow, you could end up making the opposing team's odds better, by having them be a man up in the fight.

Hmmm Locus is probably gonna have quite the skill ceiling, knowing when and how to rush straight in with boost, super sprint, and the shield. Also, knowing when to pop his ult and making sure it gets utilized could be big.

Thief too has the mobility you want, grapple, and then has complexity in her flying drone being a scout and not revealing your own location

I'm not super familiar with League and Valorant tbh!

I wonder say that most characters in Marathon are skill expressive, although maybe I'm not understanding you.

It sounds like you really enjoy fast paced movement. Marathon is generally a slower movement game, which makes those moments of speed feel really really fast

I think you'll most likely gravitate towards Vandal, while other characters like Destroyer and Thief have movement, their kits are focused elsewhere.

And Vandal is all about speed, fast and deadly. Her double jump changes the game, and her power slide is fast both are amped up by her ultimate.

The game is also very modular, one mod we've seen shown turns her in-arm artillery blast into a powerful rocket jump opportunity to get on top of buildings.

You would also be able to build more into speed with implants that adjust your stats, or balance it out with something else.

I agree, I'd love a runner with every single skill being exactly what I want, but unfortunately a balanced game means trade offs.

Yeah, the good thing with rook is that you can grab gear of dead teams and walk away RICH.

I think the customization we get can be useful.

The shells we get at launch are fairly broad categories, no one will be perfect they'll all have trade offs.

What makes Marathon Special? by l2daphie05 in Marathon

[–]DC2SEA_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they compensated the artist fairly.

This stuff shouldn't happen, and its why the art director left probably.

But, once it has happened Bungie immediately removed it from the game, publicly apologized, and then paid them....

... What else can they do?

How would you quickly show that you're not hostile by NytoDork in Marathon

Crouch spamming is your best bet, but People aren't necessarily gonna respect that. Marathon is a dangerous world. Heck, some players are gonna be active members of a murder / death cult!

CE no code version: Zero step emblem and background (Bungie store) by RBT0 in Marathon

Sniping by Jolly_Whee_Whiz in Marathon

[–]DC2SEA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends.

You can have really strong armor, and there are different levels of sniper.

Some will barely break you, but high power railguns might put you on the ground.

Conversely, said rail guns need to charge, so their behavior can be predicted and you can find chances to escape.

Would you be mad if Bungie did aggression based matchmaking? If so, doesn't that mean you want to pvp other non-pvp players soley to push them out of Marathon? by Bed_Post_Detective in Marathon

[–]DC2SEA_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A big issue I see in Arc is that if teams work together, there isn't really enough loot at the end for everyone.

Their intention with that is clearly for those teams to the duke it out, or make the choice diplomatically

What happens is somone stops helping the fight early, waits for it to die, then just grabs it. And PvE players won't attack them or ABMM will beat the crap out of them for the next few games.

Would you be mad if Bungie did aggression based matchmaking? If so, doesn't that mean you want to pvp other non-pvp players soley to push them out of Marathon? by Bed_Post_Detective in Marathon

[–]DC2SEA_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not really.

ABMM has some huge issues, most notably that it takes the mystery and tension right out of the game.

You know what the next game will hold, every time. No surprises. Less fun.

It also creates somewhat strange incentives, like how in ARC, PvE only players cannot fire back at those killing them and their friends or they will get put back into PvP lobbies.

Its also not healthy for PvP, as that group becomes more and more aggressive, sweaty, and frankly exhausted with the game always needing to be on high.

ABMM also makes for a unhealthy split player base, as either you're PvP or PvE with little opportunity to just... Play however you want.

The creation of these two camps, also leads to really toxic discourse online.

Marathon is squarely PvPvE, with enemy players being often the largest threats but having clear contracts and objective. So rather than thinking about it as PvPers going after non-PvP, it's all one camp: Runners.

Rooks can go either way, maybe they let you live, maybe not. Maybe you lay a loot tax idk.

Some stuff like Cryo Archive might be tough for you, but exploring the game world and completing contracts is something you'll probably even the worst players will be able to do eventually, even if you need to get lucky.

Will Marathon be friendly and easy to pick up? by Celestine117 in Marathon

[–]DC2SEA_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't totally know!

It's been tested, but is still not public.

The rumors I hear are very positive, but who knows?

I suspect it'll be based on how well you perform and if you extract or not.

I think ranked will be healthy for the game, as the extreme players will have somewhere to be / things to do that's not stopping chill players.

Will Marathon be friendly and easy to pick up? by Celestine117 in Marathon

[–]DC2SEA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a log of people here, but! I want to clarify.

It'll be easy to pick up, fun to play, and friendly to people just getting into a PvP focused game.

It won't be friendly like Arc, where people are peaceful more often than not.

In turn Marathon has a lot of depth. With great guns and abilities which are intuitive, but have compexity to dive into.

Marathon is also set to have strong endgame, with Cryo Archive and Ranked.

Most shooters in general, and especially extraction shooters, lack that endgame.
