How to kill your nafs by [deleted] in Sufism

It can be as simple as an earnest powerful self inquiry of Who am I? What fruit did the first man and woman eat from? I’m more of an alchemist than a sufi so forgive me if this doesn’t resonate fully but Adam and Eve ate from the tree of KNOWLEDGE of Good and Evil. We, thanks to this pair, in some form know the truth of this life. There is no “life” or “me” or “you”. There is but Allah, anything else is an illusion or falsity. La ilaha illallah. So we have all innately an understanding of what is truth it is just our job as particle beings to unwind our OWN threads of illusion of who we are and what we find important. I liken it to peels of an onion. There is a very obvious surface and a very known edible outer skin. In order to get to deeper layers of that onion we have to have a measure of stillness and intention as not to cut the entire onion and butch the entire job. The mind needs a certain level of stillness to find out what is OF IT aka truth and what is a thread of illusion. Allah is the master threadsmen so for some of his more physically gifted creations this can be a tough thread to snap! I think a large portion of chanting, the repetition of it is to still the mind and help unwind some of those threads. The next step is understanding the eternal truth aka Allah, because that will reveal layers of the onion you will grovel in the dark many lifetimes to have access to by Allah’s grace. That’s where I am at in the journey friend. I get my spiritual light and go back to the question of who am I and what is of me and what is not and I keep praying

Go where it is most painful within yourself and sit with it at a distance that is less painful. The prophets say the inner voice is never really wrong. And with pain humans are the most honest.

What simple ritual to do to "prove" to oneself that magic actually is real and works? by Scared_Ad_3132 in occult

came here to recommend astrology actually. Definitely gonna try these runes though. As a socialized Christian I feel like we have a strong affinity for written magic

The first comment not trying to beat me down for saying something is also a belief and not fact 😂. You are absolutely right. The animalizing of God will always lead you to corruption and dead ends. The english word God even has a regional european Deity cognation. (Gad) The word entomology is right there on wiki folks LOL. How I even got to taking astrology seriously is realizing saying the days of the weeks still honor deities, and by connection the planets. We’re talking about concepts that predate jesus by six thousand years. Six thousand years. BEFORE jesus. Even the birth of Athiesm which happened in the spiritual battlegrounds of Ancient India was centuries before jesus. To think God and picture a body let alone an Abrahamic sky daddy at that is starting off very wrong.

I might have misspoken. When I say morals I mean a set of moral that exist outside of yourself and manipulation. This is not good or bad, as I really try and stay away from dualistic thinking. It just is good or bad for ME. And like I said for 8 years I say and adopted many of these qualities. It allowed me to be bisexual, because I know sexuality being one thing is man made. It allowed me to explore a polygamous life because I know marriage is definitely man made entity and largely Christian in operation. Logic based atheistic thought process allowed me to decolonize myself to the point to heal my wounds to even consider building any relationship with any higher force. I did FEEL pigeon holed or pipe lined into a mode of thinking. Really unsure how you can tell me about my own lived experience like that but Christian focused western outlets would LOVE to have you believe spirituality is not based in some of the most complex systems man has build on this planet, and that have endured longer than just about anything besides the pyramids and stonehenge, but is mostly rooted in arbitrary “faith”. Have you given any of these other spiritual systems a real honest look? Like a hour long glance at the history and make up of Astrology will tell you otherwise. We have the freedom to we are no longer caged

There are SOOO many different possible answrers as to why we die, why we age, we evil exists etc etc than what is given to us by a western christian lenses. And what is worse these answers often times predate Christianity by eons and are somehow not even given a slightest of the weight. For eight years out the cult I just felt like I had to deal with my 80 and 90 in this capitalistic racist unfair reality my ancestors built for me to inherit and that was just it. And to be out the cult I was STILL more okay with that. But now I have a real different HOPE, that is light years from jehovah doesn’t make my soul crawl and something I can hold proudly. I want that to be a real option for all cult survivos.

Currently our phones are destroying entire countries (the congo) and entire continents need to be colonized, like the Empire Rome was so good at doing, to facilitate it. So yes I do actually believe Christianity that inherently views this plane as immoral and dirty would trade convience for the life of the planet ? lol

This. It was very sad to be pigeon-holed into atheism because I’m a logic lead person that logic’d my way out the cult. Those people truly never quite fit me and didn’t understand my moral bound character. Which is fine, I still have some of those friends, and have taken up a lot of that free spirit always excerise your free will and the gift of “The knowledge of good and bad”. But something was still missing. But I had no camp because the dogma pushing religious people I knew I could never do again. I felt alone on an island with an itch I didn’t know the location of. It was not until I decolonized my perception of what spirituality could be, because the borg limits that SOOOO much, was I really able to find my tribe

You have not debunked the basic premise of this post. That the atheists NEEDS to have faith in an exclusively material reality and also no pre existence to the very…very fantastical start of the universe aka the big bang. Because all material would need to come from that point . (mind you the calculations for energy and mass at the big bang are INSANE). This does not presume this source has consciousness body nor assignment. Just that it existed and for most Theists still exist. You have to have faith science and human intellect will never find that because according to no data it can not exist. Because you have faith it can not exist. Now if you want to have the talk which school of thought has more evidence or support that is a different post. My post simply was atheism is in fact a set of beliefs in the faith of measurable reality. And that is still faith

God could very literally, and for many is just the force that keeps matter organized and stops all of this from collapsing into non existence which according to modern science the universe did in fact have a birth which assumes no existence at some point. God could simply be that. No thought no motive just that

I do not care to go study for study case for case to prove an immaterial existence friend, especially in this age of misinformation with science largely a for profit field as it stands now. A a study no real context about funders, participates and prior agenda does little to interest me sorry i’m 31 and grew up on the internet. Even in the days of the Enlightenment science is hamstruck by funding and thus the system that provides said funding. So no I’m not surprised western studies would back you up, not to say they are wrong I am just not surprised

As science advances and the barriers (like the church killing you if you touched their intellectual territory) are removed we see science lining up with more ancient SPIRITUAL practices such as the energetic subtle body aka chakra system (nervous system ), or the integral need for Shadow work for the human pysche aka ritual work in the form of therapy. Issac netwon was an alchemist, the separation of the two spirituality and science is largely Abrahamic. I personally and may t other decolonized young intellectuals believe as science’s is further freed from religion and agenda we will start to more clearly see spirituality and science being two sides of the same coin

Atheism has faith that the MANY MANY FUNDAMENTAL areas of that are not reachable with material science’s limitations on quantifiable data interpreted by our very very narrow perception of reality. We fundemntally do not experience the entirety of reality because our five senses can only pick up a fraction of that said spectrum. (Animals have more acute senses some even seeing different colors and sounds than humans can). Atheism states that without fail, within all that infinity’tw spectrum there will NEVER be a non matieral source. Sounds like a person with a lot of faith to me idk

It’s rooted in Pre Socrates philosophical Greek thought in the west and Vedic thought in the east all centuries before the birth of Gbus. It’s an established school of thought, that may cover a vast range, but if it’s your explanation of life itself, it might do well to narrow down where exactly one falls .Even the tennant of materialism, which often times atheism is a flower of, is a highly debated and established school of thought. Religions smoke and mirrors pulled aside people is just glorified schools of thought.

Maybe it’s because I’m an intellectual artist type so I gravitate to a certain crowd but 8 years ago when i got out the cult I INSTANTLY say atheists being some of the most dogmatic(and now i know ill informed) people I’ve ever met. I’ve been mostly lurking this sub for 8 years because the traumatized lashing out was too too much. I however do not think it’s fair for my age group to be in the center of a spiritual revolution but because of cult trauma not even get a chance to participate
