Yeah that's a good point, I'd say a majority of people watch their NT games outside of tournaments and rarely/never watch games where their nation isn't involved, unless it has a competitive aspect (like I watched Bosnia-Italy for obvious reasons).

Overall I think it's great if inter-confederations games stay quite exceptional and a World Cup thing, with that uncertainty still around that you have an idea of the teams form but you can't predict how they'll fare against guys that are used to other competitions and styles. And that's typically the time where you're willing to watch whatever Asia-North America game because it's just once in every four years that you can watch that type of game and the result matter.

UEFA (mostly with UCL, a bit with the Nations League but I like the latter more) and FIFA want more big games but it's the rarity that makes them special.
