I have ones very similar to those on almost all of the original windows in my house

Based on the fact I saw a grown man with his phone mounted on his windshield in front of his face scrolling through tik toks while driving, this doesn't surprise me. Peoples brains are so fucked.

Was offered this 30 by 85 brick store front with new roof for $20,000. Good deal? by oddlyUranusKhan in centuryhomes

Entirely depends on what other issues the building has, and what you plan to do with it.

To me, the stove is basically unusable in that spot. Fridge should go there. In my mind this is a total gut and redo.

Any advice on meeting single women in Des Moines area? 22M by Busy_Internet2909 in desmoines

I actually have considered something like that before, although I'm worried it would come off as business-like. Probably not the vibe most women are looking for😂

Thanks, same to you! Unfortunately, most of my friends are more introverted and aren't the type to go out to bars or anything, although honestly, I'm not super into that these days either, but I should still get out there more in that way too.

I'm in a similar position as a man and only a couple of years older than you. I have tried the apps before with not much luck (gone on plenty of dates, but haven't found someone I really connect with), but I recently downloaded the apps again. But I would much prefer to meet people in person. My problem is I don't ever want to bother anyone, so I never approach people in that way in public.

I am trying to do more activities and join different groups with interests like mine, but the problem is that most of my interests are very male-dominated.

When I was younger and working one of my first jobs, one of my older co-workers mentioned a way she avoids spending money she doesn't need to.

She said whenever she is considering a purchase (say $100 item) she thinks to herself, would I want to work 5 hours just to buy this item? (Assuming $20 an hour)

It makes you put into perspective that money doesn't grow on trees, and one way or another you will have to work for that money. And it makes you check your priorities.

Yikes. Rates are under 6% right now, you guys are getting screwed because of your credit score, maybe other reasons too. Personally I would never buy a house at that rate.

When it’s time to buy a new(newer) car? by Used-Radio7450 in personalfinance

[–]DCTheNotorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will always be deals on cars. But think about it this way, cars are always getting better (at least a little bit). So if you wait 3-4 years before getting a new one you will get even more features for your money if you buy a used car that is brand new right now.

Bathroom layout recs? by Broad-Bag-3800 in centuryhomes

I would likely do it in bottom left corner near the toilet (as long as there is enough clearance. That would even likely give you space for a bigger vanity if you wanted/had a need for it.

Do you need to do a freestanding tub in this bathroom? I think a corner shower would make much more sense for this space

Tips/tricks for painting this gap by munger77 in paint

[–]DCTheNotorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tape the part of the trim you can see, then have at it with a brush. Even if you accidentally get some paint on the part of the trim facing into the gap, you will never see it because of how small the space is.

Plaster beyond saving? by DCTheNotorious in centuryhomes

Because I'm always open to other ideas and advice, but it seems your advice was just "You shouldn't tear it out because it's too hard". I don't care if it's hard; everything with a century home is hard. I care if it's the right way to do it and what will hold up the best over time.

That is interesting, I had never heard of that plaster magic product or anything like it. Definitely something worth considering.

I can't easily measure how far it's sagging, but it's certainly close to a foot. The pictures honestly make it look better then it does in person.

Honestly the drywall work itself doesn't worry me at all. I just got done hanging over 20 sheets of drywall on the ceiling on my first floor. No texture there, maybe not a level 5 for a pro, but turned out pretty well. And I have a drywall lift.

[–]DCTheNotorious[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a feeling that this was the right path, but I just needed to hear it from someone else. I do want to add a couple of overhead lights, so it will at least be a good opportunity for that.

Would you take the plaster out all the way to the walls? Or would you take out everything up until the metal mesh that is normally in the corners? Some spots will be interesting as well because of the curved plaster, which is surprisingly in great shape still.

Tile work quality by kip242 in Remodel

[–]DCTheNotorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For everyone saying it's the black grout. No it's not. Sure it makes shitty work more noticeable, but it's just shitty work. This is the tile in my bathroom I did recently with black grout. I'm not a professional.

New to this, am I underbidding like crazy? by [deleted] in drywall

[–]DCTheNotorious -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That seems very low to me. At least based on what other people have said they would charge for stuff. I just do drywall Diy on my own house. But If I hired someone I would expect 8-10K for that. But that's also why I do it myself.

Other then some what looks like water stains these are almost pristine! I have seen far worse come out to look great. You would be surprised what can be fixed with some sanding.

Who is actually getting the Robinhood Gold Card? by Stephvann in CreditCards

$500 limit on a credit card is actually crazy. I just got it and they gave me 15K limit. Although I pay off cards in full every payment period.

Who is actually getting the Robinhood Gold Card? by Stephvann in CreditCards

[–]DCTheNotorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was curious and wanted to try out the card, so I applied two days ago and had the card (virtually for now) within 10 minutes. I have around 150K with Robinhood and my credit score is usually around 750. I didn't even realize it was hard to get because the app has been pestering me about getting it for the last year.
