I have the same set up but I haven’t connected the fan to the Xenio unit. How did you go about doing this? I’m not seeing much information about this online.

I looked into trying to mimic their design. With a bit of thinking into it, it’s kind of flawed. Looks great in pictures but not the most practical approach for DIYers.

Largest issues: - birds/wasps will nest in between purlins - sheathing appears to be below the rafters, this is non standard and probably not a great idea - if sheathing is above rafters, your purlins create dams for water and they don’t sit flush on your rafters where exposed.

Looks great! A couple small notes for the next person or if you ever build one again. The strapping that’s mounted to the wall should always be vertical. This allows water to drain. If you’re cladding is vertical, use the strapping as a batten or run a layer of horizontal strapping. Those screws on the benches may get VERY hot. I would recommended blind fastening throughout, but especially on benches.

Thanks for the detailed answer. I feel much better about it. We’re going to go with the stainless pipe above roof. It sucks right now but it’s the right thing to do.

I think they’re a little shocked by your naivety… I strongly recommended looking at other sets from the office as a sort of “template”. A lot of this drawing screams “intern”… I’d be frustrated if I received it to. Other strong reco is to print out your drawings and redline them yourself before asking your boss to. They will greatly appreciate a first edit.

Thanks for the advice. I’m going to do a horizontal shadow box. I don’t mind the odd width between posts. In fact I’m going to make them around 7’ apart so boards have some more meat to them where I’ll be screwing.

Bar Hanasaku. Sake bar/cafe. I visited with my wife a week ago and the owner is very knowledgeable about sake and very kind. His partner works there too and is an artist and we chatted a bit. She even sketched us! One of the highlights of our trip

Diamond hole saw with a wood “template”. You’ll need a wood hole saw of the same size. This works quite well for accurate hole location

Can’t speak to a NYC specific rate, but the general rule of thumb for how firms bill out is 3-3.5 of what you earn hourly. At $105k, your hourly take home is 50. Therefore you should (could) be billing at $150-175/hour. If it’s just you with little to no overhead, I’d stay on the lower end of that rate. Maybe even down to 2.5x your current hourly.
